Where Did Autumn Go?

How lovely has the early part of this week been? After a rainy Saturday in Southampton for the Rotary International conference that I was asked to speak at, it was lovely to spend a few days out in the garden getting things a bit tidier for the winter. This involved me using my garden vacuum/blower, purchased from QVC but not currently in stock, for the first time and I must say it was certainly quicker than sweeping and gathering the leaves by hand.

We also took advantage of the fine weather to apply two coats of undercoat to the skirting boards before they are fixed in place in our new extension. They will have to be glossed in situ but I didn’t want to risk applying three coats of paint, having had the wood floor laid, in case it got spilled. The wood floor itself had to have an extra coat of protection, which was tricky as it has an eight to ten hour drying time – that was mine and Chris’s final job before bed on Tuesday night, with a disgruntled Wilfie meowing in the conservatory (where he sleeps at night), because people were still up when they should have been in bed! The kitchen fitters are coming this afternoon to finally fit the plinths and then we just need to decide on the splashback behind the range cooker. I keep saying it’s nearly finished, and it is, but didn’t want to keep you hanging any longer for photos.

The dining table arrived today, apparently minus instructions and missing two screws, but I have yet to order chairs – I was wondering about red velvet… thoughts?

Thank you for making our newest presenter, Kathryn Goldsmith, so welcome. I really enjoyed presenting Fashion on Friday on the Style Channel at 6pm with her last week and she has had several ‘solo’ shows since then. My mum is always very honest with her opinions and rang me to say how good she thought she was – high praise indeed! All my shows today are on the Style Channel as we have a foody event on the main channel with lots of meaty offerings, so not great for a veggie. If you love your meat though, do check out this meat hamper, 808270, as apparently there are no plans for a meat hamper Christmas TSV.

Speaking of the Style Channel, yesterday we launched this years’s Poppy Collection. Since we began the association with the Royal British Legion in 2010, you have helped us to raise £1.7 million. This year we are hoping to add another £100,000 to that total, particularly pertinent as it is the centenary of the end of World War 1 this November. Buckley have done a centenary commemorative brooch, available in gold or silver tone, and it was really popular on yesterday’s show.

I always buy something from the Poppy Collection; last year it was the Kipling umbrella, which is still available.

This year I am going to go for the Lola Rose shopping bag, although I’m also admiring the One Button Resin Brooch and a couple of the bracelets.

If you want to see more from the collection, join me next Friday at 3pm on the main channel, and in case you don’t know, a third of the purchase price from each item goes to the charity.

Christmas on QVC is now in full swing and we have some more brilliant offerings for you this coming weekend – remember, all Christmas gifts now come with the extended money-back guarantee to the 25th January. Along with the Amazon Fire Tablet TSV tomorrow, and the Tarte TSV on Sunday, we also have a two-hour Butler & Wilson show at 6pm on Sunday with lots of festive sparkle.

Then, on Monday, the Gift of Gorgeous Skin shows from Elemis start – I’m with Keeley on Wednesday at 5pm. There is also a fragrance TSV from Shay & Blue to look out for on Thursday.

So, we were unable to announce the winner of my mega competition on last week’s blog, as the original person announced on air on our birthday had not responded to our emails. To be fair to all, and in excess of the Ts & Cs on our website, we waited until yesterday to redraw and I’m delighted to say the new winner, Terri Bloomfield, responded immediately and is over the moon. Congratulations Terri!

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend (maybe watching a bit of Strictly!)
Much love,
Julia xx

      Hi Anne,
I think Kathryn has settled in really well and we had a nice rapport.
So, not going for red after all as the glass splashback behind the cooker is going to be a magenta/purple colour – it’s being fitted today, very exciting

      Hi Sandy,
He can be a bit of a baby sometimes, despite his size!
We are going to keep it neutral (probably silver or grey as we have chosen a magenta/purple cooker splashback.
It is a lovely space – so pleased we have done it.

    Hi Julia,
Love your new rooms, I think mint green velvet or duck egg blue would look lovely for your chairs.
My daughter is a case worker for British Legion and they do tremendous work. I always give to them or buy things.
All best wishes to you. Love Sally

      Hi Sally
The British Legion do a fantastic job – well done to your daughter.
We have decided to stick with a shade of grey for the chairs I think

Hi Julia what an amazing and beautiful kitchen and garden room. May I ask what colour glazing did you put on the back wall is it black or dark gray. Exactly what I am looking for.

      Hi Tina
I am so thrilled with the final result – worth all the disruption!
The doors are a very dark grey – anthracite I think it was called. I like it better than black.

Hi Julia Congratulations being with QVC for 25 years. I love your blog and recipes. Can I request your chocolate cake recipe as I would love to try and bake a birthday cake.

      Hi Michele,
Thanks for the congratulations- very lucky to have been in a job I love for so long.
I think I’ve put the chocolate birthday cake on a previous blog (maybe twice) if you feel like looking back through old ones. I made sticky toffee pudding last Saturday so perhaps I’ll put that on this week’s blog.

      Hi Therese
Well, I am going for colour but not in the chairs. We are having a magenta/purple cooker splashback fitted today – there’s a hint of that in the Tiffany lamp too – so will probably have grey chairs.

      Hi Loraine
I’m not going to lie, it hasn’t been the best health year for me in 2018 – I’ve had more hospital appointments this year than when I was first diagnosed with leukaemia! I’m just back from one this morning. STILL, I’m a lot healthier than some and both my knee and tooth are doing fine, thanks.
I’m a lucky girl to have led such a varied and busy life and trust me I appreciate it.
Thanks for alerting me to the fact that our live Twitter feed no longer shows on our blog page. It’s the same for all the presenters so I guess it must be a QVC corporate decision for some reason. You can still follow me on Twitter if you choose @JuliaRobertsTV
