The Last Day of May!

How can it be possible that it is already the last day of May? This year is speeding by at a rate of knots with my birthday just ten days away, publication day two weeks today, and the wedding less than three months away – more on all of that later!

Firstly, I hope you all enjoyed Bank Holiday, particularly if you had a day off from work. I was on QVC, but I didn’t mind as I had two hours of gardening shows, which I really enjoy. I wonder if any of you ordered the Gtech lawnmower? Mine arrived yesterday, just in the nick of time as the lawn will need doing at some point this weekend. Everything in the garden is coming on nicely, including my strawberry plants, which were a gardening Product of the Month earlier in the year. Flowers mean fruit, which I am looking forward to tasting.

I wonder if any of you recognise the lilies from the presenter lily-growing challenge – mine are still going strong and look as though they will flower in the next couple of weeks or so.

We also have the first poppy of the season – I have several poppy plants in the garden in memory of my beautiful old cat Poppy.

Speaking of cats, Wilfie got excited earlier in the week when this box arrived. Maybe he thought it was cat treats, but I knew better and was the one who was excited once the box was opened.

It was the paperback copies of my Little Girl Missing book, which is out two weeks today, along with the ebook and the audiobook. I have now listened to the prologue of the audiobook and I must commend the narrator for a great job – even I got goosebumps, and I knew what was coming!

I’ve also received the first round of edits for the second book in the series. It’s a bit nerve-wracking waiting to find out if your editor likes the story, but fortunately she did. The opening line in her email was:

‘Thanks so much for delivering a really fabulous novel, and a brilliant second case for DCI Rachel Hart!’

I didn’t add the exclamation mark, it was actually there!! Of course there are lots of stages of editing to go through, but what a fantastic initial reaction.

So my first book with Bookouture is out two weeks today, but between now and then I have another birthday. I can’t believe I will be SIXTY-THREE! On next week’s blog, I will be doing a list of my ‘can’t-do-without beauty products,’ but I’m not alone. All the presenters will be doing this at some point in the month as ALL of our beauty products will be on £1.95 P&P throughout June, which is QVC’s Beauty Month! If you’re interested in finding out what we can’t do without, keep checking our blogs.

I will most likely be making my own chocolate birthday cake, but I also baked one this morning. Taylor, my daughter Sophie’s stepson, was sixteen yesterday and they are hosting a barbecue to celebrate tomorrow. Taylor is a bit of a fan of my chocolate cake, so it’s the least I could do, particularly after he had a birthday fundraiser on Facebook and raised over five hundred pounds in aid of epilepsy, a cause very close to his and his family’s hearts.

So, this is my weekend off but I wanted to mention three fabulous beauty offers – two of which will be eligible for the reduced postage I mentioned, but the new Beauty Product of the Month from Elemis will have no P&P to pay, as is usual with the Beauty POM. It is the award-winning Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm but with a new fragrance… neroli! I’ve tried it and the aroma is gorgeous – it’s like walking through an orange grove. It will be at a special price too, so watch out for it launching on QVC tomorrow with Keeley.

As mentioned above, our wedding is less than three months away so the countdown is on for me to get everything in the best possible condition. I started with my eyebrows three weeks ago, using Revitabrow and I have already noticed the difference. They are thicker and darker, meaning better definition when I’m not wearing any make-up… most of the time on holiday! So next I need to start on my eyelashes, making it perfect timing for this Sunday’s TSV (238800) – Revitalash Conditioner and Primer Mascara. This has worked really well for me in the past but I had to stop using it as my lashes were brushing the inside of my glasses when I blinked!

Something else I need to stock up on before the wedding in Mauritius is Ultrasun, so I’ll be purchasing the TSV on Monday, 234998, the three-piece Supersize Sport Collection in a choice of SPF 20 or 30 – not for me, as I love my Ultrasun Tan Activator SPF 30, but for the male members of the wedding party. And remember, both these TSVs will have the £1.95 postage, along with all beauty products for the month of June.

Well, I must dash for my One Button jewellery show at 3pm, then Fashion on Friday at 5pm with Kim & Co and FOF on the Style Channel at 6pm, today with the wonderfully knowledgeable Lesley Ebbetts.

Have a wonderful weekend whatever you are up to and see you on-air next Thursday,
Much love,
Julia xx

      Hi Vanessa
So pleased to hear you love my books. How funny about the name – Rachel Hart is the main character for this whole series with Bookouture so I hope you will like her. I can’t believe it’s Publication Day next Friday!
Thanks for the early birthday wishes

Hi Julia, Many congratulations on your latest forthcoming novel and your birthday in 10 days time or as we say here in Wales ” Pemblws Hapus ” ! I know the feeling of amazement at turning 63 as it will be mine in October. I bumped into an old school friend at the polling station last week and we were saying how the time has flown and how we can’t believe we’re the ages we are! Where does the time go to?
Loved seeing the photo’s of Wilfie. Cat’s are so funny. I could watch them all day. I love dogs as well though and used to have a Golden Retriever when I was at home. But I must admit I’m a cat person really.
Hope you are keeping well and all ‘s well with the wedding arrangement’s. It will be here before you know it.
Take care, all the best, Tina S. X

      Hi Tina
Thanks for the early birthday wishes – years ago we would have been retired by now, but I can’t imagine not working. I’m not sure I’ll ever retire completely.
Wilfie is such a character – I am still hankering after getting a Dalmatian puppy – maybe after the wedding.
Having the actual paperbacks of Little Girl Missing has made it all very real & really rather exciting.
