The last blog of 2012!

Debbie, Dale and JillyThis week…

The last blog of 2012 – and what a year it was!

– QVC presenter’s Xmas lunch! Do Jilly and I need the no!no!?! Lol
– And a belter of a blooper – Glen’s ‘weather finger’ Fail!
– And your top festive song and film!

The presenters' Christmas lunchOf course by the time you read this everything will be over bar the shouting, and we’re all going to be preparing for New Year! And what a busy last week or so this has been!

As you can see from the top pic, we had a fun Xmas presenters’ lunch on Friday – happily the world didn’t end, and ten or so of us invaded the new ‘local’ – a pub near our new studios in Chiswick Park – for a festive celebration! It’s unusual for so many of us to be in one place at once!

And of course the usual cracker prizes were put to good use! Although as many of you said if you saw the plentiful updates being tweeted live during the lunch by several of us on Twitter – ‘looks like you and Jilly need the NoNo for Xmas! Haha! Very funny – and original (not!) lol!

It was a good laugh and I was so glad to have been able to go to it – even though some of us had to rush back to be on air that same evening! And in case you wondered – we organise two lunches so there is indeed someone still back at base on air! Lol.

The family doYou know the song ‘It’s beginning to feel a lot like Xmas’?! Well I always know it’s really truly arrived when the annual ‘Cousins’ Bash’ is upon us!

You may recall if you’re a regular that I organise one every year, the Sunday before Xmas, for my kids and their thirteen cousins and relatives and other halves! Well last December, after squeezing 30 people into my little 3 bed house, THIS year, I hired a local hall! Good move!

Nearly everyone turned up, and we had a lot of fun, including ‘best Xmas jumper’ comp, secret santas etc, swapped pressies and the kids got to see all their cousins (well nearly all) at least once over yuletide. And the macrobiotic dishes were amongst the first to go! Hah!

Then on Xmas Eve I made a wicked meatloaf and spring greens with sesame seeds and miso ready for taking to my sister’s. I got the whole house ready and my two kids arrived for a lovely Xmas eve! We had a lovely lovely time, as usual watching National Lampoon’s Xmas Vacation then opening a little pressie each just after midnight. And our usual Xmas morning breakfast included a slightly revised version this year – miso added value! Lol.

Debbie with Kari, Brad and Lolly on Christmas morning Debbie in her hat

Our present opening session then ensued – including one of my fave’s from son Brad – a weird hat-shaped pressie – which turned out to be a clown’s hat and two tickets for him and me to go see Cirque du Soleil in Jan – cool! And fave one from daughter Lolly included a wonderful tea set with loose teas to go in it (I’ve got a bit of a thing for tea sets! I’m really an 80 year old stuck inside a 50 year old’s body, in case you hadn’t already realised! Lol!).

Debbie and Linda The fireplace - the fave bit of Christmas

Then it was time to go to sister’s for the big day! My lovely sis Linda – who is a guest on QVC for Red Carpet Manicure.

My fave bit of Xmas is being all snuggly at home, including with my pretty wood-burning stove roaring away. (ok, spot the qvc products in the picture above!! Lol). And spending much of it with my nearest and dearest, specially having both my lovely kids around me, including my daughter-in-law-to-be, my first Xmas with son’s fiancée Kari too. And overdosing on xmassy stuff including all the progs, films and music!

Just before Xmas, I asked my fab Facebook friends and tweeps to take part in a snap poll – fave Xmas movie and fave Xmas song. The results were as follows – (imagine old Alan Freeman Pick of the Pops music playing…!!)

At 3 – that old classic – Slade’s ‘Merry Xmas Everybody!’
At 2 – he got beaten in the pop charts by Slade, but pips them to the number two slot in this list – Wizzard and ‘I wish it could be Xmas every day!’
And at 1 – the most anti-Xmas of Xmas songs – but everybody’s favourite – The Pogues with the lovely late Kirsty McColl, and ‘Fairytale of New York’.

I still believeTOP XMAS FILM

At 3 – National Lampoon’s Xmas Vacation
At 2 – Miracle on 34th St (either version)
And at 1 – it had to be – 'It’s a Wonderful Life!'

And now it’s your turn – leave me a comment below and tell me what YOUR best pressie or Xmas experience or favourite show was this year!

A final fresh blooper for you from last week on QVC. Oh how we laughed!

On one of the last Centigrade shows of the year, our lovely fashion expert Glen Campbell had been on all day, and was on fine form. I had the joy of being on his final show on TSV day especially when he did this!

Haha! How funny! Definitely one of the best of the year – as much for his reaction as anything! Lol! Oh and don’t forget to check out Glen’s own range of men’s cashmere jumpers – if you go to his website am sure you’ll find out more!

Next week – a look back to a fab year and some classic bloopers.

Debbie's Christmas Day messageSome other little nuggets for you to end the year with – and all to make you smile! I loved this message (picture left) – it was what I put on my Facebook etc on Xmas Day. Do send me a friend request or follow me on Twitter – info below!

The below picture of the cat in the tree – long story – is one last funny to make you smile and the picture of Norman Wisdom is about remembering those not with us – family, friends and some super famous faces we knew and loved, including the legendary Norman Wisdom. I liked this little pic circulating on Facebook this week so thought I’d share it with you. Especially considering he was my lovely late Dad’s fave, who has been gone 20 years as of this year. Gosh how time flies!

It's a long story Norman Wisdom

Debbie's Grandma in her hatAnd I’d just like to take this opportunity to say fondest love and remembrances for my kids’ lovely Grandma, Annie Carter, who sadly passed away on Boxing Day too after a long long illness. She was there with me, bless her, helping me to take care of my two, through some of my toughest times, eg. when my marriage was breaking up, plus new house, new job.

And she gave me, Brad and Lauren some wonderful memories – like when a helicopter came over the top of our home when we lived in Tiptree in Essex and she ran to hide in the shed ‘because I thought they were coming for me, Deb’… bless you Grandma, and rest in peace.

And thoughts are with any of you who have loved ones you miss particularly at this time of year (I do recommend Anita Moorjani’s beautiful book ‘dying to be me’ – you’ll also find her inspiring speeches on YouTube). And love to all of Annie’s relations – I’m thinking of you all.

CorrrrrAnd for those of you thinking ahead now to warmer days and sunnier climes, here’s one of my favourite pics for the romantics everywhere – I never give up hope that I’ll be treated to one of these sights some day! Here’s wishing it for you too! Or if not, just close your eyes and take yourself there and dream those dreams!

Well considering there’s too much wonderful telly to choose from this time of year, I’ll just give you a trailer for a new film called ‘Quartet’ due out on New Year’s Day – if you go see it, let’s compare reviews next week!

Well it’s all go for me, after 27th, as by the time you read this, my festive break will be over and I’ll be back into my regular shifts on QVC UK! Join me every night 28-31 Dec and don’t forget the sale and outlet shows you’ll find in abundance at that time. I’ll have some Xmas outlet stuff on Friday tea time (28th) and some fun with Charlie Bears on New Year’s Eve early evening too – join us if you can if you’re a ‘stayer-inner’ not a ‘going outer’!

I plan to ask for some input live on air from you all – via Twitter/text/calls and Facebook – for some fun facts – about Xmas and new year – which I can pepper across the shows. Like ‘did you know the most successful yuletide song ever 'White Christmas' was in fact first sung by Bing Crosby in the movie ‘Holiday Inn’ which also starred Fred Astaire? It was in black and white and made in 1942 – twelve years before the much more famous film ‘White Christmas’ with Danny Kaye and George’s aunt, Rosemary Clooney, which also featured Bing singing the same iconic xmas hit?

Brush off your ‘fascinating facts’ and join me if you can! Or leave some below ready for me to read out! You just have to comment in the box below, add your email (kept private) and a name (any), press ‘post’ and there you go! Our lovely web team will check them for you and get them put up hopefully before the weekend. Let me know your comments on anything above.

Well that’s it for now. Till then, have a fabulous break and a happy New Year!

Best wishes Debs x
