When should we put up our decorations?

Last year's Christmas treeI don't know if you're like me but no sooner have you got your Christmas decorations up and are enjoying all their festive glory but it's time to take them down again and put them back in the loft! I want to put mine up this weekend but it's only just December on Sunday… is that too early?

We have got some new Bethlehem Lights garlands and a wreath and I am really looking forward to making the house look festive this year. The great thing about the faux tree and wreaths etc is that they don't need watering and won't die so I figure we can maximise the time they are up.

Are there any rules of conventions? Advent starts on the 1st December so surely we can put them up then??!

I always used to insist not before Christmas eve, when the children were young.
I am not sure why I was so cruel now that they have left home!
I think it was too make Christmas special at the time.
It now goes up as soon as the clocks go back for winter and stays up until march
Of course it is not a real one, but a small tree with golden
birds and lights (QVC purchase of course)
I find once the dark nights draw in it cheers me up.
My mother insists it is unlucky to keep any decorations up after
    a certain date in January.

Mine went up on the 1st but a few bulbs were required for the tree…. But now we are running at full force ( and probably depleting the national grid!)
