As I mentioned on last week’s blog, I have always wanted to go to the Last Night of the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, and last Saturday my wish came true.
The box we were in for the evening had five seats, so it was the family plus one! I immediately knew who to invite as my friend Natalie, who used to work at QVC, refuses dates in order to stay in and watch it on TV. When I told her I had tickets I said, ‘How much do you love me?’ Her response on Twitter two minutes later was: ‘More than Spurs!!!’.
I’m not entirely sure that is true, but I do know we all had an immensely enjoyable evening, which started with a tapas dinner and ended with us all singing Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory at the top of our voices, whilst vigorously waving our Union Jacks. If it is something you have always wanted to do, I would highly recommend it.
We were very fortunate with the position of my son’s friend’s box. It was right in the centre of the second tier, directly above the box where the BBC were filming Katie Derham’s links. For any of you who were watching on TV, you may have spotted a hair decoration landing on Katie’s head as she was doing her final piece to camera… oops! Let me explain.
The chap in the box next to us was a veteran of Last Night of the Proms, having attended for the previous thirty years or so. Whilst we had paper flags, he came armed with: a full sized Union Jack flag (which he draped over the balcony) plus a bag full of balloons and party poppers – which he released periodically throughout the second half of the concert.
Just before the end, the contents of one party popper landed on my daughter’s lap, which she then dropped over the balcony to land on… yes, you guessed, Katie Derham’s head. On the way home on the train, we spotted that people were posting videos of the moment on social media. It was quite amusing and beautifully handled by Katie – a true professional!
Well, no decorating this week but we did have the electrician in on Wednesday to do the wiring in our family bathroom, which is the next project to attack. We need to have that done before the remaining carpet can be laid on the first floor landing and the stairs. The carpet shop won’t hang on to it forever, so we need to get a wiggle on. More upheaval, but I am so looking forward to having the whole house finished. We’re months away from that, but I will keep you posted on here with photos of the progress.
At least with no decorating I had time to do some writing. I have been tinkering with a book I started around this time last year, but when I sat down to write on Wednesday a Christmas idea popped into my head and I just went with the flow. It’s a bit different for me, more of a rom-com, so I’ll just have to see how it develops!
This week has been Fashion Week on QVC, which I hope you’ve been enjoying. I wonder if you managed to get the H by Halston Today’s Special Value before it sold out?
It’s really good to have Ruth Langsford back with her Fashion Edit shows and Jackie Kabler on Thursday evenings at 9pm. I popped in to have a chat with her yesterday and to ask how her dancing training is going. She seems to be really enjoying the experience – where she gets all her energy from, I don’t know!
As always, here’s next week’s Look of the Week video, which features in the 4pm show every weekday on the QVC Style Channel.

So, from giving you prior notice of the upcoming fashion Today’s Special Values on last week’s blog, here is a heads up on the great Pro-Collagen Marine collection from Elemis available online now and coming up on-air on Sunday (a day filled with beauty).
It has my all-time favourite night cream (and I’m meaning from any brand), plus the Marine Facial Oil, Advanced Eye Treatment and Marine Mask. A real treat at a brilliant price.
I’m really looking forward to kicking off Sunday morning at 9am with a show packed full of your favourite beauty brands, including the Today’s Special Value – of course – followed by a whole hour of Elemis at 11am and Nails Inc at noon. Something else not to be missed, is the new colour in the hugely popular Dyson hairdryer which has been produced exclusively for QVC. Quick and kind to your hair – and in purple! What’s not to love…? And, did I mention you can get it in 4 Easy Payments?
I am going to be taking a few days away from QVC after my shows on Monday – I need it to recover from all the house renovating. I’ll be back on-air 28th September, in plenty of time for QVC’s 24th birthday… I can’t even begin to tell you how fab the Today’s Special Value is on that day – very exciting!
After a disastrous start to the football season by my team, Crystal Palace, and the subsequent sacking of manager Frank de Boer after just four games (a little hasty in my opinion), I will be anxiously keeping an eye on the scores tomorrow. We’ll see if veteran manager, Roy Hodgson, can steady the ship – let’s hope so!
Have a great weekend,
