As predicted by the weather forecasters, the ‘Beast from the East’ has struck the UK with a vengeance this week. I hope you’ve all managed to keep warm and stay safe in some pretty dreadful conditions! Little did I realise, when I opened my ‘secret Santa’ present at the QVC Presenter’s Christmas lunch back in December, just how useful these thermal, fleecy-lined socks were going to be! Thanks Eilidh… I guess it should be called a ‘not so secret Santa’ as we all managed to work out what was from who, if you get my drift.
On the subject of drifts, him indoors very kindly cleared the snow from my car yesterday morning before I left for QVC, and then walked down our lane behind me just in case I needed a push before I got to the main road which had been gritted.
The conditions weren’t too bad on the main roads and motorways in our area but I know that’s not the case for everyone. I hope you’re heeding advice and only venturing out if it’s absolutely necessary.
Back to the socks, I was wearing them to keep my feet warm up in the loft room on Tuesday while I was getting on with some writing. That’s when I took this video of the snow…

It really was quite heavy and settled to about three or four inches – not enough to make a snow man though. It’s weird to get the harshest weather of this winter just as we head in to March. Happy belated St David’s Day to all my Welsh readers, by the way.
So we are now in March, which marks the beginning of QVC’s Sleep Better campaign. There will be lots of sleep-related shows throughout the month, everything from beds and bedding to the wonderful This Works pillow spray. As you probably already know, I am a huge fan of this product so I was delighted when This Works approached me for a quote to include in their latest sleep report. Their project includes lots of information on why sleep is so important for our skin and general well-being.
If you find it difficult to get to sleep use our 30-day (or should it be night?) money-back guarantee and try it for yourself – truly, I don’t go to bed without it!
Talking of looking after your skin, here’s a heads up if you are a fan of SkinSense by Abi Cleeve. We have a five-piece Today’s Special Value on Monday, including: Overnight Leave-on mask (which we struggle to keep in stock), Day Cream, Restorative Eye Cream, Plumping Lip Cream and the Anti-Aging Night Cream. It’s still a fairly new brand but judging by the reviews on our website it has impressed a lot of people who have tried it.
I tried something new last night to take my make-up off. I may shock one or two of you by saying I’m not the biggest fan of the Elemis Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm, and I realise I am probably in a minority. I like the texture and I love a balm to cleanse with but the blend of aromatics is just a bit overpowering for me, so imagine how delighted I am that Elemis have created a Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm with Rose at its heart. It is gorgeous!
It only launched yesterday on-air as our Beauty Product of the Month, and thousands have already sold. If you haven’t used a balm cleanser before, do try it as it turns to a milk when you add a few drops of water. I hope it’s not going to be a limited edition – I’ll have to start a petition!
That would make a lovely gift for Mother’s Day, which is now only a week away, but we’ll also have lots of other great ideas for your Mum on Triple Day tomorrow. Everything will be available in 3-Easy Payments to celebrate the third day of the third month. The event’s Today’s Special Value from Yankee Candle and is already available to pre-order. The set comprises; two medium jars, two small jars, two boxes of tea-lights and two car jars (which are ideal for cupboards etc. if you don’t have a car) – all you need to do is choose your fragrance.
I’ve gone for Shea Butter but there’s also Clean Cotton, Fresh Cut Roses, Lavender, Midnight Jasmine, and Sicilian Lemon. I’m looking forward to my 11am show tomorrow morning, after the special Saturday Morning Show with Simon Biagi.
I’m also on-air on Sunday morning at 11am with the Today’s Special Value from IT Cosmetics, so I hope you can join me for that too. At least QVC are currently running a promotion (until 11.59pm on Sunday 4th) to earn a £10 voucher of your next purchase if you spend £100 or more, and it doesn’t all have to be on one product. If you love shopping with us, you definitely want to take advantage of this before it ends.
Before I finish, I wanted to mention that as we have now moved in to March we have a new birthstone of the month on our website – aquamarine. The word literally means ‘seawater’ and it can come in various different shades from the very pale (almost silvery) to a much deeper shade and, like tanzanite, is graded using the A’s system. It is purported to be calming, soothing and cleansing and to inspire truth, trust and letting go, but, as with all such meanings for stones, that’s only if you choose to believe it.
I wanted to highlight a couple of pieces I particularly like. You probably remember the amethyst three-stone ring I featured last month? Well, we have exactly the same design featuring an AAA aquamarine flanked by round diamonds. I wore it on air yesterday, along with a stunning angel wing pendant and matching earrings, both of which were admired by our Diamonique ambassador Alison O’Reilly. She wasn’t on QVC yesterday so why was she in the building… all will be revealed very soon, I promise!
Right, I must go as I don’t want to be rushing around in the snow. Stay safe and warm.
