Where Did January Go?

I can’t believe that, as I sit writing this, January is almost over for another year… really? It seems to have whizzed by, as has the last week for me. I hope you all enjoyed the Beauty Weekend and have started experimenting with some of your new purchases. I tried the Becca London LTD illuminating fluid for the first time, mixed in with my Laura Geller Baked Liquid Radiance Foundation, and I must say I was very impressed.

It was lovely to meet so many new guests too and thank you to the guys from NIOD who were so thrilled with their success that I was the lucky recipient of a bouquet of flowers on Wednesday – great timing as we had just thrown Sophie’s flowers away. They were really pretty with white roses and freesias but also pink lilies. As we have cats I have had to put the lilies in a separate vase in Sophie’s bedroom (the cats are not allowed in there) as lilies can be poisonous for cats.

Speaking of cats, my friend Natalie bought me a funny calendar of cats doing yoga!!! I thought I had better share January’s pose with you before the month runs out.

From this week, on my blog, I am going to be doing a little section called Fashion Focus. It’s where I pick out something from our QVC Fashion ranges which is coming up in the next week to draw your attention to – a bit like ‘Julia’s Pic’ on the Fashion on Friday show. The first Fashion Focus is Biba, which is back on your screens on February 4th at 8pm.

I like this range and already own a couple of styles which will be featuring in the show. One is the ivory coloured spotty blouse, 156573, which lots of you have asked me about over the past few months and the other is the black pleated blouse with a red and gold pattern, 158340. Both are very comfortable but smart worn with skinny jeans or black leggings. Something I haven’t managed to get my hands on yet is 158338, the stud logo t-shirt so I may well be doing a bit of shopping too on Thursday evening. Everything in the show will be on advanced order but it is usually sent out pretty promptly and, as it’s always a busy show, you may want to check our website in advance.

Whilst on the subject of fashion, today’s Fashion on Friday is featuring Together and stay watching for the first of the new series of Spotlight on Jewellery. Unfortunately, the new Emozioni range didn’t arrive in time but there will be plenty else to whet your appetite.

Well, last week I posted the cover picture of ‘The Windsor’ magazine. At the time the February edition hadn’t been published but it is out now and if you’d like to read the article just follow this link which is actually to the Surrey Downs magazine where it will also feature.

I thought the journalist, Emily Horton, did a great job of linking her piece to the film about Joy Mangano, called Joy. I haven’t seen it yet but it is definitely on my must see list along with Spectre – maybe a couple of trips to the cinema during my upcoming days off. I will have to try to avoid going to Waitrose though as they give the magazine out free next to the checkouts in my local one.

I have a busy day today as I am going to the opening of the new British Polio offices in Watford before my shift at QVC. It is a ‘Royal’ opening so I will hopefully be able to pop a picture on here next week – I wonder if I will have to curtsey?

Have a fabulous weekend – I have about 10,000 words of my next book to write before I’m back on air next Thursday, if I’m going to make my May deadline.

Much love
Julia xx

      Hi Martin
I thought January whizzed by – maybe time is just going faster now that I am older.
Sophie started her new job this week – only four days in but she’s really enjoying it. Hoping to have some news on a new home for her soon – all sorts of annoying delays but that’s house-buying isn’t it.
Daniel’s fine- Sophie stayed with him for a few days last week. He’s been on another FA course this week.
      Enjoy your two weeks off

      Hi Alison
So sorry to hear you have been off work sick – I hope you are feeling better now?
Crikey you didn’t hang about with your first couple of purchases. I think QVC did some research a few years back and it was discovered that jewellery is a first purchase for quite a large percentage of viewers (myself included actually).
I hope we will see you at other times, not just when you’re off work poorly

    Hi Julia,
I agree with you in saying January has flown by but we’ve had such terrible weather since November that I will be glad to see the back of it! I’m not one to moan about the weather normally, honest, but it has been truely anominal. I look forward to the spring which is just around the corner. We’ve already had daffodils out and I’m sure I’ve seen “activities” with the birds in the garden. I must say I look forward to the spring when everything starts coming into bloom after the dark winter days.
I enjoyed the fashion at 5pm but didn’t get anything as l ordered the Emu OTO a couple of days ago. I was lucky to get them as they sold out pretty quick as you can imagine. My perseverance paid up and after about the umteenth time of phoning q cut I got them.
I replied to your question about what Groggs are on your previous blogg. In case you missed it, Groggs are figures made in Wales of various personalised ranging from of course our rugby teams, footballer’s and there was even one of Freddie Mercury. I think they’ve also done one of Pavoratti. There’s a museum there as well showing all the figures that have been crafted. After a certain number of whatever’s made then the moulds are broken. You should visit it when you get a chance. It’s based at Treforest, Pontypridd. You can Google them on World of Groggs or http://www.groggs.co.UK
I’ve just been checking the RBS 6 Nations fixtures site so we’re eagerly awaiting our first match!
Hope you are keeping well after your recent episode.
    All the best, Tina S ( in a very soggy S.Wales!!) X

Hi Julia, me again. Just checked my spelling after I posted it!! Should read , “abdominal” not “abdominal”. What am
      I like! Bye again,Tina☺

Ignore the above, something wrong with this Tablet not me! I can spell honest. The weather is disgusting!!! Tina. I did not type in abdominal honestly!

      Hi Tina
You did make me laugh with your ‘spellings’! Autocorrect is really quite annoying on tablets – sometimes I tweet, only to find out something else entirely has been tweeted – fortunately nothing too embarrassing as yet.
Dan hasn’t really mentioned the weather too much – Sophie however was down visiting him last week and wouldn’t even walk to the supermarket because the rain was so bad. To be fair, it hasn’t been great in England either.
We don’t have any daffodils out yet which I’m pleased about – a run of a few days of hard frost and they would be done for.
Thanks for explaining about the Groggs – not sure I’ll be collecting any though.
Good luck in the rugby when it starts
      Speak soon

Hello Julia, I agree with you, January did whizz by, not that I’m complaining as it’s not my favourite month and I always get Post Yuletide Blues! This year it was a time of great contrasts, however, I’m a glass half full girl and will concentrate on the positives – after being missing for nine days our daughter’s cat, Enzo, was found in the laundry room of a local hotel. He was scared and a tad battered but generally alright and glad to be home. Last week she found out that her second baby, who is due in June, is a boy so we’ll have a sort of pigeon pair and my wonderful husband has decided the time is right to take early retirement, enjoy his pension and have some me time – I’m going to leave him in charge of my H20x5! I like your Fashion Focus section and I love the spotty blouse from Biba, it really suits you, sadly as it’s now sold out I’ll never know if it looks as good on me. Delighted to see you looking and sounding better. Love from Jo x

      Hi Jo
What a relief that Enzo turned up fit and well – you must have all been beside yourselves with worry! It reminds me of the time my lovely old cat, Dylan, got locked in a neighbour’s garage for a couple of days. I cried my eyes out and he just strolled back into the garden as if nothing had happened.
Congratulations on the imminent arrival – well fairly imminent! And pleased to hear that you and your Hubbie are going to have a bit more time to spend together now that he’s taken early retirement – I already see quite enough of Chris (only joking, just in case he reads this!)
I’m surprised you didn’t manage to get the spotty blouse last night, I think they had ordered quite a lot of stock – must have been popular, Marion (on below comment) got it.
Am feeling much better although I’ve got an aching knee today – I put it down to age!
      Speak soon

Now then Miss Julia, if you don’t stop tempting me, I’m gonna have to stop reading your blogs! Just bought the Biba cream spotted blouse and, whilst I was at it, I got tempted by the dress (156569)! I have to say, QVC fashion has really come on leaps and bounds in the last couple of years. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. There was already too much to tempt me with!!

      Hi Marion
I’m glad you got the Biba blouse – every time I wear it (and I mean every time) I get compliments on it. I didn’t get the T shirt cos I forgot to order and then went to Debs Flint’s book launch party.
I agree about our fashion by the way.
I didn’t need to curtesy, just a dip of the head and a handshake. We had a nice chat actually – pictures on my blog this week.
