That might be a slight overstatement, but I was certainly very happy after my appointment with the ankle specialist on Monday. Having been led to believe that the deterioration in my ankle as a result of years of wear and tear on my polio-affected leg might just continue to get worse and the best I could hope for was a slowing down of the deterioration, I now have real hope that something can be done to improve things. Initially, I will be wearing an ankle brace, (the one tennis player Andy Murray uses) along with the orthotic insole I already have in preparation for surgery that the specialist believes will be successful. It was also a relief to know that over the years, I have been doing all the right things for my leg by exercising, which I have recently increased again as a result of chatting to a Post Polio Syndrome authority at the Rotary International conference afternoon I hosted in Nottingham back in May.
Interestingly, but not surprisingly, I have lost weight since I’ve been exercising more, but it has been combined with a calorie-controlled diet too. My preferred piece of equipment to exercise on, along with my Aeropilates Performer, is something called the Instride Walker, which we used to sell on QVC. It suits me as I don’t have to move the position of my feet on the plates that swing backwards and forwards, but I nevertheless get a really good aerobic workout. There are also upper body exercises that I perform wearing wrist weights and I’ve had a few comments on Facebook about how good my arms are looking. I find ‘upright rows’ wearing weights are really good for sculpturing the shoulders and top of the arms – swimming backstroke is also really good for this. While I’m on the subject of fitness machines, we have a power plate machine (402458) with resistance bands coming up as the TSV on Monday, so if you are looking to tone up and maybe drop a few pounds you might want to check it out.
I mentioned I have been dieting as well and I’m pleased to report that I am almost at the target weight I set for myself, which meant I needed to drop a stone, and my tummy is a lot flatter than it was. All good news, as it is my final wedding dress fitting on Sunday before it gets carefully packed up into a carry-on case for the flight to Mauritius – it really is coming round very quickly now and I have so much to do over this coming week.
It is my mum’s 93rd birthday on Tuesday so I will definitely be nipping up to Nottingham to see her. She is doing so well, still living independently thanks to an army of wonderful helpers and kind neighbours. She has given me some pretty white feather earrings to wear on Chris and my ‘BIG’ day as she knows how much I like them – who knows, you might be seeing something in Diamonique along similar lines in a month or so as we continue to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the range on QVC.
So, a trip to Nottingham is on the cards, and then it will be head down on the copy edit for my next book. I have now seen the cover – very atmospheric – and I will be able to share it with you all on here next week after it is revealed by my publisher on Thursday when it will also go on pre-order. I also submitted the synopsis for book three in the series to my editor this week and she said, and I quote, ‘OMG, this is so chilling…’ Obviously a lot of work to be done on it over the coming months but it was good to get that initial reaction.
This is my weekend off from QVC and tomorrow I’m going for a pre-wedding spa treat organised by our daughter, Sophie. Just as an aside, her bridesmaid dress, which she had originally wanted in a sea foam colour, is lavender and she looks amazing in it – there will be pictures I promise. We also bought Chris’s suit this week, so that is something else ticked off the list!
After the spa, we are having a few people round to our house for a ‘STEN’ gathering. What is STEN I hear you say? Well, we decided we’re a bit long in the tooth for Stag and Hen do’s so we’re combining them! I hope the weather will be kind as we’re planning a barbecue.
So, I will miss part of the Autumn Fashion two day event, but I will be in later today. I have a MarlaWynne hour at 3 p.m. where we will hopefully still be featuring the TSV – everything on air over the event is on three Easy Pay interest-free instalments so a perfect time to start getting a few things organised for the new season. My Fashion on Friday today is Phase Eight where you also have the benefit of zero P&P. Sadly I’ll be missing Simon Wilson today, as he is on the Style channel at 5 p.m. and when I switch to the Style channel at 6 p.m. for my weekly slot he moves onto the main channel. Still, I can’t complain, as I have two two-hour shows with him (15th and 18th) before I head off on holiday.
The second TSV in the event, already on pre-order, is an ankle boot from Moda in Pelle. There are five fantastic colours with more than a hint of animal about them, the most subtle of which is the Navy. That will launch on air at 9 p.m. tonight and you might want to consider ordering early as I think they are going to be hugely popular.
And then Sunday’s TSV is a 5 piece Firming & Energising Skincare Collection from Decleor. I’m really sad to be missing Fiona for this one but if you want to see what’s included ahead of time, it is already live on our website and if last week’s L’Occitane TSV is anything to go by, lots of you are taking advantage of ordering early.
That’s me done for another week, see you on air on Thursday!
