Well my biggest news this week is that we only went and did it! My team, Crystal Palace, played Watford in the FA cup semi-final last Sunday and we won. It was great to be part of the crowd cheering them on and, as ever, the Palace fans were definitely the twelfth man – they turned our end of the stadium red and blue.
It was a great team performance, as it needs to be in football, but, in my opinion, Zaha and Cabaye were outstanding. Richard Parker, our Skechers guest and a huge Watford fan, tweeted me to say the better team won on the day – very gracious of him, but also accurate. We will be up against Manchester United in the final on the 21st May – a repeat of the FA Cup Final of 1990 when our current manager, Alan Pardew, was in the team. I’m hoping for a different end result this time round.
There were a few famous Palace fans in the crowd, including Eddie Izzard, who was sat a few rows behind us and it was also great to catch up with former player, Andrew Johnson (AJ) and his family, who I haven’t seen in years. What a great day out and a nice touch from Wembley Stadium to colour the arch red and blue after our win.
So, after all the excitement of Sunday, I had to settle down and finish the final couple of chapters of my new book, which are now in the hands of my copy editor. The hard work begins this week and I’m on a very tight deadline if I’m going to publish by the end of May. Keep an eye on my webpage www.juliarobertsbooks.co.uk for more information on when it will be available to pre-order.
You can also leave me messages on there as Carol has done – you said you like my blog Carol so thought I’d say ‘Hi’ on here. How funny that your granddaughter is called Rosie! If you’re wondering what that last comment means, you’ll have to read my books.
Can you believe we are almost in May? Where is the year going? May is Jewellery Month and you can read my extra blog this week here for some of the highlights to look out for. As I mentioned, every week in May there will be a competition on my blog to win a piece of jewellery.
We’re kicking off (do you see what I did there?) with this beautiful Honora message charm bracelet worth approximately £31. It comes in several different colours with different charms and messages, but the one I’m giving away is the violet one with the message ‘Blessed’.
For a chance to win you simply need to answer this question before midnight on Thursday 5th May…
Which kind of pearl do Honora most predominantly use in their jewellery?
a) Simulated pearls
b) Cultured freshwater pearls
c) Natural pearls
All you have to do is leave your answer in a comment on this blog, the winner will then be randomly selected and announced on next week’s blog posted on Friday 6th May. I’ll also be announcing the winner during the first of our new series of Spotlight on Jewellery, next Friday at 6pm.

In today’s Focus on Fashion I wanted to draw your attention to my Fashion on Friday show tonight. It’s Chelsea Muse by Christopher Fink and there are some really lovely pieces, some of which are at event prices – always a bonus. One of my favourites is this wrap front style tunic which is available in black, coral and blue. I’m thinking that might be Julia’s Pick today. There is also this really smart long-line waistcoat, with contrast button detailing on the back, helping to create the illusion of a slimmer waist, and is available in black, white or red.
Both of these two are on event price, but also look out for this sleeveless drapefront top with an asymetric hemline in black or white. These are just my choices, but join me for the show at 5pm or check out other styles on our website.
I also wanted to draw your attention to next Wednesday’s Today’s Special Value from Kim & Co. There is a real buzz at QVC over this one – the first Kim & Co jumpsuit Today’s Special Value. Jumpsuits are very popular at the moment and I think this one will fly. It comes in a choice of two plain colours, black and khaki, or two prints, bamboo strokes and oriental bouquet. It may well be on our website early so check on Tuesday. I particularly like the oriental bouquet which is reminiscent of the print of the first ever patterned top I had from Kim & Co more than fifteen years ago.
I hope you’ve got some great things planned for your Bank Holiday weekend? I’ll be working but I don’t mind as I’ve some fab shows coming up. Tomorrow is Spoil Yourself Saturday and Bank Holiday Monday is our long gardening event called Your Summer Garden – I have 9am starts on both days.
Monday’s Today’s Special Value is a set of super-bright solar lights from Luxform at a great price. I think they look lovely next to the Bernini fountain Today’s Special Value from a couple of weeks ago. If you bought the black version of that, the solar lights also come in a black finish.
Have a great weekend,
