So I am desperately trying to squeeze in the last sunny days of summer with Fred and the kids. I don’t know about you but I feel a little like I haven’t done enough or enjoyed the sun as much as we could have. When I look back through pictures of our summer I’m sure that’s not completely the case. We have enjoyed the beach of course but I can’t help feeling like we should have had a few more days out, so we are making the most of all days off and sunny days.
This weekend it was the airshow in Poole, so on Sunday we decided to go and enjoy that. We started our day by walking from Poole to Bournemouth along the beach front with the girls so that we could try out the Big Wheel which has taken residence down near the pier. It’s obviously much smaller than the London Eye but it was a really fun thing to do together and see the amazing views of Bournemouth and the sea. Fred however wasn’t enjoying at as much as myself and the girls. He isn’t a fan of heights and spent most of the ride holding onto the pillar in the middle of our carriage!
We then walked back along the promenade, stopping for lunch at one of the beach bars and then headed down onto the sand to enjoy the air show from the beach.
It really is pretty special to watch the planes from your blanket on the sand. Unfortunately the Red Arrows were’t flying on Sunday but fortunately I happened to see them practising a week ago on my drive home so at least I can say I have seen them this year. Along the beach front there is also a load of new murals that have been commissioned, they are called ‘Love Selfie Walls’ ‘which is a really fun way to get people taking pictures to share online of Bournemouth and Poole. We made sure to stop at most of them to get some fun pictures. I wore my super colourful Onjenu skirt and my new Skinnydip Cara sunglasses which are a bargain at £25!
THE WEEKEND KITCHEN
So the first Weekend Kitchen Show was a great success, we had so many fantastic comments online, and messages and tweets from people who loved it. We are so happy because a lot of work has gone into the show. It’s on for the next three Saturdays so please make sure to set the reminders. Next week, TV chef Marcus Bean will be joining us to bring us his own recipes using all the incredible food brands that we have at QVC. I have been having a bit of fun with some of the products that we will be using this Saturday including the gorgeous range from Family Secret. It’s a set of 7 delicious Curry and Thai Sauces and last time I was on-air with them, they sold out in minutes!
The sauces are so simple that all you have to do is add raw vegetables, meat or fish and then simmer them in the sauce so that the flavour soaks into it all. I wanted to try something a little different though as this is the point of The Weekend Kitchen. So I made a vegetable curry and decided to roast the vegetables first. I chopped big chunks of sweet potato, red onion and cauliflower and put them in an oven proof dish. I then drizzled them with olive oil and sprinkled with cumin and turmeric.
I then roasted them for 30 mins to get that lovely roasted flavour out of them. I then poured the Indonesian Rendang all over the vegetables and put it back in the oven for about 20 minutes. Oh my word these sauces are good, they really do taste like authentic restaurant-level flavours. Not the usual taste you expect from jarred sauces. I can’t wait to see what Marcus does with them this Saturday.
We will also be seeing what he does with the 8 sponge cakes from The Original Cake Company and chocolate from Calico Cottage, which includes fudge, chocolate raisins and the most decadent Fruit and Nut Tile. One trick I know with the Lemon Cake is to slice it and fry it in a little butter and eat it with creme fresh, it’s such a beautiful dessert. This is what I love about the show, it will make us think of doing something a little different. I was also thinking of using the chocolate covered raisin in a bread and butter pudding, wouldn’t that be gorgeous?!
I promised you I would share Dean’s recipes from the previous show, so here they all are – from the best gravy in all the land to the most calorific milkshake you have ever had!
I also got to work with one of my favourite guests, make-up artist, SJ from Bareminerals. They had such a busy day with their fantastic Today’s Special Value offer. I would love to know how you guys are getting on with it if you bought it. Let me know in the comments. I want to let you know about mine and SJ’s outfits too because I really liked them. Firstly the Nina Leonard oversized jumper that I am wearing is perfect for the coming autumn. I wore the Blue Mist and teamed it with my favourite Helene Berman pleated skirt, another essential for the season and my new Bronx Nappa Leather Trainers for a more casual look. SJ wore a fab dress that I also own and love, it’s from Onjenu and and it’s a wrap around. How great is that pattern?!
