Will: The Grand Opening of our new studios!

QVC, Chiswick ParkWell today there is a mixture of sadness and excitment as we're moving out of Battersea Towers to a brand new location in Chiswick, West London. We've just outgrown it!

Lots of people have worked in Battersea for many years, some since QVC first began broadcasting on 1st October 1993. We've racked up a massive 163,651 hours of broadcast in total!

BUT the new studios are beautiful, the sets look amazing and there's a real feeling of moving on to new pastures…

I've been over to our new studios in Chiswick a few times now and it's been a long time in the planning. The work that has gone into moving us from one area of London to another has been immense! It has taken over 36,000 hours to prepare, installing 253,000 metres of cabling and moving more than 1,500 crates as well as numerous boxes, cages and clothes rails over 200 separate journeys!

Here's a little preview of some of the areas at our new home, which will house over 500 people, 587 computers, 111 TV screens and 20 cameras! Before you even get into the building you're greeted with this stunning lake (top left)… there are definitely worse places to eat your sandwiches at lunchtime!

Will in the dressing rooms The Green Room

The picture above (left) is one of the dressing rooms, they're all really bright and quiet too. Plus, we love the Hollywood style lighting around the mirror, well it's nice to pretend isn't it?!

The picture on the right is of our new Green Room, this is where all of the QVC guest presenters can relax… there are tables, a sofa area and a pretty swanky kitchenette, it's nicer than my flat!

Meanwhile back over in Battersea Alison Young thought it would be a good idea to leave all of her packing until the last minute…

Ali clearing out her dressing room Ali packing up her dressing room

As you can see from the pictures above Ali has collected a few 'treasures' over the years, talk about hoarder! She also found a very apt t-shirt buried under years of products, we love it.

So join us live on QVC all day on Thursday the 7th of June for the first shows from our new home, I'll be tweeting pictures throughout the day and reading your comments out live on air. Plus, we'll have lots going on for the first four days in our Grand Opening event with special offers, great brands, a fab competition and more!

See you soon, Will x

QVC has brightened up my life since the early days of your old premises, and I remember the excitement of purchasing my first product-diamonique of course. I was ready to be critical and it was my first experience of online tv shopping but thoroughly enjoyed the experience from beginning to end. Your customer service is fantastic and I enjoy watching all the presenters and learning from them. I sincerely wish all the staff and presenters all the best in their new location. I look forward to many more years of viewing.

The new building looks lovely – light and airy. I’m disappointed that the new studio sets don’t reflect this. The background is very DARK and BUSY. The clothes, handbags, models and presenters can’t be seen clearly against the backdrop, they are absorbed by the dark wood and displays. The old studio sets were much brighter and vibrant. This new set looks like a dimly lit nightclub crossed with an art gallery. Please can we have a bright, neutral backdrop for your products so we can focus on the products rather than have them disappearing into the backdrop. Thanks!

  48. Hannah June 8, 2012 at 6:26 pm -  Reply

New premises look stunning from outside but so far not enjoying the interior, very dark and severe, also disappointed after all the hype that there was nothing exciting would have been good to have new items from 1st day instead of 4th day, find backdrop too off putting, the setting for yankee candles looks like a sale in a church hall.

Hello to you at Chiswick Park, beautiful building, where would I be without the family of QVC, my life would be boring!! A little disappointed with the scenery, a little dark and does not compliment clothing displayed. Apart from that, very modern and very new. I have been in the early days to QVC Towers when Kirks Folly had their first party including Steve Whatley Kara Tritton etc., would miss you all if I didn’t watch. Regards C.M.Hindle Mrs. Oswaldtwistle. Lancs.

Have to say that I much preferred the bright and uncluttered old sets of Battersea. Fashion particularly is not well presented now with the busy background, annoying (background?) music and stairs that the models have to awkwardly negotiate. Hope some things are reconsidered soon.

  52. FLO June 8, 2012 at 10:43 pm -  Reply

I love QVC and your excellent service, but to my relief, Alison has echoed my feelings on the new sets – a cross between a dark old barn and a 1980’s kitchen comes to mind. While modelling Kim’s animal prints, poor Sharon, Goodie and Tania disappeared into the woodwork after tangling with a horizontal beam. I myself had to peer through the gloom to view the items.
I so enjoyed the last show from QVC Towers with Ralph and Julia; my iPhone was quite wet as I tapped the App to order the pink TSV. The next day I hoped to be cheered by Chiswick, but I was unable to banish bright Battersea from my brain. I really feel that you are not doing yourselves, or your products, or your viewers, any favours with this distracting decor. Sorry!

    Hi All
Love QVC & all the wonderful brands & deals you bring us, especially over the last few days.
I have got to say though I really don’t like the new sets. They look quite dated and gloomy. Trying to watch Kim & Co the clothes were lost against the dark busy backdrops. Pippa looked like she was in a dingy room doing the Yankee Candles show this afternoon. Sorry!!
The old sets may have been simple but they were neutral bright & fresh. Please QVC brighten things up I am finding it quite difficult to watch shows! No watchy no shoppy!

  54. M Pearson June 9, 2012 at 8:55 am -  Reply

I agree with Alison that the sets are too dark and busy, everything blends in together.I would like to see the product, thats what its all about,it makes viewing less pleasing to the eye.

  55. Susan Copland June 9, 2012 at 12:22 pm -  Reply

I agree that the new sets are very disappointing. Dark, gloomy and distracting from the items being shown. The old ones were light and plain, so why not replicate them in the new building? I see from the photos of the dressing rooms and Green Room that it’s basic comfort rather than luxurious. Perhaps QVC should ask Kelly Hoppen to do their rooms.Having said this, I wish QVC luck in their new home because they do a fantastic job.

  56. Gillian Fisher June 9, 2012 at 12:53 pm -  Reply

I have just tuned into QVC,the first time since your move.I am watching the Diane Gilman show, and finding it difficult to see the details on the clothing ,due to the dark and busy backgound. Much preferred the lighter less busy backgrounds from your previous studio.

  57. Helen Hendry June 9, 2012 at 3:36 pm -  Reply

I am in agreement with alison about the new studio design. Sorry but it looks like inside a cave, you really can’t see the fabulous clothes at their best. Hope you can brighten in up. GOOD LUCK FOR MANY MORE YEARS.

  58. Daphne Wallis June 9, 2012 at 3:51 pm -  Reply

Good luck in your new building: but I agree with an earlier comment ,the sets are very dark and very busy, noticed this on Kim & Co fashion, distracts you from looking at the clothing. Prefer the lighter decor that you had at the previous studios.

  59. Jill June 9, 2012 at 4:00 pm -  Reply

So you made it. Congratulations on the move and best wishes to you all in the new gaff. Having seen a few of the new shows I agree with others that the set appears to be very detailed lots of dark wood, not sure how well that shows off the products, to me it appears a bit dark, maybee it’s the lighting, however best wishes. Please be clear on the sizing and volume of the products you sell helps customers to purchase more.
Well done to you all, and look forward to more of the same great shows.
Looks like a great place to relax in thoes gardens at lunch time.
Hope the sun shines on you this summer!

Am I the only Qvc viewer disappointed with the new set? I dislike the dark wood and the shows now feel very cold whereas before the studio made shows feel warm and welcoming. I am disappointed and miss the old studio.

The new studio looks dark and depressing. Puts me off watching. Please can you change it. If it aint broke…

Love some of the new sets but agree that the dark busy background for some shows is distracting and far too busy, I have to concentrate on seeing the products against the background. More light and neutral please.

  63. Daphne Marsden June 10, 2012 at 12:04 pm -  Reply

I am so glad that someone else has found the new studios distracting and busy and frankly dull. I remembered the new move on Thursday night, and tuned in to find Kim and Co, and I found the whole experience so distracting I turned off!
Hope someone sees this comment and does something about it.

  64. C.A.Bruce June 10, 2012 at 4:54 pm -  Reply

Disappointed with the new look studios, settings seem very dark and at times it looks like the item is being presented from inside a church. Its a pity the sets don,t reflect the dressing rooms etc. light and airy it is going to deter me from watching and subsequently ordering in the future which is a pity as i liked the channel up until now. Why mend what is not broken ?

  65. Fran Scott June 10, 2012 at 6:20 pm -  Reply

Best of luck to you all. Sadly I do agree with Alison, with the exception of a room with lovely windows the sets are dark and do seem to distract from the products. Has Richard Jackson got a lovely new garden? What about giving us an on air tour?

Oh dear, how dark and drab the sets are. Is it a Gothic horror? Even RJ was complaining at the reduced size of his bench…..!
Products and models hard to see in the gloom. We love shopping with you but this needs a re-think.

  68. Angela Bradley June 10, 2012 at 10:58 pm -  Reply

You may have outgrown Marco Polo House , but you moved because the lease was up and the owners have other plans for the site !
Would have been great to have a proper tour round the new building –how many studios do you have now —- a few snaps don`t give much of a feel of the place .
New sets are weird —the tetris pieces –the dark cave –the cluttered church with gothic windows , and every show seems to have a background of crashes as though someone is still putting the sets together —not to mention the models clattering up and down the wooden stairs — looks good in shot but so noisy in use —-

  69. Lynn Curtis June 14, 2012 at 6:05 pm -  Reply

I’m sorry your new studio, are not what I expected. They are dark, a distraction from the item on air and very busy back ground.
Did you look at the studio set up in USA, a much bright and colourfull scene when viewing.
Would you re think and improve the studio.

Good luck in your new home, BUT PLEASE DO SOMETHING WITH THE SET LIGHTING. It is TOO DARK!!! It is really gloomy. The set is a distraction – too busy – and also very dark. This is not what I expect from QVC.
Can you do a video tour of the new studios – both inside and out and place it on Q gossip.
