Today’s Special Value and a weekend in Bath

5

Wow! What a windy weekend!

I hope you stayed safe and didn’t have to change your plans too much. Despite the weather, Olley and I still carried on with the weekend that we had been looking forward to since my birthday, as my sons Charlie and Billy had gifted me tickets to the European Modern Penthathlon Championships to be held in Bath for us all to attend.

It’s hard to believe that it was 40-years-ago this month that I won my world title in the multi-discipline sport! It has changed a little in format since my day but essentially it is the same: swimming, fencing, show jumping, shooting and running.

Olley and I enjoy staying at the motorhome campsite in Bath Marina just west of the city, while Billy and his fiance Mel live in a flat in Keynsham near Bath. Charlie and his girlfriend Maddie stayed with them and we had a fantastic family weekend, only missing Bex, Dan and Zoe.

It was certainly fun to watch the sport but I’m glad it’s them and not me any more! It was exciting because Britain is really very good at this sport and we had a couple of men in contention for the gold medal right from the start.

The stormy weather played its part, as the riding event had to be delayed by several hours! The wind was blowing all the show jumping poles down. It wouldn’t have be safe and the horses wouldn’t have been happy.

In the end, the competition was completed in evening sunshine and it was Jamie Cooke who took the title after a grueling day of competition. We also won the men’s team event, so our National Anthem was played twice while the Union flag flew high.

The boys said watching the combination of the athlete’s skill, determination, commitment and stamina that is needed to excel in this demanding sport had helped them see their old mum with new admiration and respect. So it was a day well spent!!

I do enjoy Bath as a city, it’s such a lovely place to spend some quality time. I often visited when I was a child as my Mum was born there and Granny lived there until she died.

We parked our motorhome in a campsite right on the River Avon and I took the opportunity the following morning to take Billy and Mel’s lovely eight month old puppy Jasper for a walk in the gorgeous countryside. They’ve trained him very well – he’s a bit bonkers and runs everywhere at a million miles an hour but never strays far before coming back to base for a treat. His ears flap up and down as he bounds around and he makes me smile.

I’m smiling about our Today’s Special Value on Thursday this week, too! It’s a fabulous pair of denim-style trousers from Renee Greenstein, from her range Women with Control. They have a brilliant tummy control panel and made with prime stretch denim. They’re also available in petite and tall to ensure they’re the best fit for all women.

I virtually live in Renee’s denims. I love the soft and supple fabric and the tummy control is helpful to most of us! I’m really looking forward to seeing the new colours of Bordeaux and Smoke. I expect I’ll be buying the Smoke as I find grey such a versatile neutral to wear. We’ll also have the classic colours of Indigo (pictured on me), Midwash and Black.

Do try to catch one of our shows featuring these easy-to-wear trousers! From 9pm on Wednesday 14th August for the pre-launch or at 9am on Thursday 15th with me on the Morning Show, as well as 11am the same-day for a full hour with Renee and myself. Failing that, check it out online.

That’s it for now! I’m sitting next to Olley who is driving us to see Bex and baby Zoe with a special lunch on-board to celebrate Bex’s birthday. We’re almost there and I’ve just realised I’ve forgotten the candles…

Best wishes to you, take care

Love Kathy x

    Hi Kathy,
Sure we always forget something! Hope the lunch was good anyway!
I didn’t know you had another wedding coming up! How lovely one of your boys is getting married. They’re a lovely looking brood you have. It must be strange for them to think of you as a world athlete! You’re on top form and shape Kathy and you’re clearly loving life now! Enjoy x

Hi Susan. Yes! Billy proposed to lovely Mel in February of this year. They’re both only 23 but they’re totally committed to each other, and we feel tight for each other. They’ve bought a flat and then puppy Jasper together so they’re moving along life’s path rather quickly! The wedding date has been set, but not for a while yet – June 2nd 2021.
You’re right about the sport side of me, I know they’re proud of me and impressed that I’m doing well with my rowing now. But I think it’s hard for them to think of me as 19 years old and a world champion – I really just Mum!
Hope you’re well and enjoying life
    Take care

Well enjoy the wedding preparations again! The 2 of them are lucky to have found each other so young.
Continue to enjoy your rowing and life.

Thanks Margaret. I’m glad you enjoy them – I do too! And I have to say, I’ve learned lots about how to put a look together from our brilliant guests and behind the scenes stylists.
    Hope you’re well
