The traveller returns

Apologies that today’s blog will be a little on the short side as, once again, I am off work with a dodgy tummy. I did try to soldier on, as our poor scheduler is running out of presenters with all the sickness around, but Wednesday night was the final straw and I have had to give in to being off sick.

I’m trying a new product suggested by the local pharmacist, it’s a weird gel that kind of vacuums up all the bad bacteria and stuff in your gut. It doesn’t taste of anything but the texture is pretty gross and gives a kind of blocked feeling. Fingers crossed it will work, or I will be back to the doctors on Monday!

Last Monday saw the return of my daughter, Sophie, from her travels in Australia. She took some fabulous photos while she was away, a couple of which I thought I’d share with you. The group of girls are Sophie and the school friends: Nicola, who is currently working out there, Nicky, and Emily.

This group photo is of Sophie visiting her cousins for Millie’s birthday tea (the little girl in the yellow dress).

And then, of course, the back-to-camera shot of Soph on a deserted beach at the top of the blog. She had a fabulous time, but I’m not convinced that a move to Australia is on the cards.

Actually, Sophie has had a busy week. Having arrived back in the UK at 5am Monday morning after her mammoth flight, she was straight back to work. On Tuesday night she had to attend an awards ceremony, where her brand won two awards! Nothing like being thrown straight back in at the deep end.

It’s been really busy at QVC too with all the fabulous Black Friday deals. I wonder if you indulged? I did! I’ve always wanted a Bose Wave Sound System, and the Today’s Special Value price last weekend was too good to miss.

While I was at it, I also bought a new handheld Dyson V6 – which I mostly use for stray cat litter – reduced from over £200 to £129. There is a fab new all whistles and flutes Dyson that I’ve also been trying out now that we have most of our new carpets and floors down, that’s coming up at a special price pre-Christmas. I’ll do a video (or lots of photos) and put it on here next week.

House-wise, we now have a wall dividing our lounge and dining area. The electrician is feeding the wires through at the moment, so that the wall can be finished and plastered before we decorate and carpet the lounge… phew!

The wall is currently bright blue, which I’m sure is a talking point with any passing pedestrians as it can clearly be seen through the window. Guess what colour it will be eventually? Yes… grey! I’ve also had notification this week that our new front door will be fitted next Friday, and that’s grey too. Seriously, there will definitely be in excess of 50 shades by the time the whole house is finished!

I was hoping to share the cover of my Christmas novella with you today, but I haven’t had the final file yet so it will have to be next week. Hopefully I’ll be seeing you from next Thursday for my normal run of eight days out of nine. Until then, happy shopping – particularly if you are a fan, as I am, of the Bareminerals Original foundation. I’m still using Medium Tan at the moment but I will change to Medium Beige when I get really pale.

It’s just one part of the Make a Statement Today’s Special Value on-air throughout Sunday, and available online now. You also get a radiance powder, mascara, eyeliner, lip primer, lipstick, face brush and make-up bag! And it all comes in a gift box.

Much love,
Julia xx

    Hi Julia,
Hope that weird gel has worked for your digestion and you are feeling a lot better!… I do know how the gut brain (as the experts call it) if upset can cause a lot of trouble to peoples health!! … I am always looking for natural products to improve my digestion, could you share the name of the product you have been recommended please? if you can’t… then maybe a clue!!

I have to give you a rosy glow (compliment) You looked stunning wearing the Michele Hopes purple shirt on Michele’s show the other day and your hair looked lovely!

    Hope that cheers you up!!

      Hi Liz
So, the weird gel did work to a degree for the 48 hours I was taking it but symptoms returned when I stopped – turns out it was stomach flu. Still a bit weak and headachy but will be back on QVC tomorrow.
The gel is called Enterosgel (I think – I threw the empty tube away).
Thank you for the ‘rosy glow’ compliment – cheered me up and really liked that shirt!

I’m sorry your poorly again Julia. Could it be anything to do with medication or the work being done on the house? Just a thought.

    Hi Julia,
Sorry you are off sick…have you tried taking probiotics? They really do help..I get mine from Victoria Health and balance everything in the gut out.
    May be worth a try!

      Hi Liz
Thanks for the suggestion but I already take a probiotic everyday – it turns out I’ve had stomach flu (gastro-enteritis) which Miceal has been off with the past couple of weeks – must be doing the rounds ?

Hi Julia, my house is mainly greys whites with hints of a pink or black or purple thrown in. I do like this colour scheme as you can add any other colour to bring it to life. My bedroom is all white not a bright white just white, walls, curtains and a white Kelly Hoppen kingsize bedspread so I can have any colour duvet sets underneath. Sorry to hear you are suffering at the minute, when my dog lol, had a upset tummy vet said just give him rice and chicken with a bit of gravy as it is bland and I have to say it does work if any of us have a dicky tummy we eat this in a small dose and does seem to settle it. take care all good wishes. Sally

      Hi Sally,
I’m really pleased with all the shades of grey – it just feels so calm. Eventually I’ll start adding colourful accents but no rush and at least they are easier to change than painting walls!
My tummy is better now – rice, toast, & banana were my lifesavers! That & the weird gel.

Gosh saw you on Kim and Co today – 7 December – you’re dropping weight by the day! What is your secret – wish I could drop the pounds like you – do hope you are feeling better – I take probiotics Julia and always avoid the tummy bugs and flu also – just a suggestion as did Liz mention above

      Hi Janet,
I have lost some weight – no/low carbs and no alcohol for a month really kickstarted it and then having the tummy bug meant I wasn’t really eating much more a while. I feel happier with my weight now so hop I can keep it off.
As mentioned to Liz above, I do take probiotics but they didn’t stop me getting this bug unfortunately. Better now though.
      Julia x
