What happened to spring?

Last weekend we put the clocks forward so that it is officially British Summertime and for once it actually is! What is going on with the weather, and what happened to spring?

Looking at the weather forecast though it doesn't look set to last beyond the weekend and apparently some of us may even have snow at Easter! Let's hope this week wasn't the entire British Summer, just a taster of things to come.

Even before we put the clocks forward we had some pretty nice days. I managed to nip up to Nottingham to see my Mum last week, as I had missed her on Mother's Day, and it was so warm in her conservatory, with the sun streaming in, that we had to evacuate to the lounge to cool down a bit. I had taken her a tin of chocolate chip cookies, sadly not home baked, and some Elemis and Liz Earle goodies.

I also handed her the first fifty chapters of my book. It's the first time I have seen the words printed on paper rather than the computer screen and she is the first person to read it other than the odd chapters I've read out to Chris and the children. I really hope she likes it, although I don't know how far she will have got with it as the lens fell out of her reading glasses the following day. I hope that's not a bad omen?!

I am busy writing the final few chapters in my time off that I had to take before the end of March. What is it they say? 'Use it or lose it'… or is that an exercise mantra??

I am back 'on air' on Tuesday evening so hopefully see you then, much love Julia x

    Hi Julia
Its not like you not to have home baked the choccie chip cookies but i bet your lovely mum loved all her pressies especially the LE and Elemis goodies.I hope you left your mum with tissues when you gave her the first part of your book to read over – i bet it will bring back many memories and achievements she had put to the back of her mind – lets hope the pages are not too wet when you get it back ehxx Glasgow has been very sunny the last few days(probably our summer i suspect)and i know what you mean re “what happened to spring” – i visited our local garden centre on Tuesday to see what was on offer so as i could plan my hanging baskets and pots – well i was surprised by the choice and did buy a few things to grow on – Richard Jackson has been really helpful(from advice via his tsv’s and shows) and i’ve also bought bits and pieces from QVC too,all my buys are growing on at the moment, hopefully when stronger and well established i’ll have some lovely colour and fragrance around the place. Have you been doing any gardening as i know you really enjoy pottering? I’m looking forward to the Gatineau tsv tonight and the Elemis tsv on 29 April also beauty month in June(i’m such a beauty and skincare junkie – but love the addictionx)i’m still loving my Emma Hardie and love the mix of her eye serum with the Elemis pro-intense cream(are you still enjoying it too?)- i’ve been using my Ultrasun and Elemis Liquid Layer religiously this week(infact i use my Elemis Liquid layer everyday of the year) Ali Y would be proud of me – like you i enjoy the sun,i just dont overdue it and always use factor 50 on my body and ELL factor 30 on my face.I’ve been on a healthy eating couple of weeks – minimum sugar, fat and salt and snacking on carrot sticks and fruit – i found it hard the first couple of days but my skin is showing the better for it so i’m pleased and my jeans are feeling a little more comfortable so that cant be bad eh? I’ve stopped all red meat in my diet and only eat fish, chicken, cheese, nuts and pulses as my protein source i’m feeling the better for it too all i’ll say is “digestion wise” i think you’ll get the drift from that!!Things on the footballing front are still dire but there are little chinks of hope shining through – wasn’t it great when Fabrice Muamba pulled through from his heart attack? i believe they said his heart had stopped beating for around 30 or so minutes being in the medical field myself(physicology)him surviving is nothing short of a miracle especially with no brain damage,he was so lucky that there was a cardioligist who worked at the chest hospital in the crowd as well as a defribulator with the medical guys associated with the teams – i wish him well for a full and healthy recovery. I’m looking forward to Renee and Antthony bringing there fashion back to QVCUK in the next few weeks – i’m wearing one of Antthonys tops today – its white with a gigantic flower to the side and it looks great with leggings – so cool and summery – well i had better get the use of my summery things while the going is good ehxx Lovely to speak to you again. Look after yourself Juliax love Linda,Glasgow

The weather has been brilliant Julia – even in Scotland!! As you say – epecially up here – no doubt it’ll snow next week. We can have the four seasons in one day at times!
I think I’m being forgetful here because you have spoken about it before but what is your book actually about? Sorry if thats a daft question!
Hopefully the weather stays ok for the football tomorrow. Im off to Motherwell. They are just behind us in the League at present so it could be a tough one. Hopefully we can carry on our form from last week. Who do the mighty Eagles play?
Have a great weekend and enjoy the rest of your time ‘off’ writing your book

    Hi Julia,
Yes the weather has been gorgeous, rather hot for the time of year, but then the seasons seem to be all over the place dont they. We have had this sort of weather in March before, lets hope it comes back through the Summer. It always seems to change when the children break up for their holidays, it is a shame. All the birds are busy making their nests, when I have groomed my Border Collie I put his hair out in a feeder and the blue tits are queing up to take the hair for their nests as it is so soft, I cannot keep up with them, it is lovely to see though. I expect your Mum liked all her goodies, no doubt she is busy reading your book, you have done well on it havent you. I expect you will be glad when it is all finished. You mentioned the lense falling out of your Mum’s glasses, I was working away on the computer the other day and this happened to me. Hope you have a great restful weekend.
    Love Jean X

    Hi Julia
Glad to hear that you are near finishing your book, when will it be out and can we buy it on Amazon? I think the weather is changing everywhere, last week we had a few hot days that it was like July not March. Then yesterday we had rain in the morning, mad wind in the afternoon and cold, we had to put the fire on, but then at 7.00pm the sun came out and it was hot again. But we have been told that we will have a very wet Easter week. Here we do miss the Spring sometimes, as it could get from Winter to summer over night. Look forward to have you back on QVC.
    Much love.

    Hi Julia
We have indeed had a fabulous week weather wise. I managed to slope off work early on Monday afternoon and enjoy a bit of time lapping up the sunshine (with my Ultrasun on of course!)
I always end up with loads of holidays left in March but have to really use them by the middle as the last two weeks are usually pretty manic with year end processes.
So you’ve been down the road from me in Nottingham eh? Glad you had chance to see your Mum and enjoy a well earned rest. Sounds like the book is nearly there then ….. or maybe THERE by the time you read this comment. Very exciting!
How gorgeous is that Elemis body cream???!!!!! OMG, it’s ‘to die for’! Really looking forward to the TSV on 29th, especially to try the new eye serum! Have you gone onto Bliss Caps full time yet?!!!
Have a lovely Easter if we don’t ‘speak’ before then.

    Hi Julia
It must be so exciting to see your book in pages rather than on your computer screen, you can see something tangible for all your hard work. I’ve always wanted to write a book since being at school. I think it will have to wait until I take early retirement. Although I would prefer to call it the next stage in life!
PS: I cannot wait to read your book I’m sure you will have some serious and funny tales to tell.
What happened to Palace on Saturday? Even Torres scored I had to have a lie down as I was in shock LOL.
Am looking forward to the Bibi Bijoux TSV (hope it’s not too expensive and my fave Kipling is back, just cannot resist these bags and as long as you take the monkey off you can wash in the washing machine. They come up like new.
So silly season is nearly upon us with DOI finished (loved them all but knew Matthew would win and I know you were a Jorgie fan) nothing much to watch, oh well time to catch up on the DVD’s I haven’t seen.
Look forward to seeing you back on the Q.
    love Joyxx

    Hi Julia
Looking forward to seeing you back later after your break…I think my previous comments have gone missing again, QVC gremlins, although I think you’ve probably had a mountain of comments and emails to go though on you return. Don’t worry, I won’t put it all down again!
I notice that you will being doing some crafting with Stephanie Weightman at 8.00pm on Thursday, she is a fantastic artist in her own right and hope we get to see some of that too. Maybe, it’s me but I’ve always thought that she has similar features to Suzi Perry from the gadget show, I think it’s round the eyes and hair as well or maybe I’m seeing things?
Hope you have a good night tonight.

    Hi Steven
You were right about the snow!!!!! – be careful what you wish for springs to mind!
The book is a sort of autobiography with a twist. It is called ‘One Hundred Lengths of the Pool’ – inspired by what I think about when I swim a hundred lengths of my pool. Just three more full chapters to write – although some others need tweaking a bit – so hopefully not too much longer before it’s in print.
Palace played Forest at home last Saturday and managed to lose 3 – 0 so our play off chances are more or less scuppered now. We have Birmingham away and leaders Southampton over Easter …… easy six points for us the LOL!
Hope your winning run continued and that matters off the pitch will resolve soon too

    Hi Jean
The weather has well and truly changed again hasn’t it? It’s funny you mentioning grooming your border collie and the birds using the fur for their nests. We did something similar with Poppy – how can so much hair come off such a small animal??
Mum finished the first fifty chapters and says she enjoyed it – obviously a lot of it brings back memories for her too! Not far to go now …………. what will I do with all my spare time when it’s finished??!!??!!

    Hi Magda
Once the book is in print I will be able to let you know how to get hold of a copy – hopefully not too long now – I so hope you will enjoy it!
The weather was pretty kind to me in Spain – only Saturday was a bit cloudy, but at least it meant I got a bit more work done. Delays at the airport in both directions though, which is quite unusual.
    Good to be back

    Hi Marian
Not quite ‘there’ yet with the book, but the end is in sight.
I was given a sample of the Elemis TSV yesterday, so I will try our the new eye serum over this coming weekend. I am launching it with Keeley on the 29th so looking forward to that.
No time off planned now until July – we need all hands on deck for the studio move to Chiswick, as we will need to do some rehearsing from there as well as still broadcasting live ….. a ‘lively’ and busy two months methinks!

    Hi Joy
Firstly congratulations to Chelsea for making it through to the semi’s of the Champions League, although I have to say the bit I saw of the match last night was pretty poor!! You are naughty – poor Torres! He was in my fantasy team when he was at Liverpool – I think he should have stayed there.
It was great to finally see the first half of my book printed out – I am actually starting to feel a little nervous and excited about the finished article. I have another couple of ideas up my sleeve for follow up books before moving into novel writing – I can dream can’t I??
Matthew was good but Jorgie was better …… in my opinion!
    Happy DVD and QVC watching

    Hi Diane
I hope the foot operation went OK yesterday. My, what a time you are having of it!
It’s difficult to recommend products as we are all so different but at the moment I am using Elemis Pro Intense at night and either Emma Hardie or Decleor Gel / cream in the morning. I am getting quite good results. There is a new Elemis eye serum in the TSV at the end of April which I am going to test for the next couple of weeks – I’ll let you know how I get on.
Hope Dave is doing well and driving you around ( not the bend!!!!!)

    Hi Julia
Must be seeing things…maybe it’s the tablets LOL!
Hopefully, this will make you laugh, it had the Dr in stitches! I had received a letter to book the neck X-Ray, but when I read the letter, I thought that I had better check with the Dr first. I gave her the letter and said I hadn’t made the appointment yet because I wanted to make sure it was for the right end…it said cervical spine! She started laughing and pointed out the area on the poster on the wall. Its the top of the neck and she said she could see where I was coming from and that nobody had asked her the question before…typical me, but I’d never heard of it and thought it best to ask the question! It was nice leaving with a smile on my face for once!!

    Hi Linda
Crikey that was a long post!!!! There we were talking about summer and you guys have had snow up in Scotland this week – what is going on with the weather? I hope you didn’t get too excited and plant any of your plants out!!
Did you get the Gatineau TSV? I was away so didn’t see it but I have already got my hands on the Elemis TSV for the 29th April. It has my favourite Elemis cleansing product in it, Melting Cleansing Gel, and also a new eye product, so although I have been enjoying the results of the Pro Intense and the Emma Hardie eye, I will be giving the new Elemis product a go this weekend, after I have patch tested of course.
Yes it was very good news to hear about the incredible recovery of Muamba – and brilliant the way everyone rallied round regardless of their team allegiance.
Keep up the good work with your healthy eating programme.

Me again! So shocked to hear about Thomas Kinkade…Chris took me to one of his galleries and we bought a small framed print, his artwork was amazing, such a talent and so young at 54! So, so sad.
