‘Tis the season to get married

Marathon run as cats, Emma far leftI remember my parents saying years ago that weddings only used to take place in the summer, they said it was for many reasons – the weather, photo opportunities and the general mood of folk would be glum otherwise (whatever that meant).

This has definitely changed. I haven't even attended a summer wedding but I've got one autumn ceremony and two winter weddings on the way this year!

My best friend, Dr. Emma, is getting married. We went to school together, grew up together, holidayed together, we even ran a marathon together (pictured – dressed as cats!) and her first boyfriend was my older brother, Oliver! (awkward…)

Up until a year ago Em and I even co-habited. I can't believe she's getting married but I also couldn't be happier for her.

I've met all her boyfriends, I've even introduced some of them, who were my friends or colleagues, she's even dated one of QVC's own producers! (That's a secret…)

Over the years, amongst the boyfriends, there were even four (yes four) different Williams – William the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, I put this down to being a popular name in the late seventies.

Coincidentally, Emma's cat was called William too, but I don't think it was any sort of feline Oedipus complex.

Bridget Jones or EmmaWe used to joke that Emma was Bridget Jones, she didn't make blue soup but did manage gingerbread slop, they even had the same cardigan.

In between proper boyfriends, before Em found 'The One', there was a stint on dating websites.

I was there by her side through the whole thing, I even drove her to her first internet date to meet Andy from the Army who wore a mustard shirt (I know because I was peeping through the window).

I think in the space of two months there were around twenty dates across many industries including police, the service, lawyers, accountants, sales managers and even the grandson of a famous car brand founder!

There was also Liam who said he was a bank manager, lived in South Bridget Jones or Emma...Ealing and was just short of six foot; turned out he worked in a bank, lived in Staines (with his mum) and was five inches short of six foot!

Going back, Emma worked very hard through school, she was head girl, she went to Cambridge University (like her father) and became a doctor, I called this phase 'Educating Emma' (EE).

This phase never seemed to end and probably still hasn't, Emma isn't made up of cells like the rest of us but megabytes of medical information.

12 As at GCSE, four As at A level, two honours degrees, one doctorate, and more letters after her name than the alphabet!

I used to joke that I would enrole Emma on a course or set her a test for Christmas all in pursuit of EE! Obviously it's all worth it, I'm very proud of what she has achieved and she's now a top GP (and in typical EE fashion obviously does extra research journals and medical media stuff on the side).

Chloe and Emma in Trystan's hatsThen during the dating frenzy, whilst on an evening with Dan - who wore red trousers and mumbled very highly about his favourite topic himself – Emma got bored and so spoke to a group of fellas on a stag do.

They recommended their friend Trystan, billing him to Emma as an upstanding suitable gent.

Trystan was a former Captain in the Welsh Guard, so Emma decided this was like a knight on a brown horse without the shining armour. So contacts were swapped, eventually they met and the rest is history, as they say.

The big day beckons, so the important question is this – with all the fab fashion at QVC – what do I wear to a winter wedding?! Suggestions welcome!
