With You in Spirit

Although back from a wonderful holiday, I’m technically still on annual leave, so I won’t be on air for Beauty Weekend, but I couldn’t let it slip by without mentioning it on here. I am a massive fan of many of the QVC beauty brands and I’ll give you a run down of my typical holiday beauty regime later in the blog.

The holiday to Mauritius was exactly what Chris and I needed after a massively busy year with all the house renovations. It was also the last time we would be celebrating the 19th January as our anniversary. This year marked forty-one years of living together but as from 27th August, we will have a new date to celebrate as our anniversary.

Actually, part of the reason for the trip to Mauritius (only booked on the Friday before we travelled on the Monday) was to do a bit of a recce to help us decide on our wedding location.

We have been once before, a year after my diagnosis with chronic myeloid leukaemia, and it was where the idea for my Liberty Sands trilogy of books originated. It’s obviously a creative place for me, as I now have the whole plot of my second book for my publisher’s, Bookouture, nailed which is just as well as the first draft has to be in by the end of April!

The weather was quite hot and humid and we did have rain on a few of the days, but the rest of the time it was gloriously sunny and I’m sure Ali Young will be pleased to hear I spent a lot of time in the shade scribbling notes or reading. I love reading, and don’t often have much time for it, so what a pleasure to consume almost three novels in the nine days we were away. As you can see here, I had a reading companion on our final day… don’t tell Wilfie!

As promised, here is a run down of my typical daily beauty routine on holiday – I’m sure you’ll recognise some of the products in the picture of our bathroom! It must have been a nightmare for the cleaners having to move that lot every day!

Shower – Molton Brown Coco and Sandalwood
Face wash – Elemis Biotec
Apply Ultrasun Tan Accelerator 30 on both face and body

Before Dinner:
Shower and face wash as above
Apply Ultrasun Pre-Tan Optimiser (I still have some, although it is currently discontinued)
Face – Liz Earle Instant Boost (they have a TSV coming up next Sunday)
Decleor Eye and Aromessence Solaire, followed by L’Occitane Divine Cream

Tarte Eyeshadow (they have a TSV next Friday)
Laura Geller Eye Liner
Benefit Rollerlash Mascara
IT Cosmetics Eyebrow Pencil
Mally Blusher
Lip Lift, followed by Laura Geller Lip Gloss

Elemis White Flowers Lip and Eye Make-up Remover
Elemis Micellar Water
Decleor Eye and Aromessence Solaire
Elemis Overnight Matrix

Despite all the sitting in the shade, I have come back with a good tan, no sunburn or peeling and well-moisturised skin.

Quite a few of the brands I have mentioned above will be featuring during our Beauty Weekend and it’s a good time to buy, as it’s £1.95 P&P for the whole event. The TSV on Saturday is a 3 Piece Volumizing Hair Collection from Tweak’d by Nature, and on Sunday it’s the LAB Mini Pro Lifting and Toning Device.

There are also four Premiere shows and the return of Algenist to QVC, as well as lots of your favourite brands.

As I mentioned at the top of this blog, I’m still on annual leave but my ‘holiday’ as such is over, as I have a lot of writing to do in the next few days. I’m next on air at 2pm on Thursday with Honora Pearls, followed by Fashion by Together at 3pm and Nina Leonard Fashion at 5pm – it will be the first time I’ll have seen Cate Bandel since our meet up in New York in November. We had been to see the New England Patriots play that day (my son’s team) and now they have qualified for the Superbowl against the odds… could they possibly win it on Feb 3rd?

Closer to home, good luck to all the teams in the next round of the FA Cup this weekend – in particular Crystal Palace.

See you next Thursday,
Much love,
Julia xx

      Hi Anita
Are you from there then? What a beautiful place to call home.
Please don’t feel you have to read my books but if you do, let me know what you think.
We are going to get married in Mauritius in August btw – decision made

Hi Julia, So glad you enjoyed your holiday. It must have been fantastic to get away from this terrible weather! I did leave you a reply on your previous blog not realising your impending holiday . I haven’t been in touch for quite some time as I have been without a computer. Hubby bought me this one for Christmas, so fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong with this one. (In case you can’t remember me, I’m the Welsh Rugby Fanatic from S.Wales). Speaking of the rugby , the 6 Nations Rugby is starting Friday with us playing France. Its an away game. We’ve only got 2 games at home which is a bit of a downer. Anyway, enough of me boring you with my rugby rants. I hope you are well rested after your holiday. Best wishes , Tina S. x

      Hi Tina
I’ve replied to you on your previous comment – apologies it has taken me longer than usual to respond – and you must be over the moon that Wales won (in the end!)

You look lovely as alwaysJ Julia. I think bookouture are pretty good publishers, I get a lot of crime books from them, and the authors seem well looked after. I was wondering when you were getting married, keep us informed and with plenty of photos. Take care xx

Hi Julia just wondering what eye liner you use when you are on screen, and also cannot find the Decleor Eye and Aromessence Solaire on qvc’s website.

    • Julia Roberts February 12, 2019 at 2:46 pm -  Reply

      Hi Jan
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. Because I’m sensitive around the eye area, I actually use a Tarte eyeshadow dry as eyeliner & a Laura Gellar pencil in the inner rim.
My bad re the Decleor eye product – it’s the new eye product (it may be called everfresh?) and the aromessence solaire we don’t currently sell on QVC.
      Hope that helps

I commentated on your November blog about your results as regards your renovations.
I know when we’ve done work on our house you do need a complete break.
I ‘m not a book worm. So the blogs that are super long I come off.
Beauty products are a must. i’ve got a lot mainly from QVC and keep my daughter supplied.
I’ve treated myself to the TSV Sunday. mainly for the cheek area as I’ve a wedding
    on August the 10th.
Anyway good luck with your novels.

      Hi Patricia
I hope my blogs are not too long for you – I do ramble a bit sometimes.
We really did need a holiday – the house renovations have been pretty full on – we just have the utility room to finish now.
As you can tell, I’m a big fan of a lot of QVC beauty products & I also have a wedding to attend in August – my own!
Thanks for your good wishes for my novels – actually, I’ve just heard they are bringing the publication date forward to June, very exciting.

Sounds like the perfect location for a well deserved holiday. I spent part of my honeymoon in Mauritius at Le Touessrok and loved it. You must be thrilled with Palace’s result today, unfortunately my team Everton got beaten yesterday, so good luck to C.P. in 5th round xx

It was a lovely location and a very relaxing holiday – seems ages ago now though!
Sorry about Everton not making it through to the 5th round – we have Doncaster on Sunday. It’s on TV but then so am I so I’ll miss the second half.

      Hi Julie,
We stayed in the north-west of the island this time at the Maritim Resort and spa – quite laid back, not too posh. Last time we stayed at the Sugarbeach in Flic en Flac which we also liked
      Hope you get booked ok

We got married 12 years ago in what was Legends in Grand Gaube (think it’s changed name now). Such a beautiful island. We promised ourselves we would go back for our 25th wedding anniversary – only 13 years to go!
