Last week I mentioned that we were doing some sorting out and sprucing up to get the house ready for our Christmas visitors and that continued over the weekend and into this week.

Our new rug for the living room arrived on Saturday (a day after the delivery company said it had been delivered, but that is another story!) and I’m really pleased with it. It is in shades of purple and aubergine and matches beautifully with a pair of full-length curtains I had been storing from our old house.

While I was at work interviewing Rumer on the Saturday Night Show (more of that later) Chris and Sophie took down the old curtains – not as easy as it sounds as the rail is very close to the ceiling and Chris struggled to get his screwdriver in to loosen it – put up the new curtains and laid the rug. I got home to a very different lounge from the one I had left just hours before … very impressive.

With the new darker curtains and rug we decided to paint the natural brick fireplace white to keep things light so that had to be done before the delivery of the solid oak mantel shelf, which was arriving on Wednesday.

We did the first coat on Tuesday before going to a party at Simon Wilson’s house and just managed to finish the second coat before the delivery arrived on Wednesday. We were very careful to keep Milo away from the paint this time as when Chris had painted another natural brick wall a couple of weeks ago Milo was very inquisitive and managed to get white paint on his paws as Sophie discovered when she got home from work. Fortunately it was only water-based paint so it washed off his feet easily and off the wooden floors where he had left a trail of little white paw prints!

Talking of paw prints, Milo left some in the woods at the end of our road too when we took him for a walk on Sunday. Yes, you heard me correctly. Milo is not allowed out in the garden on his own as this is only his temporary home but he does like being outside so we put him on a lead and take him for walks just as you would a dog. Don’t believe me? Here’s the proof…

I also have footage of him fetching a ‘stick’ – maybe I’ll put that on next week’s blog – maybe he thinks he’s a dog?

Speaking of which did any of you see gorgeous Alfie the dog on last week’s Saturday Night Show? He was on air with singer Rumer as she gets nervous about live TV appearances. If you missed the interview you can check it out here.

Alfie was as good as gold and Rumer is a lovely lady with a beautiful voice and I’m not the only person who thinks so. My attention was drawn to a tweet from singer/rapper Example. The tweet was a selfie from backstage in Sheffield before a live gig and in the background he had Rumer on QVC on his telly!!! I thought I was doing quite well reaching over 12,000 followers on twitter … Example has over 2 million!

I wonder if he is on Facebook too? I have been thinking about setting up a Facebook page but I’ve discovered there already is one run by a fan. Do yo think I should set an official one up? What would I need to put on there? There are some really nice pictures on the one that already exists including this one. It was taken during a Butler & Wilson show, which I know because I recognise the brooch.

Facebook page

So now I’m going to share a little secret with you. At Simon’s party on Tuesday night he asked me if I had brought the designs for ‘my’ Butler & Wilson collection to celebrate his twenty years on QVC next August. He was very surprised when I produced the drawings from my handbag! I cannot draw but even with my awful attempt to put my ideas on paper Simon liked what I had come up with and, if they can be made, they will feature on QVC next year – it’s so exciting!

Someone else who is diversifying into jewellery design is Wilnelia Forsyth, with whom I have a show this afternoon. I did her first sell-out show a few months ago so I am looking forward to seeing her new collection.

Elemis special offer

I’m also looking forward to being the first presenter to share the Elemis TSV with you live on air tomorrow night at the start of the Saturday Night show. There are global launches of new products, including a new version of the Pro Radiance Cleanser with cedarwood, bergamot and neroli, which is GORGEOUS!

The whole collection is worth over £125 and will be on QVC at under £40 AND is on 4 Easy Pays. Better still, it’s on Buy More Save More if you wanted to get more than one. I hope you’ll join Keeley and I for this exclusive pre-launch at the start of the Saturday Night Show with Miceal and Will.

Hope you have a fab weekend.

Much love,

Julia xx

    Hi Julia,
It was funny seeing Milo walking on a lead. When I was a little girl we had a Siamese cat called Sheba. I took her to school when we had a pet show and she used to walk on a lead. She was more like a dog, as siamese cats have a strange miow. Shewon first prize by the way. Even stranger though than a cat walking on a lead was when we had a rabbit. My father used to take it for a walk down a lane where we lived to where there was a brook.
It was strange to see you on the morning show yesterday. I just caught the show when you mentioned Donny Osmond is on next week. I was a Donny fan myself and yes I am about the same age as you! It took 35 years or so before I finally got to see my childhood heart-throb. I have been lucky enough to see Donny 3 times now and have also seen the Osmonds when they did their” once in a lifetime tour.” It was fortunate I saw them all on that tour as it was the last time they have been together due to ill health etc. I also saw David Cassidy a few years back when he did a tour with the Osmonds, David Essex and Shawaddywaddy. As I said better late than never when I eventually got to see my idol’s!! It was so emotional, I cried like a fool as it just took me back to my teen’s and the good old days.
The electrician is calling next week to change the fuse board as it is obsolete and hopefully rectify the faults we have had.(Fingers crossed).
    Best wishes, Tina S.

      Hi Tina
A few other people have commented about Siamese cats enjoying walks on a lead – maybe Milo has some Siamese in him! I’ll put the video of him ‘fetching’ a stick on his week’s blog.
We also have the electrician calling next week. Although we don’t have a problem at the moment we need an extractor fan fitting in the bathroom so while he is doing that he is going to upgrade the fuse box. Hope your electrics are sorted now?
I was more of a David Cassidy fan… Ssshhh don’t tell Donny!
      Speak soon

How well Milo walks on a lead, maybe he does has you say, think he is a dog!

      Hi Rebecca
Milo is very good when it is soft underfoot but less keen on the road surface. He is so funny when he is inside looking out at the birds. He makes Hannibal Lechter type noises – I’m glad he can’t get at them as I’m not fond on those sort of ‘presents’!

    Hi Julia,
It sounds as if your home is going to be lovely. love the colours you have chosen. I expect it was a nice surprise to find the new curtains up when you came home from work.
Milo does not seem to mind the lead. I had to laugh at his paint paw prints, I don’t expect Sophie thought it was funny.
As I mentioned in my reply to your last blog, Rumer has a beautiful voice and Alfie is gorgeous. Dogs and Cats are great for destressing.
Hope your designs go ahead with Simon, you have so many hidden talents.
Looking forward to the Elemis TSV.
    Take care.
    Love Jean XX

      Hello Jean
Hope you enjoyed the Elemis shows and maybe treated yourself to the TSV?
I’m currently headed into work but Chris has just texted to say the sofas are due to be delivered this morning. It will be nice to have sofas that match again! More changes when I get home from work.
Still early days for my jewellery designs but I have lots of ideas.
      Speak soon

Hi Julia, you should set up a Facebook page.
Can’t wait for the Elemis TSV, it’s always fab! Speaking of TSVs I got the silver B&W necklace, it’s gorgeous! Can’t wait to wear it over the festive season. Your designs for B&W sounds exciting, looking forward to seeing them next year.
I made your Christmas cake last weekend (6th year in a row 🙂 ) it always tastes yummy and goes down a treat.
Milo is lovely, I have a five month old kitten. He’s gorgeous and I’m so happy I got him. It’s been over a year since my last cat had to be put to sleep and when I saw Charlie (my kitten) it just felt the right time. Cats are great company!

      Hi Alana
I did try and reply to you yesterday but for some reason the comment got cut short so I’m trying again.
Glad you love your Butler & Wilson TSV – I think the silver was my favourite too although difficult to choose.
I haven’t made my Christmas Cake yet – I always wait until after my son’s birthday on the 27th – my recipe has never let me down (touch wood) and pleased you enjoy it too.
It takes a while for us to feel able to go for a new furry friend after we have lost one – pleased to hear that you now have Charlie…. great name

Cats are wonderful creatures. I have two, that are completely different. When I was first married , years and years ago , I had two Burmese cats who were happy to go on leads, but I have found other types of cats very reluctant, and my newest one went literally mad when I tried to let her explore her new garden on one….so I gave up !

      Hello Kitty (sorry couldn’t resist)
What a great name for a cat lover

    Hi Julia,
I really enjoyed the interview with Rumer – my partner Ian purchased her previous (first?) album and hearing her singing in the background to the interview, it sounds so mellow. I haven’t seen her interviewed before – she did brilliantly as anxiety can be crippling. You and Alfie definitely helped her feel comfortable 🙂
I’m not on Facebook but do think you should have your own page – you could update us with more feline antics, holiday photos – anything you feel comfortable sharing..
Last but not least, it was great seeing Milo on his walk – like ‘Tina S’ I’ve had Siamese cats who enjoyed walks too. They would happily come with us on caravanning holidays and another one who used to follow me on my weekly paper round. It’s unusual for a non-oriental cat to enjoy being taken for a walk – his body language was saying “I’m enjoying this” so please keep it up!
    Lots of love,
    Beth XXX.

      Hi Beth
I’ve been thinking about Facebook for a while – I’m a fan of Twitter because it’s very instant but sometimes a bit limiting. When Sophie has a minute I’ll get her to look into it for me.
Milo really does enjoy his walks. I think he would probably love to be allowed to roam free but it doesn’t seem fair as Sophie is only with us temporarily. Yesterday I gave him his Christmas present early – a new, bigger scratching post with mice hidden in it. He seems to like it. I got one for Wilfie too – can’t show favouritism just like with the children

      Hi Martin
Hope you’ve enjoyed your time off? Still a few things to do in our new house but no rush really so long as we are comfy for Christmas.
Daniel is settled in his flat with Wilfie the cat, we just need to find somewhere for Sophie now.
I haven’t done much Christmas shopping yet – I usually wait until after Daniel’s birthday on 27th although the cats got their presents early as you will see on my new blog.
Unfortunately I am not really in touch with many former QVC presenters except Paul, Julian and my ex roomie Anna.
