I had a lovely day yesterday!
First of all, one of the hours that I presented was the Real Pie Company! A little early for lunch, at 11am, but that didn’t stop me tucking in. I’d warned our Real Pie guests – Christine Cossins and pie baker Brett Hornby – that I’m trying to lose a little recently-gained weight so I wouldn’t be eating too much in the way of their delicious pastry. Haha! So much for that – it seems I have NO power to resist good food when it’s put in front of me…
The meat for the fillings is all carefully sourced: beef from Scotland, chicken from Norfolk and pork from Sussex. The pastry is handmade while the fillings are cooked long and slow for extra flavour and tenderness. Then, the pies are hand-assembled and baked before being chilled and delivered within 24 hours of being cooked, ready for immediate enjoyment or putting in the freezer.
During the show we had a lovely call from Barbara, who described herself as an old fashioned housewife who makes her own pies. Except that having tried some from Real Pies she won’t bother anymore, as she loved them so much and thought the value was great.
I find the pies a brilliant option for an easy, tasty meal that everyone seems to love, and although some of what we showed on air has sold out (there is a limit to the number of orders Real Pie can take at one time to make sure the quality is maintained) it’s worth looking online to see what’s available. If you haven’t tried them before, I’d recommend this taster selection including two each of peppered steak pies, chicken and ham pies, Sussex pasties, sausage rolls and mouthwatering sweet apple and blueberry pies. Yum!
After my three on air hours I had a real treat. As part of the auction in our fundraising evening for Breast Cancer Care last autumn we had a prize for a QVC Experience. This was to include a fashion makeover with me and Charlotte, who is the stylist for Morning Style (returning at 10am on July 1st, by the way!) with the winning bidder also getting their nails, hair and make-up done, and then dinner with Ali Keenan and Craig, who presented the BCC show last year.
It was a pleasure to meet Eugenie and her husband Don, who won the auction with an incredibly generous bid. They are great fans and supporters of QVC, and Eugenie loves our fashion! Of course, Charlotte did all the work in finding lots of outfits that might suit Eugenie and I just did lots of ‘try this one next’ and ‘oh wow, you look amazing!’.
In the end, Eugenie chose a sleeveless Yong Kim dress teamed with a gorgeous monochrome coat from Latte. It’s worth mentioning that Latte have another show on Tuesday 9th June at 11am – try to catch it if you can; it’s an eclectic mix of Italianate pieces using unusual and textured fabrics.
Eugenie looked stunning, especially when we added some Peter Kaiser slingbacks and a beautiful blue Lulu Guinness bag to finish the look. She really enjoyed the first hours of her special day, and judging by the smiles around the table at dinner with Ali and Craig it got even better!
I’m away from QVC for a week now as I’m spending some time with my mum and dad, but I will be back on your screens very soon.
Until then, take care and best wishes
