Taking up baking and a Yankee Candle special

3

It’s been a bit of a food and tearooms type of week, not that I’m complaining! This week I had to make four cakes, and ended up doing the most delicious carrot cake I have ever made! I asked for a recipe from the social media clan, and had several to choose from. In the end I used a combination, including one from Alexa! (Go here to see our Amazon echo offers) in addition I also made a tasty banana bread, which my neighbour Helen ended up buying the remainder of, for her own get-together! Plus some tasty looking flapjacks, and really delicious gluten-free brownies. I love the idea of everything about tearooms, and was very pleased when several friends dropped in for a cuppa and a slice.

Sadly I finished off too many of the crumbs! And the carrot cake was definitely the best…

On the other hand, when I am up in London, working at QVC, I will often go to my favourite tearooms in Carshalton. Just after I have had my nails done with my sister, around the corner, and have time to spare – which is how I found myself in front of this appetising view last week. I must say happiness is definitely being in my favourite places with my favourite foods. They do a wicked coronation chicken on granary with extra salad. And loose tea leaves and a little tea strainer… Heaven! I should have been born 75 I think, I have always loved tearooms.

See below for my other outings involving sustenance last week… Good job this week’s big deal is a stretchy pair of Marla Wynne trousers ha ha.

SNIPPETS

Brilliant Bodyblade Bruce

Last week’s visit was so busy, I’m not sure if there are any Bodyblades left in stock but there are some workout DVDs – get one if you can. Bruce and I then went to have dinner afterwards and had a good catch up. His own little granddaughter is not far off the same age as my Blake, who is 15 months old. So we share lots of stories about being a grandparent. I do hope he comes back soon, we need more Bodyblades!

Blooming bulbs

I’m so pleased with the bulbs all coming up in my garden – some very pretty tulips and these unusual daffodils, so far. I am determined this year to grow lots of veg as well, but I must do it next week as I will have missed the spring planting time otherwise. Looking forward to more from Richard Jackson, and feeding everything with the plant food! It works really, really well.

Baby shower

Another week, another niece, another baby shower. My lovely niece Jodie had her get together with all the girls this week as well, and it was very nice to see everybody, albeit I had to rush away to work again early. Jodie’s Baby is due in May so she had her baby shower early. The day after, her sister gave birth early to her own little baby boy – congratulations to my niece Libby and the arrival of beautiful baby Theo. Also big congratulations to my brother Derek Libby’s dad, who joins the four of us in grandparent land. Only one more brother to become a grandparent now! Although Glenn’s daughters are just 12 and 10 so it will be a while yet I’m sure. My lovely daughter Lauren was there too with little baby Phoebe. That means I have had grandbaby time every weekend for the last few weeks!

Claire and me saying congrats

This week on QVC one of the QVC family had a wedding and the other had a fabulous announcement. Can you guess who? This was Claire and myself behind-the-scenes congratulating them! We have our own presenter WhatsApp group, and some of the banter is very funny – but some of it, well all I can say is it’s a good job none of the management are on there as it gets a bit naughty! Ha ha.

Watch

All I can say is Fleabag Fleabag Fleabag. I have absolutely loved this show. I have watched both series in quick succession and I have to say that the writer Phoebe is absolutely a genius. I am a little bit in love with the priest. His name is Andrew Scott and there is a photograph of him doing the rounds on Twitter – it says this man manages to look like both Ant and DEC at the same time. You can’t unsee that connection either. However, he is very, very fanciable in Fleabag! And I do hope there is a third series. Catch it on iPlayer if you can – so original and so darn funny!

Book of the week

A certain book caught my eye on social media this week so I thought I would mention it. Marianne Power’s ‘Help Me’ seems to be gaining a lot of traction. And a lot of attention. It is follows one lady’s year in a life where she uses different self-help books to go and do different things… If you liked ‘eat pray love’ you may love this! I have got it on my list…

Vlog of the week

As usual a pretty packed week but I managed to post a couple of blogs on my Debbie Flint QVC chat Facebook page. Go here to see the one with the birdsong and the sunshine – annnnd breeeeeathe!!
