Why I’m not on strictly… plus two early bird deals!

2

Hehe! Staying with my brother’s family whilst I’m working in London has its advantages. For me, mostly. Lol. Check out this funny vid – thought it’d tickle you. Can’t understand why my brother doesn’t like me ‘helping’ him with his piano practise can you?

I posted it on Facebook this week and had some super comments from people. Well you’ve got to have a laugh haven’t you?!

See below for info about some fab outings whilst staying up in London this week, as I had a couple of events on, so haven’t been back to Devon for a bit. Fun week though!

SNIPPETS

Political Quiz

As I’m a geek and love politics, I went along to a quiz up London this week. I ended up on a team with famous economist Jo Lea, and met some lovely people. One of them has agreed to come along and do a talk at a supper for the youth group down in Devon next year. The only problem for me was that I answered three questions, that no one else seemed to want to answer, and got all of them wrong! Ooops. Then we lost, by four points. #RedFace. Can you guess the year the poster in this picture was used in one of the party campaigns? No me neither. The question I was kicking myself about was ‘who declared their residence was a cupboard in the House of Commons on census night in 1911. I’d seen this in the film Suffragette – but I chose the wrong Suffragette – it was Emily Wilding Davison, not Emeline Pankhurst. Silly Debbie… Not going to open my mouth again in future. And I’m supposed to be clever! Lol.

Media Group Gathering

The day before, I’d gone along to the women’s media group where once a month they have talks mostly about writing, journalism, publishing etc, and I saw several writer pals there. It’s one of the few Mondays I’ve been in London this year. Well, one speaker, Phoebe Morgan, is an author and an editor at a big publishers. She’s in need of a writing retreat herself, which was very handy. I was chuffed when she said she’ll come down to my place one weekend and give a talk there – all about how to get an agent – a big thing if you want to be an author as most publishers don’t take people without one. And of course, one day I’ll finish my fifth book … one day… and get an agent… one day! Actually depending upon Lolly’s baby arriving I’ll be in France at my fave retreat end of next week, so there’s hope! Knowing my luck it’ll arrive just as I’m about to get on the plane though! Not long now!

Teacher’s Pet Update

Exciting news this week, with the announcement – which even made the BBC here – that police in Sydney are digging up a garden in the case of missing mum Lynette Dawson. If you recall, a recent blog had the recommendation to listen to the world famous podcast ‘The Teacher’s Pet’ which investigates this cold case from 1982. It’s unbelievable listening to all the things that were overlooked back then – I was gripped. But now they are going to use modern technologies to see what they can find as she was never seen again. Dramatic!

3D Coffee

My telly hubby Lee Hohbein is on his travels again and in the Far East he got offered the option of a 3D coffee – and this is what arrived! Funny! He’s back in the UK in a few weeks to be on with me with some super Amazon shows. Time to start thinking about presents again? It’s come round so fast this year hasn’t it! Here’s a selection of our ‘gift’ offerings on our website – it pays to get in early!

Watch: Bodyguard

It’s been a while since I sat and binge watched a whole TV series, but the BBC’s Bodyguard is on everyone’s lips at the moment and can still just about be watched on Catch Up. It’s been an incredibly dramatic series, based around special protection officers and their relationships with top dignitaries, and includes a real surprise twist just when you least expect it. The writer said it’s not a fake event either (I won’t tell you – no spoilers) and won’t be ‘undone’ later… Do see it if you can! A good 9/10 from me.

Book of the week

What a great book I’ve just bought. From the meeting I went to, I followed up and bought a couple of books and am going to make one of them my new Book of the Week on my website book blog: Jane Corry’s ‘The Dead Ex,’ the third twist-filled thriller from the author of My Husband’s Wife and Blood Sisters.

It’s a drama-packed suspense and has a good chunk of fab reviews already. Jane has also written several other books – she is a Sunday Times bestseller. I like choosing new authors with lots of other novels to go onto afterwards if I like this one. Jane is an experienced writer and tutor of writing so she knows a thing or two about plot. What’s more, I love her covers. So onto this one – the write up says it’s about a woman whose husband deserts her for a mistress when she gets ill. Then a body turns up. But I like the slug line – ‘He cheated… He lied… He died…’ Check it out for yourself and see what you think! Psychological crime and thrillers are as popular as ever so this is a good one for me to listen to next. Other fab-sounding books also cropped up during chats at the meeting, watch out for Phoebe Grant’s ‘The Doll House’ and ‘Marriages are Made in Bond Street’ by Penrose Halson. Plus, finally, a mention that former QVC presenter Anna Cookson, a BBC Radio Kent host, has her first one about to be published too – great title – ‘The Sound of your Soul’ out soon with Pegasus books – am hoping it’ll be on audio book so I can get it!

Blooper of the week

Next week’s highlights:

Monday (17th) – Denim and Co. return with a cosy open front long sleeve cardigan with pockets.

Tuesday (18th ) – Soniclean have an ultra sonic toothbrush deal with eight brush heads.

Wednesday (19th) – top kitchen brand Le Creuset are back including their TSV; a 30cm shallow casserole with grill and lid. It goes on sale a few days early so watch out for the early bird order links appearing on our social media, including my Twitter Facebook pages. (Links below, do follow me).

Thursday (20th) – Perricone bring us their latest bumper offering, the five-piece New Heroes Skincare Collection.

And there’s a MarlaWynne luxury V-neck jumper to end the week with.

Also I’m looking forward to fabulous Bruce from Bodyblade returning next week for another visit – just in time after the excesses of summer. With several whole hours, including with me at 6pm on Thursday. If you can’t wait, or want to see what all the fuss is about, go here to see the full demo online. And don’t forget if you haven’t got a DVD player any more, there are tons of workouts to exercise along to online, on their website and on YouTube etc. So you don’t have to guess, you can get great guidance from this professional and his clever device for strengthening the core, arms and hips, bum and thighs. Looking forward to seeing him it’s been ages. It’s been nearly three years since I went to LA and did a full super six on San Marino beach!

Next week on the blog – will Lauren’s baby be here? Jolly big bump now, wouldn’t you say?! Plus little great niece Skye turns one – a big family Flint get together and I get to see baby Blake Katherine my granddaughter for the first time in a while.

Have a fab week – I will!

Best wishes

Debs

Please could you remind me, what is the name and make of the ones you take which you have mentioned in your posts before? Thankyou so much.
