This week has positively flown by and talking of flying, this time next week I’ll be on board a plane to New York. It’s funny how things happen; prior to this year, I hadn’t visited the Big Apple since 1976 when I was a dancer on the cruise ships. We sailed out of New York for our first few voyages before moving down to the distinctly warmer climes of Fort Lauderdale in Florida.
Now, a bit like the proverbial London buses, it will be two trips in under a year! To be honest, it would have been nicer to go in slightly warmer weather but this trip is all about a ‘The Jets v The Patriots’ at the MetLife Stadium! It may sound as though I know what I’m talking about but don’t be misled. I’ve never been to an American Football game before as I’m a fan of a different kind of football. Incidentally, well done to Gareth Southgate for ‘blooding’ some new talent in last night’s victory over the US and also giving Wayne Rooney the chance to earn his 120th cap. And good luck against Croatia on Sunday.
Back to the different shaped ball game – thanks very much to Cate Bandel from fashion brand Nina Leonard who helped me to source tickets for the game and also for her advice to wrap up warm! It’s a little concerning that it is billed as the Winter Glove Giveaway game – thank goodness for my Centigrade coat and Emu boots. Apparently they’ve already had the first snow of the season this week brrrr!
Cate and Patrick Hoy from Quacker Factory fashion have also suggested some great places to eat and things to do during our four-day stay. I’m hoping I may also find time to visit Cate’s fabric room at her Nina Leonard headquarters, time permitting.
Talking of fabric, after much deliberating we reached a decision on our dining room chairs. I say ‘we’ but actually I had the final say, so if they don’t look good against the stripe wallpaper the buck stops with me. If they’ve arrived in time, I’ll put a picture on next week’s blog. Actually, I was really chuffed as the company I purchased from very kindly reactivated a discount voucher which saved me around eighty pounds. It put a smile on my face for the rest of the day.
It’s nice when companies reward their customers and QVC are currently running the money-off voucher scheme again. Check all the terms and conditions on our website but basically if you spend over £150 before the 2nd of December you will have earned a £15 voucher to redeem between the 6th and 20th December – there is a minimum spend. Similarly if you spend over £250 the voucher would be for £25.
It’s a cumulative spend as well so if, like me, you ordered the fabulous Hotel Chocolat TSV yesterday that would count towards it. I was also tempted by the Yankee Candle TSV (top picture) today but unfortunately I wasn’t quick enough and my preferred option has already sold out, even the advanced orders. You’d think I’d know better and order early after all the years I’ve been at QVC!
And speaking of ‘all these years’, after over 40 years together me and ‘him indoors’ got engaged and after over 41 years we will be getting married. The date is set for 27th August, which would have been my mum and dad’s platinum wedding anniversary, and the year 2019 is significant as my dad’s birthday was 19th of June – I just wanted him to be part of it. He will also be part of my book deal announcement as the publishing company I’ve signed with have chosen to do that on Monday (19th November) which I will be able to elaborate on next week.
So, after my hours on air today, I am off until 28th November. Do keep your eyes peeled for some fantastic QVC offers between now and then though including the fab Decleor Sleep Tight Wake Bright TSV (pictured above) on Sunday. There is also a MarlaWynne coatigan offer on Monday and a Skechers lace-up boot trainer (pictured above) on Tuesday which would have been ideal for New York… I wonder if they’ll arrive in time if I order?
Have a great weekend!
