Welcoming in the summer sun!

Hope you’ve been enjoying the gorgeous weather the last few weeks – I appreciate it hasn’t been all sunshine and Ultrasun for every single one of us across the rest of the UK.

It’s been weird, because being away from my Birmingham means I’ve escaped the showers. Instead, I’ve been basking in hot sun most of the time in London.

It’s great to finally see some good weather because when the sun shines it makes me feel as if I can take on the day ahead better. Do you feel like that?

I noticed on the news the other week that Prince Charles took a trip back to the Somerset Levels. Remember how devastated the area was by the floods at the start of the year? Lots of the TV news broadcasts contrasted the pictures of when the Prince was taken down one road by boat, and then they showed how it was virtually back to normal and people were able to get back into their homes and operate their businesses again.

Sometimes I wonder how people cope with such adversity and are able to carry on. Take a look at this article which has some fabulous pictures in it.

This week, Austen and I trotted out to Kew the Music, an open-air concert within the grounds of Kew Gardens to watch Elvis Costello do an acoustic set of his music. It was hot, sunny, and great – we took out fold-up chairs, a small picnic and some wine. It was packed out too and lovely to see Elvis perform live for the first time ever. I remember him well from my childhood days when he was in the music charts every five minutes with catchy tunes like ‘Watching the Detectives’ and ‘I Don’t Want to go to Chelsea’!

    Hi Marv,
I hope you’re enjoying ‘Christmas in July’!
We usually go to Ian’s family for Christmas but at some point, I can see us maybe going away (in a few years’ time). In the past, my sister has been over in Australia at Christmas and that must be like being here at the moment – hot and sunny!
I am a Royalist and I am delighted that Prince Charles has received recognition for the work he did in highlighting people’s plight with the floods. To read in the article of residents openly thanking him for his help is refreshing as I always feel he gets told off when he intervenes in things.
My brother, who’s in his late 40s, bought Elvis Costello ‘Oliver’s Army’ as his first single! He played it to me and at the time, I had no idea what the words were! Great to hear you both enjoyed the concert – I always think he looks so smart and dapper too, he really hasn’t changed very much..
I can’t say I am great in this heat but what I do absolutely love about Summer is the long days. Last night we had a lovely meal on the patio and finished it off with yummy ice-cream – bliss!
You take care – keep having fun!

Hi Marv, loved watching your first Charlie Bears, I am an avid collector and am lucky enough to have a bear named after me called Bit Bot! My nickname, a name suggestion for your bear could be Conkers in memory of your beautiful boy,
    Much love Sue Wright xx

Hey Beth – yes Elvis C was so famous in his (and our) younger days. It was super fun and he was so modest and humble with it – the audience LOVED LOVED LOVED him!
I do love Prince Charles and the royals – Mum and I got close up to The QUeen once – I have a video somewhere that I took so I will post it up online in the next blog just for you – it was sooooooooo surreal -she has the MOST amazing skin: I reckon she buys premium skincare from QVC to keep her looking so lush! xxx Lolz! Lots of love xxxxxxxx

    Hi Marv,
Yes please to the video of you and your Mum near to the Queen. Thank you! I’ve heard/read before that she has the most beautiful skin – speaking of which, whenever I see you on screen, it’s apparent that you do have beautiful skin.
Hope all is well, Beth XXX
