I was a little late to the party when it came to Vitamix. Charlie has had his for ages and was always raving about how brilliant it was so he persuaded me to buy mine when it was a Today’s Special Value just over a year ago.
I had been on air with it a few times and was very impressed by the demonstrations but having it in my own home and using it for my recipes while it was under the 30-day money back guarantee made all the difference.
I don’t use it every day but when I do I’m really impressed with the results. The first thing I tried was a fruit milk shake. I like to use strawberries, banana, a couple of scoops of chocolate ice-cream and a little rice milk. With my old blender the little seeds from the outside of the strawberries would stay whole and sometimes get stuck in my teeth. I can honestly say it was the smoothest milkshake I’ve ever made – ideal for getting children to eat fruit if you don’t want them to know they are having it!
I’ve also made ice-cream desserts using frozen fruit and either yoghurt or vanilla custard. The consistency is lovely and soft and it’s ideal for an emergency dessert.
Savoury-wise I use it to make smooth soup, although I haven’t tried chucking in all the raw ingredients and leaving it running for five minutes to heat through. I also make fresh breadcrumbs and mix with a little grated cheese for topping courgette and tomato bake, or on their own for roasted squash, goat’s cheese and rocket.
All in all, it is a considered purchase in terms of price but if you like to cook – as I do when I have the time – you will find yourself using it for a whole host of things and I feel very confident in the build quality.
