If you’re stumped for gift ideas for this festive season, have no fear, our brilliant tech experts have a whole host of ideas for everyone on your list. Whether you’ve got a sibling who loves their tech or a friend that deserves something extra special this year – from stocking fillers to big brand, big ticket gifts, we’ve got the lot – so take a look at what our tech guests, Mat Trim, Rebecca Perfect, Lee Hohbein and Ella Williamson are talking about…
Christmas starts early here at QVC and for good reason, the festive season is all about planning, get that right and it will be a great occasion enjoyed by all. Buying Christmas gifts for friends and family can be difficult sometimes but QVC offer some great tech ideas and buying is totally stress free, which is why it’s my go-to place for all my presents for the coming season.
Now if its tech you’re looking for, QVC offer so much choice. I buy pretty much all my gifts and gadgets from QVC knowing that they have all the top brands, and the deals are so good they cannot be missed, plus if the gift isn’t just right it can be returned no quibble after Christmas – you can’t get better that that!
QVC have asked me for my top four products to look out for this season on the tech side of things so here my four choices, one luxury, one mid price, one budget and one essential…
Luxury – The Apple iMac 27’ 5K – now if you really want to make someone’s Christmas, get them this – it takes personal computing to another level. The quality of the screen is breathtaking and the speed is lightning fast. For work and play there is nothing like the iMac! The design, ease of use and sheer power of this “all in one” make it the must-have luxury gift this Christmas.
Mid-price – Bose QuietComfort 25 headphones – These are my favourite headphones (as worn by Beck who loves music). I love music and am a bit of a bore when it comes to sound quality (I only listen to uncompressed music) and these deliver the best sound I have found and coupled with the noise cancelling – which by the way, works and doesn’t compromise the audio quality – you really get what you pay for with these outstanding headphones.
Budget – FixMeStick – this is all about removing nasties (malware) from your Windows PC, so if you want to give peace of mind this Christmas this is the ideal gift. Simple to use and actually used by IT professionals, this is the ultimate solution to removing some pretty nasty malware that is slowing your PC down and potentially causing lot more problems associated with computer viruses, Trojans, worms, bots etc.
Essential – CPR V500 Call Blocker – my father-in-law is 93 and his mobility is very limited coupled with the fact that he is registered blind, the last thing he needs is unsolicited phone calls day and night trying to sell him services and stuff he just doesn’t need! They are a real nuisance and they wind him up no end… but not anymore with this ingenious device, if they manage to get through in the first place, he just pushes the red button and zap they have gone for good!! He absolutely loves it and the Call Blocker has actually made his life better because now he feels empowered having control over these nuisance calls.
If you’re anything like my family, then there’s at least one member who has every gadget under the sun (ok, I admit it, in my family that’s definitely me!) and in this ever growing technological society that we live in, the need to keep everything powered up at all times has never been more prevalent.
So, treat yourself (or a loved one) to this ultimate stocking filler, the PowerCube 3m UK Socket Extender, it comes with four power outlets and two USB ports. So no matter where you’re travelling to over the Christmas period and beyond, this little gadget ensures that you never miss a beat with your favourite technology and are topped up with that all important computer/smartphone/audio charge whenever you need it!
The Sphero BB-8 Droid was the perfect present last year as Star Wars mania took hold, and this year it’s just as desirable for collectors, film fans and children alike. It doesn’t just look cute; the BB-8 is a bundle of super smart technology that will keep you entertained for hours on end.
This droid connects to your smartphone allowing you to control its every move. Master the technique of managing BB-8 on its adventures, as well as having the ability to explore new surroundings on its own and showing you glimpses of the Star Wars universe via augmented reality. It really is the ultimate Christmas treat for any movie and tech fan.
This Bose speaker is most definitely on my Christmas wish list, being a lover of music and movies. So, if you’re after unprecedented sound to accompany your favourite film or festive season soundtrack, then there really isn’t a sound bar better than the Bose Solo 5. You’ll be amazed at what this simple looking speaker block can do, from giving you incredible cinematic sound that really bounces off the walls, to crisp clear notes of your favourite music, this sound bar sits quietly and unassumingly near your television and will wow all your friends and family when you’re entertaining throughout the Christmas period.
Can you believe it’s now October? Where is the year going? Before you know it we’ll be in December and the festivities will be upon us. Perhaps the time whizzing by so quickly is symptomatic of me getting older or perhaps it’s my endless excitement for Christmas? I’m definitely going for the latter. As part of the QVC team I get to start thinking about Christmas in July and that’s just fine with me.
So what does a man that lives, breathes and loves technology, use the most in the run up and over the festive period? Well here are my fave tech items that are never far from my side once the tree goes up and White Christmas starts playing on an endless loop in my home… How could I not mention the TV and Christmas together? It’s surely one of the most popular pieces of technology around the Christmas period?
As a kid I remember getting out the ruler and highlighter pen with the family and planning our viewing schedule in the Radio Times from the whole 4 channels available! 30 years on and we now have a few hundred channels to choose from but there’s still nothing like huddling around the TV and watching some festive classics. The beauty of modern technology is that we now have smart TVs so we can watch what we want, when we want. Even in October!
I make no secret of my love for the Kindle. There’s nothing more wonderful than losing yourself in a good book and as the nights draw in, it’s so wonderful to snuggle up in a warm corner and get lost in some literature. I can even sneak away in the dark now with the Kindle Paperwhite which has a light built in. That’ll come in handy when it starts getting dark at 3pm!
Since getting my first Fitbit 18 months ago I’m a certified Fitbit addict. All those mince pies and glasses of mulled wine over the Christmas period make this even more essential during the season of excess. The ability to monitor your sleep with the Fitbit has become one of my favourite things and has allowed me to attempt to get more regular/solid sleep. Let’s see how that works over the festive party season!
What can’t you do with a smartphone? My iPhone is my tech partner every day of the year but especially at Christmas time. From buying gifts to creating lists, to shopping for groceries and organising all of those festive gatherings, this is one piece of kit that I can never be without. Naturally it’ll also be used for taking a ton of silly pics in the lead up to the big day (and even more on New Years Eve!).
So what’s on your wish list for Christmas? Tablets are expected to be a big seller again in 2016 and wearable tech is also going to be huge this year. Will you be hoping for a Fitbit or an Apple Watch under the tree? I have the Amazon Echo on my wish list. An incredible 360 degree speaker that you can also talk to. It’s been a huge success in the USA and it’s finally here in the UK. Thankfully I won’t have to wait too long to ask Santa to ‘tap the app’ as it’s appearing on QVC on 16th October at midnight, 11am and 5pm (now there’s a scoop for you).
Keep your eyes peeled for tech shows over the next few months. We have some amazing offers coming up with products and prices to suit everyone. As always get in touch at ‘leeqvc’ on Twitter and Facebook. I’d love to hear about what you’re wishing for and any products that you would like to see making an appearance at QVC.
Wishing you good luck for all of your preparation in the run-up to Christmas and I hope that technology will help you along the way a little.
The air is getting chillier, I’m digging out my woolies and I am covered in a low level layer of glitter – it can only mean one thing – Christmas is around the corner.
So this year the 25th is extra special to me because on 25th November I am expecting my first child, and on 25th December I get to celebrate Christmas for the first time with my son or daughter. I am so nervous and so excited about the whole thing. This also means that I have to be extra-organised when it comes to Christmas this year and get my pressies sorted earlier than most years.
Thank goodness for QVC – I have already got quite a few QVC items earmarked for Christmas presents – and also with a little treat for myself along the way from the beauty department. So here are my tech recommendations for presents this Christmas…
This Knomo bag has it all – stunning looks, hands-free practicality and super-charging powers. This is the perfect choice for busy worker-bees that want to keep their laptops, tablets and smartphones protected and powered-up on the go using the integrated battery pack, whilst at the same time looking sleek and fabulous. Another winner from Knomo.
Security and home safety are paramount with this dinky home monitoring device from Canary. Live stream your home and loved ones when you can’t be there, be alerted to any unprecedented movements when you’re away from home, and monitor your home temperature and air quality to check that all is as it should be. And if it isn’t – you’re the first to know and are ready for action.
A good looking, watchy-looking smart watch. You wouldn’t think that this sophisticated looking analogue watch could monitor your activity, sleep and even swimming would you? It’s from Withings, who focus as much on aesthetics as they do on the ingenious technology under the hood. This is the activity tracker for those people who have shied away from digital activity trackers.
The gift of a good book is a classic Christmas gift. But what about the gift of thousands of books. Best present-giver of the year title goes to you right?! Download great value books in seconds, wherever you are with the Kindle – and reading in the brightest sunlight or the dimmest room is a breeze.
I hope this helps with your quest to bring some Christmas cheer this December. Wishing you a lovely build-up to the festive season and look forward to hopping into your television screen soon.
