Butler and Wilson birthday cakeFirstly, a big thank you to all of you who entered the competition to win the bejewelled Butler & Wilson jewellery box. It was an overwhelming number of entries, which goes to show just how much you love Simon and his fabulous jewellery. No wonder the brand has been around for 45 years as marked by this stunning cake made by Jo who runs our prep kitchen at QVC.

She cleverly copied Simon's mum's brooch for the topper, and I can confirm that I saw Simon eating a piece of it! I took my piece home to share with my daughter Sophie. Also indulging in a piece was our model Ali.

Ali and IsaacShe returned to do the Saturday night show with us looking amazing after giving birth to her second baby, Isaac, just five weeks ago. I think it really made Simon's 19th anniversary with us special and I hope you enjoyed all the shows ( and the easy-pays) too. I will announce the winner of the competition later in my blog.

Due to the number of posts I'm afraid I won't be doing replies this week but I have read every one. If there is a specific question or comment that needs an answer perhaps you would be kind enough to post it on this week's blog.

Honora bracelet in Crystal Palace coloursSo, hot on the heels of the Butler & Wilson shows, I also had the pleasure of working with Ralph Rossini from Honora. I haven't worked with him for ages so imagine my surprise, and pleasure, when he presented me with these bracelets in my team's colours. I was really touched that he had remembered both my team, Crystal Palace, and the colour of their strip!

Talking of Palace, it's a bit of a blow to lose your manager just 36 hours before the start of the new Premier League season, especially when your first game is away to Arsenal!! I have no idea what is behind it, apparently he took training as normal yesterday, but in some ways it is better that the split has come now rather than when we are in a relegation battle. I remember writing on here last time we were looking for a manager that Malkie McKay might do a good job for us … maybe we will get him this time round!

On my blog last week I mentioned that I have finished writing my first novel. This week has been spent going through it with a fine tooth comb, checking that the story makes sense, before it goes to the copy editor on Wednesday. I am using the same lady who did 'One Hundred Lengths of the Pool' as I liked the light touch she gave it. We tracked her down via Linked In and she asked to see the synopsis and the first three chapters before she agreed to take it on.

I waited nervously for her feedback, as novel writing is a new experience for me, and was thrilled when she emailed on Monday to say she liked the story and the first chapter. I will keep you updated on here as to when it will be available if you are interested in reading it … I warn you now it is a bit of a tear jerker.

Last night we launched our 50-hour Autumn fashion event with the catwalk show. I just want to mention one of our stylists, Charlotte, who I thought did a fantastic job pulling all the looks together to reflect the four key trends for this season. Everything on air until midnight tomorrow is on some form of Easy Pay so make the most of it and treat yourself to a few new things to start your Autumn/Winter wardrobe.

Perhaps a new handbag? I have an hour of Tignanello at 5pm or there is the Lulu Guinness TSV launching at midnight tonight. Or maybe it's boots you are after? I have the re-launch of EMU tonight at 9pm – the 'ugly' boot styles have been streamlined a little for lightness and a snugger fit.

Milo in a plastic basket Milo in a wicker basketI'm off work this weekend but I will be seeing some of my work colleagues at Simon Wilson's BIG birthday bash tomorrow. I couldn't possibly divulge how old he is but this birthday has an 0 on the end and he is a few years older than me … I'll leave it there. He has invited my son and daughter to the party too, which will involve Wilfie coming back to ours for an overnight stay. I am wondering how Milo will take to that as he really has made himself at home finding the funniest places to fall asleep!

Butler and Wilson jewellery box insideSooooo, the moment you have all been waiting for. A huge congratulations to Leanne B who has won the Butler & Wilson jewellery box. I'll try and persuade Simon to donate another prize for a competition on here just before Christmas.

Have a lovely weekend whatever you are up to and see you next Thursday

Much love, Julia xx

    Hi Julia,
The shows with Simon were stunning although I did’nt purchase anything this time as by the time I decide to buy something it’s sold out. My husband always says that should be put as my epitaph!
I have been watching the fashion event which started last night and have the same problem of what to buy as there are so many lovely things. The handbags were loveley but oh to know which colour to go for as they are all fab!
Milo looks a little darling. My cat used to get into paper bags. As soon as she saw one she would be in it like a shot. One of my other cats, Mitzi, used to sleep in the airing cupboard. We found her in there one day and she had had kittens!!
Cats are so funny, the things they get up to. I watch “you’ve been framed” just to see the clips with the cats.
Well today our house was finally put on the market. The fella has just been to do the EPC and the for sale board has been put up. So now the stress starts. The last move was going to be our last. Huh- famous last words.
So gutted I did’nt win Simon’s fantastic jewellery box. Nevermind, I’ll have to get hubby to buy me one. LOL!! My birthday is in October, I’d better start hinting now….
Well I’m off to trawl the property finder. At least it’s easier now and I can look on line and not have to traipse around the estate agents.
Enjoy your days off. Take care, best wishes Tina (S.Wales)

Julia Julia whats going on with Pulis???? I was stunned to read that. Fingers crossed for the Arsenal game. Malky Mackay would be a good appointment. As long as its not Lennon! That might put me off CPFC a bit 😀 xxx

Hi Julia – just love watching the shows you present and on the subject of football , hope you get Malkie McKay as it was a shame when he had to go from Cardiff but at least we’ve had agood start to the season so far. xx

    Hi Julia,
I hope by the time you’ve read this, you’ve had a good rest and also looking back with fond memories of Simon’s Birthday party. I am sure it will have been a great evening! I didn’t end up buying the snake bracelet bangle in the end – I LOVED it but I now have 2 part-time jobs and having been out of work for a while, I went a bit mad spending early in the month and now waiting for one of my paydays! The bangle IS stunning and I wouldn’t rule out buying it in the future as I do love his jewellery.
Delighted to hear that the Copy Editor accepted your book – you are more than capable but it’s good for your own confidence and self-belief to know she accepted your book on its’ own merits and not on your good name. I really enjoyed your autobiography and it was a pleasure to read a book which didn’t have “typos” and was well-written. I will be buying your novel, no fear there!
How cute is Milo?! I await to hear how Wilfy and he got on!
    Have a good week,
    Beth XXX

    Hi Julia,
Did you receive what I said I was going to send you, sent it over a week ago.
Loved the shows with you and Simon he designs some beautiful things. What a lovely cake, beautifully decorated, and is that the same person who did the chocolate strawberries, which looked lovely.
Lovely to see photograph of Ali and her beautiful baby, takes after Mum as she is so attractive.
Love your bracelets what a lovely gift.
Milo is a beautiful cat, it will be nice to have Wilfie back even for a short stay, I guess you miss him.
Hope you all have a great time at Simon’s birthday bash.
Enjoy your time off. Take care.
    Love Jean XX

Hello Julia, Milo is a beautiful and cuddly ginger boy. When did you get him? Do you still have Poppy?

Hi Julia, I too was stunned at Pulis leaving the Palace. I am a Chelsea fan but I live in Upper Norwood not so far from Crystal Palace so they are my ‘2nd’ team. I think Malky would be a good bet for you and I certainly wish Palace the very best for the new season (very unlucky against the Arsenal)!
I love Milo I have 2 cats (black & white) but have always hankered after a ginger – maybe one day. Have a good rest and look forward to seeing you on TV soon. Lots of hugs, Linda xxx

    Hi Tina
I’m glad to hear you have finally put your house on the market – good luck with it all, and I hope you find the house of your dreams soon!
Milo is not a little darling! Having bitten through my phone charger lead a couple of weeks ago, he chewed through the Internet cable. We have now had to out an old piece of hosepipe round it to stop him doing it again! Having said that he is curled up next to me right now looking adorable!
    Enjoy the Bank Holiday

    Hi Steven,
Well it was close but no cigar in the Arsenal game! How frustrating to concede 2 goals in the dying minutes of each half however it was a better result than I had dared hope for!
Sooooo no Malky McKay and Ian Moody has gone now too. Not sure what is happening … Maybe Pulis will come back?
First home game tomorrow against West Ham … hope t’s our first points of the season!

    Hi Sarah
Well we won’t be getting Malky McKay!! I guess Keith Millen will be in charge for tomorrow again. To be honest I always said that he steadied the ship when Ian Holloway left before Tony Pulis came in …. It would be nice to be able to focus on what’s going on on the pitch rather than off it!
Hope you have a good season

    Hi Beth
Simon’s party was lovely … he really enjoyed himself and the venue, Beach Blanket Babylon in Notting Hill, is fabulous!
I spent the whole of Monday and Tuesday checking my book before sending it to the copy editor on Wednesday. I totally agree with you about typos …. I’m shocked at how many books get into print these days with big errors in them, particularly when they will have been copy-edited and proof read by different people, if published by a big company. I went through One Hundred Lengths of the Pool with a fine-tooth comb until I was satisfied.
In a week or so I should have the manuscript back and then I will need to decide whether to go for a deal or self-publish … keep you posted!

    Hello Jean
I feel really naughty! I did pick up some mail last night from my pigeon hole and I forgot to open it as I was prepping for the Vionic TSV …. sorry! I will check it a soon as I get in today!
Yes the cake was made by Jo who also made the delicious chocolate strawberries – one of my favourite things.
It was lovely to have a cuddle with Wilfie but I felt terribly mean not allowing him outside. He has to be a house cat at Daniel’s, as he lives close to a busy road, so he couldn’t go out to play.
Very thoughtful of Ralph to give my the bracelets in Palace colours – unfortunately they didn’t bring us much luck last week but here’s hoping they will tomorrow!
Simon’s party was fab. Ali Young and her hubbie were there, and Dale and his lovely daughter.

    Hi Carole
So pleased you enjoyed the B & W anniversary shows. I have put a stop on myself buying anymore Yankee Candles at the moment as I have quite a few and they last so long. My current one, lemon and lavender, I started burning in May and it is only just getting to the bottom … I like good value for money.

    Hello Sheena
Milo is our daughter Sophie’s cat – she is back living with us at the moment. He is Wilfie’s brother, although only about half his size! Yes we do still have Poppy … she is nineteen now but will still have a bit of a play with Milo when she’s in the mood!

    Hi Linda
Yes we were unlucky against Arsenal although before kick off I would have taken that scoreline as I thought we were going to be thrashed with the upset of the shenanigans off the pitch. The plot thickens with the Malky McKay revelations this week and Ian Moody resigning! We seem to ever be far from controversy!
I think Chelsea will win the title this year …. Just my opinion!
I think ginger cats are renowned for their mild temperament and that is certainly true of Milo apart from the wire chewing.
Another busy week for me away from QVC I’m afraid – in some ways it’s a rest being back at work!
