What a week!

Julia with Gareth Thomas for Sandy Bay candlesIt was lovely to meet former rugby star Gareth Thomas at QVC this week. He came in as a guest for the new range of candles called Sandy Bay that we premiered on Tuesday. I hope you were able to drag yourselves away from watching the Olympics to catch a bit of the show!

I don't watch a lot of rugby as my preferred sport is football, but I did see a bit of Gareth on Celebrity Big Brother a few months ago. He came across as something of a 'gentle giant' and I actually thought he would win the show but he was pipped to the post by Denise Welch. He was just as lovely in real life as he appeared on BB and I think he enjoyed his QVC debut.

If you missed the show check out the range here: Sandy Bay. I think you will love the unusual blends that the founder Sandy has come up with and also the overall quality of the candles.

It has been another week dominated by the fantastic athletes competing for Team GB at the Games. I don't know about you but I've been watching and enjoying sports I never knew existed! There have been occasions during the week when we QVC Presenters have had to miss events that we are particularly interested in because of work commitments. I would love to have witnessed the Usain Bolt 200 metre final last night but missed it as I was on air.

The funniest incident though was Ali Young earlier in the week racing into the building to watch the British Equestrian team in their showjumping jump off. She found the channel on the television in her dressing room, but there was no sound. Not prepared to watch it without commentary she phoned her home and listened to it down the phoneline whilst watching at QVC. Very resourceful. She was hilarious in her support of our team whilst willing the competition to knock a few fences down. Thankfully Team GB got the gold so was a very happy bunny on air!

If you are wondering what to do with your time when the Olympics is over this weekend, we have a great week ahead on QVC including the Butler & Wilson 17th Anniversary shows for his jewellery, and 12th anniversary shows for Butler & Wilson World. His first show is on Tuesday and I'm looking forward to seeing him and his latest stunning creations on Thursday.

Have a great weekend,
Much love Julia xx

    Hi Julia,
Unfortunately I missed the candle show, maybe catch it next time. I can imagine Alison watching the showjumping, we did very well with that, I loved watching the Dressage, such a skill from horse and rider. Makes me think of my horse Thomas who I lost coming up to three years ago, someone went in his field with a dog and chased him, he took off and damaged one of his front legs so badly I had to have him destroyed within a couple of days. It broke my heart and I miss him so much, he was my best friend and everyone’s ideal horse. I am glad Tom Daley got his medal he wanted to do it for his dad. We did very well in the end with regards to medals didnt we, they did us proud. Looking forward to watching Simon’s shows, love his jewellery and accessories. What has happened to the weather, where has the summer gone?
    Love Jean X

    Hello Jean
Sorry it has taken me a while to reply but as I said in my latest bog I have had a bit of a house full with visiting parents!
I was so sad to hear about your horse – why do people have to be so thoughtless and sometimes downright unkind?!
I also was very pleased for Tom Daley particularly after all the nastiness he had to cope with – a real star!
Hope you enjoyed all the Simon shows?
We had a bit more summer over last weekend but it seems to have disappeared again now. Maybe we’ll get an Indian summer?

    Hello Rhodd,
I don’t mind you asking. It is from Ted Baker and it was earlier this summer so they may still have them.
    Good luck

    Hi Julia,
I heard you saying yesterday that you use Aromessence Solaire Face throughout the summer. What about the body one? Can that be used alongside Ultrasun? Could it be used on top of it? Not having your lovely skin tone I need all the help I can get in the sun and I am going away next month so thought it may be worth a try.

    Hello Jess
I haven’t actually used the body one but funnily enough Fiona and I were discussing it prior to coming on air with one of our floor managers who is going on his hols.
Her recommendation was to use it once a day under your normal body moisturiser for 2 to 3 weeks before you go away and then use it in the evening after you have showered under your body moisturiser. You will then need to shower again in the morning so that your Ultrasun will bond properly with your skin.
Hope this delivers a lovely golden tan for you and that you enjoy your hols
