We Like Choc and Cheese

8

I know the saying is ‘as different as chalk and cheese’ but I thought it would be a good title for this week’s blog considering the Valentine’s Day gifts that Chris and I bought for each other. It’s okay to like different things, in fact that is probably one of the reasons that Chris and I are still together after forty-one years. We have lots in common, but we don’t always agree on everything. I was treated to a bouquet of beautiful purple flowers, far better for me than red roses, and some dark chocolate truffles, while I bought Chris some white chocolate strawberry-flavoured hearts, which I will definitely NOT be sharing! I may be tempted to have a little taste of the Snowdonia cheeses I bought him from QVC though. We had some at Christmas and they are absolutely delicious – something we definitely agree on!

We had a quiet dinner in, once I was home from work at QVC, and I don’t know if our daughter was planning on a romantic dinner out with Reece but that didn’t happen because she has come down with the flu. According to the doctor, it’s a really nasty strain this year, with people being off work for up to two weeks. It may seem selfish, but I am staying well away from her until she is no longer contagious as I haven’t got time to be ill. I have been offering support and advice on What’s App though – stay warm with lots of rest and lots of fluids. I hope you guys manage to avoid it.

The reason I haven’t got time to be ill is because I heard from my publishers that the publication date for my first novel with them has been brought forward from the end of July to the middle of June, which means it will be available for pre-order next month. I had a mild panic, as I thought it might affect the date that the first draft for the second book in the series was needed. It’s due at the end of April and I’m going to need that time to deliver it as it’s still in the early stages of being written. Fortunately, the delivery date can stay the same, as although publication for book two has moved from the end of November to 22nd October, Bookouture have faith that the edits can be completed on time… phew! You see what I mean when I say I haven’t got time to be ill!

If you have been poorly, it may well have affected your skin, so it’s good to know that Keeley from Elemis is back in the country this weekend with lots of fabulous products to nourish your skin and a brilliant TSV. A couple of months ago, Keeley suggested that I should try Pro-Definition Face Oil, as my sixty-two year old skin suffers more from slackness than it does from lines and wrinkles. I have been loving the oil and also the Pro-Definition day cream, which is in the TSV along with the night cream, oil cleanser and a fabulous new serum for face and neck. It’s already available for pre-order, and there is an auto delivery option too. I would highly recommend if, like me, you’re more concerned with slackness rather than wrinkles.

I’ll be with Keeley at 5pm on Sunday, which does mean I will miss the second half of the Doncaster Rovers v Crystal Palace game in the fifth round of the FA Cup – I’m hoping we may be a couple of goals to the good before I go on air. Good luck to your team if they are still in the competition.

The other TSV to mention this weekend is from Ruth Langsford as we continue to celebrate Fashion Week. We are talking jeans in a really nice quality denim, with a choice of three colours and also three lengths, in sizes 8 – 22. I’m a petite inseam at 28.5 inches, but check out the regular and tall options too. My show with Ruth is at 5pm so stock may be a bit depleted by then.

I should also draw your attention to the fact that Simon Wilson is back on air next week with a couple of sparkling Butler & Wilson shows. I’m with him on Tuesday at 6pm and I think he is on with my roomie Katy Pullinger for a two-hour show on Wednesday at 6pm.

Talking of sparkles, did you know Diamonique is celebrating its 25th Anniversary on QVC UK this year? To mark the occasion, four of us, Charlie, Ali K, Dale and myself have been asked to design pieces. It’s top secret for now, but watch this space later in the year.

Well, it’s time for me to get in the shower before heading into QVC for a double helping of Fashion on Friday with Glen Campbell… 5pm on the main channel and 6pm on QVC Style. As usual, I will drive into work with wet hair and dry it with my Dyson hairdryer when I get there. I absolutely LOVE the Dyson hairdryer and if you don’t have one yet but have been thinking about it, there is a new dryer and storage box combo launching on air tonight during the 9pm show with Jackie Kabler. It’s the black dryer with a limited edition black box and is available on 4 easy pays on our website already

Just a thought, but if you did treat yourself to this and the Elemis TSV you would immediately qualify for a £35 voucher to redeem against a purchase of £100 or more between 6th and 19th of March. There are full terms and conditions of our first voucher offer of 2019 on our website, but a heads up that the end date to qualify is 3rd of March at midnight.

Stay well, enjoy the sunshine that’s been promised this weekend and do join me for some of the hours I’ve mentioned above.

Much love,
Julia xx

Hi Julia, hope your daughter is better soon. I can vouch for it being a really nasty virus this year – slowly recovering from my first bout of flu ever. Don’t think I’ve ever felt so poorly. I had nearly two weeks off work and haven’t really felt right being back this week. Hoping I can shake off the last of the cough and tiredness this weekend. Looking forward to the Elemis tsv – my skin definitely needs a treat!

      Hi Cherry
Apologies for not replying sooner but hopefully that means you are now 100% well? My daughter is also well again but it was really a nasty one!
Hope you got and are enjoying the Elemis TSV – my skin has been loving it

    Hi Julia,
Glad to hear you had a nice romantic Valentines Day. We went to our usual favourite place ( Porthcawl) for lunch. It was a beautiful day. Even though the sun was out and the sky was blue, the wind was quite ” biting”. I’m not complaining though as we had a lovely time. These days we prefer going out on a lunch time than the evening. Must be an age thing! There were lots of people out enjoying the sunshine. I bought a shirt and tie set for hubby but unfortunately had to return it as I didn’t look at the sizing properly. Still the thought was there. He bought me a Betty Boop figurine dressed as a nurse (as I was once a nurse of course). It was so sad to see all the flowers reduced today when I went to my usual supermarket. It has become so commercialised along with everything else I suppose.
Well I don’t know what we will do with ourselves this weekend as there’s no rugby till next week! Will have to see what’s on the box instead. Hope there’s something on QVC.
All the best, take care – Tina S. x

      Hi Tina
So sorry to take so long to reply – things are crazy busy at the moment but no change there.
Glad you enjoyed your lunch in Porthcawl – that was the week before the crazy warm temperatures wasn’t it?
So, there is certainly rugby on this weekend – I’m saying nothing, but I think you and I will be cheering for different teams!
      Speak soon

Friday 15th Feb – I switched on, – (husband came home early and disrupted my routine) to, I think, Fashion on Friday and you were wearing a lovely mustard/gold/yellow floral dress, with short sleeves, looked not too long on you, as I have shrunk to 5ft now that attracted me, as much as the colours, but the best thing was the floral pattern which was placed diagonally on the dress. I’ve watched replays, but none had you wearing this dress. Please- is this dress available on QVC? I adore the colour, love the diagonal striped floral pattern, the sleeves and the length. (I am 72 now, but still think I am in my 20’s). I live in rural Ireland,. As my husband is in UK at the moment I will prepare an early dinner for me, feed the cats and dogs, and sit myself down, not to be interrupted by anyone, and will hope you can me the answer to my problem.

      Hi Margaret
Apologies it has taken me so long to get back to you. The dress was by Nina Leonard but I think my colour sold out – it also came in navy if I remember correctly.
Great to hear you are a young at heart 72 – I’m a young at heart 62!
      Love
      Julia
