Twitter tutorial, keeping healthy, and a pancake recipe for Shrove Tuesday

Me pouring teaThis week –

– Healthy eating– healthy lifestyle? What’s your tip?!

– Sneaky peeks – the new Red Carpet Manicure colours!

– A Twitter-tutorial! – Plus – Sally Morgan talk, pin up pics and Richard III programme.

– And the hottest Zumba in town – another chance to see Craig’s shimmying!

What a lovely week I’ve had! Firstly seeing daughter and going for a lovely healthy (mainly veggie) meal last week. There’s been a lot of sickness at QVC, and lots of shuffling around of presenters, and hopefully by the time you read this, Ali Y, Simon, and Catherine will be almost back to normal!I have been helping out cos I’ve been ok – in fact, I’ve a little belief that ‘I never get ill’. Famous last words I know, but it’s a lot to do with avoiding the things that my body’s not fond of (see below).

Jamie'sIn fact, I have got so used to opting for lovely veggies now that when lovely daughter Lauren and I went for lunch in Guildford at Jamie’s Italian Kitchen, it was without hesitation that we ordered this smorgasbord of veggie delights! Corr! I could eat it all over again!

If you’re finding your loved ones are a bit poorly, can I recommend what I’ve been telling lots of people on facebook and Twitter of late –

Manuka honey, Echinacea, green drinks, hot water with lemon (lots of it, as well as water) and high dose EPA fish oils and Vit C!

Me and Lolly

There – Debbie’s little list to help recover from the lurgy! Or avoid it! Lol! Google them for more info! What’s your own best course of action to get yourself well again? Anything passed down from grandma? It’s one I’ll be passing down to my kids when I’m a granny that’s for sure!

Do you have any of your own? Do tell! I certainly know that when I eat rubbish I feel rubbish for sure! Mind you – there are variations of rubbish, aren’t there…

Maybe you’ll be going out for your own meal soon – after all it’s ‘that time of year’! But what is the most important day to you – Valentine’s Day or Pancake Day?! They’re pretty close in the calendar after all – why does one matter more to you? Leave me a comment below to tell me – I’m interested!

Reason is – was having a chat with a good pal at QVC the other day and he said that he hates being ‘told’ to be romantic, on a day that’s just too commercialised! Well! I was quite surprised ‘cos I LOVE a romantic Valentine’s Day! Possibly ‘cos much of the last twelve years since I split with the kids’ dad, I didn’t get to celebrate it with a significant other.

Ironically tho, Mr BOMT will be away on the day this year so maybe it’ll be Leanne Stott’s (our Wintertrax guest) Stand Up Comedy at the Bread & Roses with Clapham Comedy Club (search on 14th – you’ll have to come back to read next week’s blog to find out! Hehe! And if you go somewhere have a nice time – keep me informed!

RecipeBUT one thing I can definitely guarantee is that I’ll be taking advantage of the nice little convenient ‘80/20’ rule I follow which allows ‘realistic’ eating patterns. To that end, I’ll be making macrobiotic pancakes this Shrove Tuesday (12th).

Eating healthily certainly pays dividends, but this is for one of those ‘20’ moments. Marlene’s kindly provided this recipe for me – and you guys! Maybe try it? Unless you have some recipe suggestions of your own for me… : – ) I don’t mind – it doesn’t have to be macro like Marlene’s!

And if you heard me talk about making Sweet Vegetable Tea in the tall multipot TSV the other day, here’s the lovely with a little video tutorial!

-Ps NEWSFLASH – Marlene’s own ‘Weight Loss Nature’s Way’ online course is going to be out in the near future – will keep you informed!

Talking of tutorials, I promised I’d give you a couple of guidelines after several people tweeted me last week that they hadn’t understood what #FF means. Well every Friday, twitter people ( = ‘tweeps’) recommend others to follow – hence ‘Follow Friday’ or #FF. And # or ‘hashtag’ is put in front of a phrase to allow you to search it. Eg #cbb would bring up all the tweets from others using that hashtag to talk about Celebrity Big Brother recently and you can banter with them by including their twitter address eg @debbieflint at the start of your message.

TwitterSome also use the # as a joke sign off eg #AmABat ! (Don’t forget no spaces in between words). But it can be as creative as you like!

And one last thing – on Twitter, the format is often that if you follow someone they can follow you back automatically, (celebs often don’t but lots do, so it’s a good way to build your followers!)

More next week!

BLOOPER – Just couldn’t resist showing you a taster of what our Saturday night show is all about – with a kind of a blooper from last week’s Zumba-fest with my lovely pal Craigy, dancing his heart out with the gang – spot the well-known QVC faces joining in! Susan Graver as you’ve never seen her before! Who else can you spot?

Jeremy– Following on from the recent feature on the ITV series Mr Selfridge and considering how many of you thought the actor is rather a dish, thought I’d give you a double treat!

Here is Jeremy Piven as himself and as his 1920’s ‘ancestor’!

PS – did you know – he was also in both Family Man and Serendipity – two of my favourite films! Good taste or what!

(Thanks to Jane Tye for the Facebook post that inspired this snippet!)

Julie cohen– Talking of drama’s, if you are like me and want to write, see the attached info from one of my writing mentors – Julie Cohen – she’s running her own course for beginners soon in Reading so do sign up if you can!

Contact her via @julie_cohen on twitter, or to book! I’ve been three times – it’s fab!

(click on the pic to enlarge it and read it!)

Book– And for those that keep asking me – I know I’ve been talking about it for over a year now, but my novel is progressing!

Thing is, I’ve also been writing my own first script – I have the nugget of an idea which I’m crafting into a screenplay firstly, and it’ll then become my second novel.

So what does that mean for my FIRST novel?! Well the news is that Hawaiian Affair is going out to my lovely shortlist of Beta Readers in the next week – thanks to everyone who volunteered!

We’re going to keep in touch via facebook and no doubt they’ll keep me informed what they think as they proof it and sanity check it for me – to make sure I haven’t missed anything vital! Before I then put it out to agents etc.

(ps there were one or two of you on here a while back who offered too – let me know if you’re not yet on the facebook list and I’ll see what I can do – even if it’s only the first three chapters.)

Sal and sis– Also went to Celebrity Psychic Sally Morgan’s talk about her life this week in Piccadilly via ‘’ (they do some great talks – check them out!).

Funniest thing – look at the pic of Sally and my sister Linda together – separated at birth or what! Lol! Very insightful talk tho – and I enjoyed Sally’s three books.

Wonder if you’d like to see them being sold here on QVC – would you buy them? Let me know below and you never know what might happen!

Red Carpet

 – QVC sneaky-peeky time again! Talking of my sis, here’s a FIRST glimpse at the actual new colours for her Red Carpet Gel Manicure , Todays Special Value on 18th/19th Feb. Super!

I’ll be wearing the champagne one soon, on air, seen here along with the French.

The three berry colours all come together, in the second option!

 - PS – sneaky secret – and dont miss and amazing RCM competition in next week's blog!

Facebook– And finally in this week’s extended snippets, thought you’d enjoy a pic that is doing the rounds – altogether – ‘bleeeeeesssssss’!

WATCH – Some more Catch Up TV for you this week! First – soooo worth looking up last Friday’s Graham Norton show (1st Feb) – Paul Rudd (swoon!) – was one talking about Now we Are 40 his new film, as was Helen Mirren – talking about Hitchcock. And they did this! You have to go to BBC Iplayer to find out why! Very funny interview – just love Helen Mirren and Lesley Mann too. Well worth a watch!

After the kiss

PLUS – on a totally different note! You know I’m an archaeology geek? (Got an A Level in it at evening class just after I first joined QVC mid 90’s!) Well then you’ll not be surprised that I HAD to watch the intriguing programme about the remains of Richard the III. As the write up goes – ‘when a skeleton was reported found under a Leicester council car park in Sept 2012, the news broke around the world – could it be the remains, lost for 500 yrs, of England’s most infamous king? Whom Shakespeare immortalised as having a hunchback? Well look at the remains they found! Could it be him?

Together with the curved spine and blade marks in the skull, it looked promising! Well this show is about the confirmation that DNA testing of an ancestor showed it is indeed! You just have to watch it – on Ch 4 OD for a short while, so don’t miss it! And top marks to those headline writers who came up with ‘I had a HUNCH’ in the papers too – ho-flippin-ho!

(Click here to Richard III – The King in the car park)

Next week – cinema – should I go see Hitchcock or Now We Are 40?!…

QVC – SHHHH! – SNEAKY PEEK – Hope you watched out for last week’s insider secret – the Gatineau One Time Only pack last Tuesday night! Here’s another Sneaky Peek for you – the upcoming Laura Geller new ‘wine bottle packaged’ TSV coming on – a tantalising glimpse here – it’s the new packaging for her 6 piece Beauty of the Vine collection. Put the date in your diary – 23rd Feb! I’ll be away on hols in LA that week but it’ll be very popular I know it!

Laura GellerQVC – WEEK AHEAD – Finally – highlights from the next week include the return of Bibi Bijoux – including the heart necklace a lot of us have been wearing since it launched!

STOP PRESS! I've just been given the one of my fave jewellery shows – Canadian Ammolite on Saturday 9th at 7pm- These are amazing gems made from ancient fossils, with a mother-of-pearl type sheen in vibrant greens n oranges! Join me, Can’t wait to host it!

And another great weekend on QVC including the return of Dale on Anything Goes Saturday night at 8pm with Anne, and Miceal on IT (if he’s recovered from having his embarrassing Irish TV ad aired last week – see my previous blog if you haven’t seen it yet! Lol! (Click here)

Plus – I'm the Today’s Special Value midnight launch queen this week! Including the Skechers TSV Sunday night (10th) at midnight, Charlie Bears TSV Tuesday night (12th) at midnight (can’t wait!) and of course the long awaited return of Antthony designs on Thursday night and thru Friday, including my shows with the lovely man end of next week!

AntthonyHere’s the fuchsia pink cardi with the black vest top mixed up – it’s gonna be a busy visit for him!

Well that’s it for another week – hope you’ve enjoyed it!

Lots of suggestions on what you can leave a comment on this week and you know what – it can just be one little pointer or observation! See below on how to. And I guarantee I’ll personally answer every one!

(NB last week Heather left me a fab caption for Patchy’s snowy nose – it was ‘I just can’t get the hang of this swirl, tap, buff’! I’d like to send her a little token of my appreciation for being the one that made me laugh the most, so Heather do email us your contact info – just leave a comment below, it will stay private!)

Have a great week and come back next week – when I’ll have been to see something very different – my first ever opera at the ROH on Monday night – Eugene Onegin!

Best wishes

What does the EPA stand for Debbie.
And yes i have had two readings done and both astounded me how accurate they were, and more to the point how true they was. One physic lady told me i had put a single red rose in my grandmothers casket the day of her funeral.! I did do this….. and i have never met this woman before she did not know me or my family. another reading i had was so accurate and to the point, names, stuff that had happened to me ect, even personnel stuff, i was amazed, she even told me how many kids i had, sex of them, and what was happening in my marriage at the time. and all of it was true.

Spooky experiences. Well these are normal experiences for me. So many things have happened over the years. I grew up in a haunted house so maybe that made me more open to things. My mother always used to predict train and airplane crashes. Only once have I done that and it was so strong that I phoned the person concerned and finally managed to convince him not to take a flight – it was PanAm 103 the Lockerbie flight.
I have started working in a small hotel just recently, and I keep “seeing” blood running down a wall in a bedroom. I have finally worked out which room it is, although nothing has ever happened there as the hotel was only built in the 1970s.
Looking forward to the RCM TSV, and if you need more help editing your book, I was an editor for 17 years and would be happy to help.

    Hi Debs
Hope you and the dogs had a wonderful christmas; my babies and mum and I had a quiet but enjoyable one – as long as they are getting their treats, they are happy! – despite working over the period.
I saw the show with Sally Morgan with yourself and Linda in the audience, and have read her first two books – internet was down at work, so I was finished reading them in no time. Even if you’re not a believer, you could read these books merely for the autobiographical content of the ‘olden’ days.
Have you ever watched T J Higgs on Colin Fry’s show? I think she is so accurate, she should have her own show.
My brother, who passed at age 51 in 2008, has a habit of turning the kettle on and the day before dad’s bday, he did exactly that. I certainly believe our loved ones never leave us, but look after us; I know John does! Mum won’t have it – yet she has had a reading from a lady near us – don’t get it!
It was Oscar’s birthday yesterday – 9 years old! – so he and Caspar were spoiled rotten; that’s it when you have more than one dog, as you will know, you can’t give to one without giving to the other. Coincidentally, Osc’s bday is on the same day as my late dad’s.
Bought the cozee last tsv – I’m not sleeping any longer (go to bed at 02.30 up at 06.30) but I don’t want to get up. I bought the latte, and am going to get the silver as a change. Such a luxurious range. I hesitated initially because I had never slept on fleece, but comfortable isn’t a strong enough word for it.
Well take care of yourself and the dogs. Speak soon.

    Hi Debs
I had about of colds one after another even though I eat healthily and was so fed up feeling low I popped to see my local pharmacist. They recommended I took 1000mg with Zinc daily which I still take as well as metatone tonic 3 times a day before meals until I felt better. Hey presto it worked and touch wood haven’t had a cold for nearly twelve months. Hope this helps others who feel run down with the lurgy!!
Take Care and looking forward to the Charlie Bears TSV tonight. Regards Lisa

Hi Debbie. Love reading your blogs. Looking at the pic of your sister,Linda, and Sally … I have to say I have been looking at your sister whenever I see her on QVC and could never see the resemblance between the two of you until the day you had the curls put in your hair and that was the day I saw the resemblance.
I have had a few strange unexplained experiences but once a friend and myself went to have a reading done and it was very strange ‘cos she said everything that was true to me to my friend and vice versa. I have had various readings done but this was the first time it was so mixed up but true to the other person with me down to the number of children and their sexes. It wasn’t a planned visit as we only made a visit when passing by. Strange.
Enjoy the opera! I do believe that you should not be told to be romantic on a specific day and that it has become very commercialised. I believe that you should be romantic all year round.

    Lisa –
Yes so many people swear by high dose vit C – so glad it worked for you on. I haven’t had a old for years now, I think. Every so French, when I don’t get enuf sleep, I feel a tickly thoat start and I put a dab of tea tree on end of finger and dab back of my tongue. Every couple hours, till it goes. If anything worse threatens, I also swear by a green drink called Barleans Greens from America. Now my kids resort to lots of water, tea tree, manuka and green drink if they’re run down too. V proud mummy!
But – its no good without cutting out eating rubbish too of course! And good sleep – the cure all for so many issues!
Shame they still feed poor hospital patients rubbishy white bread and sugary drinks and puddings, not enuf veg and daily fruit. Ya boo hiss to the ones that don’t.
One day they’ll realise, and make it a must.
    RAnt over!
