What makes you smile?

Hi everyone,

As I write this blog there is a literal gale blowing outside (March winds arriving early I reckon!), but hopefully the good old British weather isn’t quite enough to dampen our spirits and stop us smiling!

Smiling is contagious, and so is laughter!

Last night I caught up with a friend and at one point she was about to tell me something, and then went into fits of laughter! I simply had to join in! I had no idea what she was laughing about – and for a good five minutes or so – but the pair of us were in hysterics. (I’m sure other people in the restaurant wouldn’t have believed the drinks consisted only of two cappuccinos and a large bottle of water!)

I have to say it must have been a sight to behold and, when she eventually did calm down and tell me what she was in fits about, it wasn’t really all that funny… and guess what? Yes! That made us laugh all the more!

I’m actually ‘laughing out loud’ now as I think about it!

So what’s my point? Well, we don’t actually need a concrete reason to smile or laugh (OK, it helps, and I’m not suggesting for one moment that you swan about in public in giggling hysterics – that could have potentially serious consequences!), but it is great when you do have a really good doubled-over-can’t-speak-tears-streaming kind of thing. I reckon it does us the power of good! There’s just something about it that you feel so much better once you’ve had a good laugh. The ‘powers that be’ also reckon it’s good for us as that’s when we engage all the feel good happy healthy hormones!

So what makes you smile, giggle, laugh etc? What about films and TV? (I remember falling about the living room floor as a teenager whilst watching ‘Fawlty Towers’).
Even better, do you have a friend or family member that regularly sets you off?

My boys all have very different but excellent senses of humour, so I know that at a get-together I’m always guaranteed a giggle!

Well, after our fashion event last week I have lots to smile about, as I did indulge a tad.

I have fallen in love with the Coco Bianco range (but then if you watched the last show, you probably gathered that!). I treated myself to theseย palazzo trousers and a beautiful top!

Well, reasons to smile in the next few days? Pancake Tuesday is an excellent one! Love it (then I really must try and lose a few pounds!)!

If you’re stuck in a pancake rut, we’ve got a fab recipe blog from our lovely prep kitchen head, Jo. Jo whips up the delicious meals you see on-air and online – trust me, they really are as delicious as they look! I love that she’s mentioned some savoury dishes in there too, proves how tasty a simple pancake can be! What’s your favourite filling?

Also a brand new Today’s Special Value from Bioscience next Monday 6th March! If you’re not familiar with them, they are very big on anti aging in skincare.

But a little tip… if as they say, you use more muscles to frown than to smile. Then let’s get grinning!

Happy days all round!

Catch up soon,
Anne xx

    Hi Anne,
What a lovely blog! I’m glad I’m not the only one that laughs because other people are laughing. I think it’s so important to laugh or smile every single day. I am coming to the end of recovering from a serious illness (surgery & treatment done & new head of hair- hooray) & even on terrible days I tried my best to smile or laugh. I think it is a great stress buster & is much nicer than crying although sometimes I do have tears streaming down my face laughing. Peter Kay always makes me chuckle but then so do your quick witted remarks & humour lol.
I do hope you can help me Anne; I’ve currently on the Body Rescue Plan & have just bought the maintenance book for later use. So lovely to see YOUR photo & story in there & you mention a scone recipe but I can’t find it anywhere. (I’m not on Twitter/Facebook so if it’s been on there I can’t get it)
I do hope you can let me know where to find it & thanks for your great presenting & entertainment.
    Stay warm
    Love Mandy xx

    Hi Mandy,
What a lovely response!! I couldn’t agree with you more!!
Gosh you sound like you’ve been through the mill but great news that you’re coming out the other side. Well done for going on the Body Rescue Plan. I’m afraid I need to hunt out that recipe as I don’t have it to hand…….I’m sure Christianne from BR gave it to me so it may be worth emailing her? If I do come across it I’ll put it on a blog…….so keep watching.
Stay healthy Mandy and good luck!! Xx

    Hi Helen,
Yes there’s nothing quite like an infectious laugh to get us all going!! At the hairdressers that I go to there’s a stylist with the craziest loudest laugh ever!! It’s hysterical….she has us all in fits and we’ve no idea what she’s even laughing about!!
Good to hear from you. Take care xx
