Who needs eight hours’ sleep?

I am very fortunate in the fact that I normally manage to get between six and eight hours sleep a night. Last night was the exception. I was at QVC until two in the morning working with lovely Ouida Oliver – hope you like the TSV today? It was Sophie's last shift at QVC so we arrived back at our house around 3 am.

Thankfully Sophie had done most of her packing for her Australia trip but the only thing she hadn't organised was any Australian currency. I had volunteered to pop into the travel agents to get her some as the exchange rates at the airport can sometimes be less favourable. Unfortunately, they didn't have any actual cash, but the girl in the travel agents was extremely helpful and suggested a pre-pay debit card. What a great idea, and probably a lot safer than carrying cash!

After explaining the workings of the card and finding a padlock for her backpack and a sarong for her to borrow, we finally got to bed at 4am. It was with great difficulty that I got up less than two hours later to take her to Heathrow Airport for her 9am flight.

Maybe we were both just a bit tired, or perhaps the events of the last week or two had caught up with us, but we both had a bit of a 'wobble' prior to her heading off through the departure gate on her own. She couldn't even take Jaws 2 for company as you're not allowed to take cuddly toys into Australia.I was relieved to get a text message an hour or so later to say she was boarding the plane and she sounded much more positive about her Oz adventure.

I'm heading into work in a few minutes for my 4pm show with Michael diCesare… apologies in advance for the under-eye bags!!

Much love, Julia xx

    Hi Julia
Im sure you’ll still look fab in your show.
I thought I’d message you in case you thought I had jumped off a cliff after my teams recent troubles! Have Palace been in administration before ? I thought they had but I thought I would ask an expert on all things Palace!
Maybe you have been enjoying the peace and quiet from me! How have Palace been doing? I have been pre occupied with a couple of things at my work plus all the goings on at Ibrox so I haven’t really noticed much in the football world. Kind of lost my appetite for it with all the talk of jobs being axed etc. I feel sorry for all the people behind the scenes too. I think there may be player cuts too
    Bad times.
Sorry to be so dreary! Just thought I would let you know I still check out the no 1 blog and woman on QVC even when she’s tired!!
    Take care xxxxx

    Hi julia
just a quick one, to thank you for the message you left on Alis blog for me.
You must be so proud of Sophie and what shes doing with her life. My good wishes to her, i hope she settles in to her new home and enjoys her career change. What is she doing instead of QVC?
Daniel too, how could you not be proud.
Hope your mum and sister are both keeping well too.
I have to say, Keeley is my favourite guest too, even when she “yelled” at me for using my gentle rose exfoliator too often!!!!!!!!
    Lots of love julia

We are all supporting you from a distance, Julia, you did well last night(well—early in the morning)——I could feel a slight wobble when you had a tweet(twit???) from someone about Sophie and decided not to read it out—didn’t blame you. You have obviously hit home to many women from your last blog as so many ladies felt the need to reply-lovely isn’t it, that we are able to support each other? Also thank you for replying to us all-I look forward to the replies-I have noticed that the presenters with children(therefore crazy-busy lives) are the ones that take so much time and effort to reply individually to us-it IS much appreciated.
Your ‘baby’ will soon be back home with lots to tell you.Have a good week ahead.LOVE FROM, K.XXX

    Hi Julia
I recorded the TSV last night as Chris had got a very early start this morning. Once I had done my pilates, I was looking forward to watching it whilst having my porridge (with a little spoon of Nutella and Linwoods Flaxseed, Cocoa and Berries…very tasty!). Bobby then wanted to go outside and I thought am I ever going to watch yourself and Ouida! Aaaah, at last…spoke too soon, the phone rang and we had a viewing request for tomorrow eeek!
Thinking of all the jobs I had to do, going mad with orange oiling the stairs, front door inside and out, a basket of washing I had planned to do over the weekend…I had to delay watching you until later this afternoon and have only just managed to get on the computer to read your blog.
Thank you for the mention last night, you are really kind and thoughtful. I must admit, I had a little tear in my eye seeing you with Sophie and could see how proud you were of her.
You’ve had a lot to deal with the last couple of weeks, Sophie moving into her new home, then leaving QVC and off to Australia for 3 weeks…hopefully the time will fly by. Will she be able to Skype you whilst she’s away?
At least for the next 10 days you can put your feet up and chill out. Have a lovely break Julia and thank you again for the mention.
    Annette x

Hello Julia, You looked fine today on Qvc and the dress you had on, last night in the black and today in the coral was fabulous, I am a size 2o so am a bit reluctant to order, as it may show up all my lumps and bumps, but am trying to lose a few pounds, have had some lovely things from Qvc over the years, it is hard when your children leave home, all my three have left, two live out here in Spain, both have partners and thankfully visit all the time, and our eldest still lives in the Uk, miss him loads and catch up on Skype and he visits us and we to him, still have a good cry when he goes home, but this is all part of life and we must get on with the life we are given, and be happy in the fact, that we have brought up such well mannered and grounded young people who one day will be like us, Sophie will have a good trip to Australia and will come back with lots of tales to tell, love watching your shows and you always tell us the truth, keep up the good work, Lots of Love Janicexxxx

Hi Julia I just wanted to say Sophie will have the time of her life in Australia it’s the most fantastic place for young people to visit. My hubby was forty in November( we are not young!!) and from the moment I met him he has wanted to go to Oz so we finally got some money together we took a month off and it was the best holiday ever, we hired a motor home and travelled from Melbourne to Cairns don’t want to bore you with any more details but just wanted to say we stayed on lots of sites where all the backpackers hung out and what a really good group of people we met from all parts of the world but really nice and what I noticed everyone was so friendly and helpful and most of all I felt really safe!!! She will have a ball!!! so try not to worry too much.
I really don’t know how you presenters do such different shift work and the late night early mornings- not for me!!
Hope you have a good week.
    Michelle x
Ps Just had a quick read of Alison’s blog oh she has brought some great memorises back for me from Sidney!!

I need eight hours sleep Julia (or at least I feel loads better for it) but more often than not, it eludes me! I didn’t manage to tune in on Friday pm but I’m sure you looked as gorgeous as ever.
I liked the Ronni Nicole TSV, especially the black/white one you had on, but I had already spent more than my quota for this week (Skagan watch and some Sketchers). That wouldn’t usually stop me but I’m saving myself for ‘Franklin Fox’!!!!!
    Lots of love

I hope she settles in to her new home and career. Dont worry they always miss you more than they let on. Take care.

    Hi Julia
I didnt realise that Sophie was going to the other end of the earth – i feel for you both as i can tell you both have a great mum/daughter relationship and will miss each other desperately – but with mobile phones, skype and all the other communication tools you’ll be speaking as often as you want to.My own mum died when i was 11 – she has been a miss to me all my life – so i appreciate and am envious of good mum/daughter relationships – you and Sophie and you and your mum are blessedx Although i’ve been blessed with great female role models since very young so i should not complain.I watched the Decleor shows yesterday(bought the TSV) QVC have done us proud with the Elemis and Decleor TSV’s this year – great prices with items we all use as basics – anyway whilst i was watching one of the evening shows Fiona said that one of Ali Youngs tips was to use the Hydrotenseur serum all over the face(6 pumps) – have you tried this,i doubt you have because of your sensitivity but thought i would ask anyway. I think eyebags are a part of us getting older wether we get enough sleep or not but with beautiful eyes(like yours) we get away with it – your blessed again Juliax I’ve got very sensitive eyes too – i never let anything go near my tear ducts – but i’m really enjoying the Emma Hardie eye serum(not a cream) – i double this up with my Elemis pro-intense eye cream at night(i use the serum alone in the day) and am enjoying the results – for me its using the smallest amount as my undereye can get too saturated and thats when i smart and my eyebags are exaggerated. I’m thinking about buying the Revitalash serum – everyone seems to be getting such great results!!(i know you mentioned that your Sophie had) but i’m not sure due to sensitivity(vicious circle eh!!) I watched you on the beauty channel the other day -an Elemis show with Keeley and Emma – you were coming back from a break and Keeley was showing Emma the new Nails inc colour she had recently bought and had painted her toe nails with – i love Keeley she is so down to earth and knows her stuffx, anyway, the reason i mention it is because i now appreciate how much you had cut off your hair – you did take the plunge and it really suits youx Look after yourself Juliax Speak soon Love Linda,Glasgowxx

    Hi Steven
I was wondering what had happened to you but presumed it must be something to do with the goings on at Ibrox. Yes Palace have been in administration – it’s really horrible not knowing if your team are going to survive or not, but I guess Rangers won’t be allowed to go under as it would ruin Scottish football.
Palace won at the weekend but let in a late goal tonight at Coventry so ended up with a draw. We are gradually creeping up the table – hoping we can make the play offs.
Hope things work out for Rangers – don’t be too despondant

Thanks for reassuring me that Sophie will be OK in OZ. She seems to be enjoying her holiday but the weather hasn’t been too good so she and a couple of girls she roomed with in Sydney are heading up the coast this week. She was in spot X for a couple of days, now she is in Byron Bay and moving on to Surfers Paradise at the weekend before heading back to sydney to stay with Chris’s family.
I guess we just get used to the shift work but I am much better on late nights than early mornings.

Only another week to go until Sophie is back in the UK – she has been keeping in touch via texts. I know how lucky I am to have such a great relationship with both my children and with my Mum of course.
Re sensitive eyes – I have also been using the Emma Hardie serum in the morning and the Pro Intense from Elemis at night – how weird is that?? Have just run out of EH so back to Decleor hydra floral gel cream – have you tried it?
I keep deliberating on Revitalash – Sophie says the new formula is gentler but I am still a bit nervous to try it. Definitely patch test if you go for it.

No I didn’t have itchy upper arms – that sounds horrible. I have been diagnosed with Psoriasis so I had flaky red patches everywhere. I had to have steroids to calm it down and then Ali Young got me some pure oils … Wheatgerm, Avocado etc which I used until my skin had calmed down and then I started to reintroduce more ‘active’ beauty products one by one. I didn’t use it but I hear shea butter is pretty good

Thank you for the email, I did act upon it and sent you a reply, but not sure if you received it.
I see QVC are going to be featuring the Higher Nature brand…I have been a member and used their products before, even Bobby had some doggy vitamins in the past and they are very good!
Re: Revitalash, saw it on this morning with Kathy and they are now saying to put it across your lashes rather than on the skin area…might not have such a reaction with soreness that way.
I will send you an updated email, if you don’t mind.
