It’s hard to believe that only a few weeks ago we were basking in glorious sunshine, stuffing our faces with ice cream and desperately searching for fans in an attempt to get some sleep at night! Now the evenings are drawing in and the weather is turning cooler, it can only mean one thing… autumn is swiftly on its way, so it’s time to sort out your wardrobe.
As much as we love the bright colours and floaty fabrics of summer, there’s nothing better than prepping for the new season; slipping on soft, slouchy knits, getting back into comfy boots and picking out a new coat. So, if you need a little inspiration… here are our must-have pieces for autumn.
While we’re not quite ready for a full-on winter coat just yet, these two designs are perfect for this time of year. A leather biker jacket is a classic piece that we should all have in our wardrobes and this metallic faux leather one from Rino & Pelle is so on trend and great for throwing on with jeans or over a dress for a night out.
With the British weather being so unpredictable, a waterproof jacket is always a good option. We love this Joules design with its traditional fisherman style, striped lining and bright colours. It’s a wardrobe staple that’ll never go out of style.
Bye bye bare legs
A pair of skinny jeans are an essential for any time of year. These Joules Monroe jeans feature classic detailing and a comfy stretch fit. They’re great for wearing with T-shirts and trainers for daytime or dressing up with heels and a nice top for the evening.
If the skinny look isn’t for you, these gorgeous wide leg trousers from Phase Eight are so smart and stylish and the eyelet detail really adds the perfect finishing touch. Team them with a classic striped top or plain white blouse for work or play.
Jumpsuits are so popular right now and they’re incredibly versatile too. Easy to wear in the summer with sandals, they’re just as great in cooler weather with flats or heeled ankle boots and a leather jacket. This Phase Eight design has a pretty floral print, bringing a little bit of the summer back for when autumn really kicks in!
Dress it up
A gorgeous printed dress is an autumn wardrobe essential in our book, and these two picks won’t disappoint. This Phase Eight mixed print design is so chic and vibrant with its asymmetric hemline and contrasting floral prints. You can easily wear it with heels and shimmering jewellery to a wedding or special occasion.
The Onjenu Sydney dress is fabulous too. We love the flattering ruched detailing at the waist and pretty tulip-shaped skirt. It’s got ¾ length sleeves too, making it great for cooler weather.
Top of our list
A classic striped top is so versatile – and it doesn’t look like stripes are going out of fashion anytime soon! This Denim & Co. design has long sleeves and will look great worn loose over jeans or tucked into some wide leg trousers or a skirt.
If you’re looking for something striking then this Together top will get you noticed. With its abstract brush-stroke print, embellishments and overlay design, it’s perfect for a night out, teamed with faux leather trousers or skinny jeans.
After a summer of wearing as little as possible (just to keep cool of course!), there’s something quite comforting about getting back in to cosy knits in autumn. This Isaac Mizrahi Live tunic jumper has chic finishes touches that we love, making it so much more fashionable than a plain old jumper. The sleeves and V-neckline give it added style.
This relaxed fit coatigan from Centigrade is so snuggly and will take you into winter with ease. It has a lovely patchwork design with a hood and large patch pockets for when your hands get too cold. Brrrr! You’ll be ready to take on the chilly weather in style.
Step into the new season
We can’t get enough of an ankle boot at the moment, whether it’s with bare legs or tights. These Chelsea boots from Joules are sleek, smooth and gorgeous. They’re such a classic style that’ll last you for years to come thanks to their smart, durable leather finish.
But if you’re after something sporty, then these Vionic high-tops are very cool. Perfect for wearing if you’re running around after the kids or just for off-duty weekend looks, they’ll go with anything too.
