The carpets are down…

As predicted in last week’s blog, I spent most of my day off last Sunday gloss-painting skirting boards and door frames in preparation for the carpet fitters’ arrival on Wednesday. It has been quite a job, but I am so pleased with the results. We have had carpet laid in all three bedrooms, the attic rooms, and the staircase leading up to them. I thought a little slide show would be the best way to share the fruits of our labours.

The trouble is, what do you do with your furniture while they are being laid? We had beds piled on beds and, thankfully, have space in the gym at the bottom of the garden for temporary storage. There has been a lot of furniture-shifting going on, not least my office desk which is now up on the top floor after a lot of careful manoeuvring – it is where I am sitting right now to write this blog!

There is so much light on the top floor of the house because of all the roof windows, very handy when I am spending hours at my writing desk working on my novels. Chris even built me a bookcase up here to store my favourite books to read and the ones I have written have a special shelf. Although I have a way to go to fill it, I’m determined to get there as I have so many ideas clamouring to be written. There is also the perfect space for my Kelly Hoppen vase!

It’s been quite a week for me at QVC too, as Monday was the 24th anniversary of my first day with the channel. It was four weeks before the launch on October 1st 1993 and our first day comprised of group and individual photo sessions. I popped this photo up on Facebook and Instagram and have had loads of comments from those of you who have been watching since day one – lots of you even recalling your first purchase!

True, there have been many changes over the years, but it is still an amazing place to work and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity I was given.

With iconic fashion events taking place soon around the world, next week on QVC the focus is firmly on your wardrobe. There will be dedicated fashion hours at 9pm every evening and a full day of fashion on the 15th itself. There are also three stylish Today’s Special Values. On Monday there is a gorgeous Amanda Wakeley hobo bag, Tuesday it’s Denim & Co. jeans, and next Friday it’s a roll neck jumper from H by Halston.

If you’re putting together some pieces for your autumn wardrobe, now that the weather is changing, make sure you dip in from time to time. Also check out the Style channel’s Look of the Week outfit below.

Well, I’m very excited to report that I am going to the Last Night of the Proms tomorrow. It’s something I have always wanted to do and a friend of my son has offered us his box this year. I can’t wait to join in with Land of Hope and Glory – anyone know where I can buy a flag? I’ll put some pictures on here next week.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Julia x

      Hi Denise
It is definitely a ‘work in progress’ – the attic rooms look great, next stop the family bathroom!
The Last Night of the Proms was brilliant – more about it on this week’s blog

So jealous of you going to the Last Night of the Proms. Have an amazing time- I have been watching it for many years and join in with the singing from my chair. The atmosphere comes through and it is just an amazing night even with the television coverage. Being there is a lifetime ambition which will probably never happen for me and I am so pleased you are going. I look forward to reading all about it on your blog. Enjoy.xx

      Hi Josephine,
We had a great time thanks although I was a little hoarse the next day after all the singing and cheering. Pics and stuff on my new blog tomorrow
