Hello to you all, it looks like a wonderfully sunny day from my standing up desk (as Dan calls it) where I was wading through various bits of paperwork, endless amounts of “I must deal with and haven’t” stuff, when, boom! A casual email from Tom’s college sent a jolt right through me.
End of term arrangements for… NEXT WEEK… whaaaaaaat! How on earth have I missed this, how? Why? What to do… I actually laughed out loud albeit verging on hysteria as it’s going to be a crazy time trying to organise things, but I’m sure it will work out okay …she says!!! Frantically leafing through said diary like a mad woman and firing off lots of emails.
It has been a lovely week both at QVC and home, I’m trying a new thing. When a negative thought enters my head I immediately say ”I’m so grateful for….” and verbalise (in my head!) something; teeny or large, it doesn’t matter. I’ve noticed the negative thought disappears immediately.
Paula (she who paints my nails so brilliantly for me so that it’s one less thing to stress about when I’m getting ready for QVC!) is also a mindfulness practitioner and works with young children in school settings teaching them about and practising mindfulness in order to have a tool box of skills to help them through life. I always come away from her with so much more than perfectly painted nails… try it, honestly it’s a great technique.
Talking of painted nails, I have loved showing off the new Nails Inc colours that officially launch tomorrow (Tuesday 12th June) as the Let’s Go Flamingo Today’s Special Value, but it’s actually available right now for you to buy online.
Paula says I must tell you all how easy they are to paint with, and there is also an extra treat available with a second delivery with a collection called Peacock Status.
I had a fabulous weekend when I met up with some of my college bunch, the ‘Class of 86’ from Laine Theatre Arts. Ruthie Henshall, one of our gang, is currently playing Mama Morton in Chicago at the Phoenix Theatre so we all arrived in London to eat, drink, see the show and incredibly my Saturday shift at QVC was later than usual so I could even stay over in town too!
The show was totally amazing and Ruthie is an incredible talent (but we knew that at college all those years ago). To be in the company of everyone again was truly special.
I can’t believe that I left home at 16 years old and went to college, I grew up with these girls and boys and became who I am. I felt kind of young and kind of old on Saturday! Lots of chatter and catch up about all our families, notes compared about menopause, who is in it! Who’s not! And lots of lovely laughter.
I stayed with Michelle and, horror of horrors, I forgot my sponge bag, can you believe it) No biggie, I knew she would let me borrow her things…WELL, what things? She DOESN’T USE MOISTURISER… I know, don’t get me started!!!
We laughed, I lectured her, and am going to send her some….though now I’m worrying what if she doesn’t use suncare either.
It was a challenge I shall not lie! So when I arrived at QVC I slathered three layers and serums on ahead of my show to try and make it up to my skin.
It got me thinking about my current skincare routine, which is alternating Elemis Cleansing Balm and Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish and toner spritzed onto damp skin. Dr Perricone serum with a Tan Luxe drop in, then Face Finishing Moisturiser and or Ultrasun face depending on the day. Dr Perricone is a newer addition for me and I’m rather loving the smoothness and clarity I’m seeing. Tonight I shall be using my Gatineau mask after the fabulous peel off exfoliation as a little boost.
My Tan Accelerator is being used regularly too, we have some fabulous ones from Ultrasun and Elemis too but my current one is Gatineau. It’s to help when I actually see the sun and as Dan and I are nipping off for a few nights away in Spain next week to celebrate his birthday and allow him some rest and relaxation time, I need to be prepared!
It’s Beauty Month at QVC this June, so we have lots of wonderful goodies, launches and fabulously priced things. I’m certainly on the look-out for a refresh of my make-up. I looked back at some old pictures and realised that the colours I used to use on my eyes really showed their colour up. I think it’s good to experiment but I’m a creature of habit, so some bronze-browny shades will be making their way into my case for our make-up artist to use. I love make-up but hate too much of it on my skin, so it’s always struggle with the amount we need to wear on TV! I prefer the less-is-more approach but with a decent eye and always a cheek!
A recent find has been Laura Geller Quench-n-Tint, a tinted moisturiser/foundation, which with a dusting of Balance-n-Brighten to take away the shine seems to do the trick. It feels light and doesn’t look too heavy. Balance-n-Brighten is the Beauty Pick of the Month so there’s no P&P to pay, though it was very busy this first week of the month so I wouldn’t wait too long to order there are no advanced orders. I wear the shade Golden Medium by the way.
Mally’s Starlight eye pencils in Brown are gorgeous, they have a soft bronze glow so create a softer look than the Midnight (black), though for extra drama black always works its magic! I decided I might ask some of the make-up girls to go free rein and “do me” without my interfering… what do you think? It would be so interesting to see how they see me, I will share those looks in my next blog hopefully if they are up for the challenge!
I must say I so admire Eilidh Nairn (one of our newer presenters) and her chameleon looks. She is beautiful of course (and a lovely person) and she always tries new exciting looks with her hair, make-up and fashion, I love seeing her end results each time. We share a dressing room (well I take over with mess and chaos, unless Jackie is in and then I’m tidier). Poor Alex and Eilidh have to work around us and the mess I make! Mind you 20 years of stuff isn’t easy to keep tidy! Can you believe It’s been 20 years since I started at QVC, Dale and I were reminiscing and reading Julia Roberts’ blog, a look through the years has been wonderful. She’s been amazing and kept so much, thank goodness as we all now have the chance to revisit it.
Joe and I are planning to do a fashion shoot too with some of my latest QVC fashion purchases. It’s work experience coming up for him at school, so along with coming into QVC he will be working alongside my friend who is a photographer as he is taking Photography at GCSE next year. Joe has taken some lovely shots of Maddie, do you reckon he could make me look like her?! Or more to the point can I still pose as I used to…
I found these shots from my early days and thought, showing off? Or, just enjoying and celebrating what I was… I’m going with the latter! Remember let’s not have those negative thoughts! So watch this space for shots of the more mature version of me!!!
Right I am off to organise a manicure and pedicure for… DAN! It’s his birthday and I figure a treat is in order, let’s hope he loves it.
Talking of love, much love to you all. Keep in touch with me won’t you? Here on my blog, on Twitter and on Instagram which I’m really enjoying. I love photographing lovely things, family things, random things and QVC things, so join me if you can.
