This time of year is a good one for the Morning Show, as we get more than our fair share of music guests who have released an album in time for the Christmas market.
Last week I was lucky enough to chat with the five members of The Overtones, the brilliant harmony boyband who first thrilled us with their doo-wop album Good Ol’ Fashioned Love five years ago. This time it was two tracks from their new CD Good Ol’ Fashioned Christmas that they performed, ‘Let it Snow’ and ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’. It’s a collection of Christmas favourites along with a couple of original songs the band wrote themselves, all performed in their own inimitable style – a fantastic album to play over the festive period.
Each of the five singers has a distinct voice and when you put them together the harmonies are just stunning. But what makes me love listening to them so much is the plain and pure joy they all exude – they obviously love performing together and have a great time. Their dance moves are sharp and slick and it all looks so much fun!
I wore my favourite Christmas jumper in honour of the subject of their CD and they were great to chat to as well – you can catch a second chance to hear what they had to say, and to buy the CD for just £9 including postage, here.
As I don’t usually work on Monday’s I won’t have the chance to meet Strictly judge Len Goodman when he joins us to tell us about the new CD that he has compiled. In fact, it is really three CDs containing a total of 57 tracks – a real Ballroom Bonanza of music. If you’ve ever listened to his radio show you’ll know that he enjoys a wide range of music, and that’s exactly what you’ll find on this fantastic value set of CDs, also £9 including postage. From Doris Day to Dolly Parton, Billy Joel to Ben E King, and Tom Jones to The Temptations, Len has selected music that’s perfect for the ballroom if you love to dance, but just as good to boogie around the kitchen to, or make a long, slow car journey pass a little more quickly. I enjoy CDs that have a compilation from a good mix of different artists as I have a pretty eclectic taste in music – there’s not much I don’t like. And I would say Len has got this spot on. It’s a great gift for all sorts of people.
We have other music available for you to buy so let me mention one last CD that I think you might enjoy over Christmas from the South London choir of boys from 7 to 16 years old, Libera. We used their music for some of our Christmas promotional videos and their voices are so beautiful – they create such a gorgeous, almost ethereal sound together. Again, their CD is just £9 including postage, which I think makes it perfect as a thoughtful gift, or just as a little treat for yourself or the family to enjoy listening to over the coming Christmas period.
I hope you are relaxed and calm, and looking forward to spending time with loved ones. My thoughts are with you if Christmas is a time you find difficult, as many people do. This time of goodwill, fun and frolics can make some people feel very terribly alone, and I hope you gain some comfort from joining us here at the family of QVC.
