Hey everybody, how are you all? I have had quite a busy week this week. I think I mentioned before that the end of term for the kids has been non-stop. I am just about keeping up with everything that’s going on. Thank goodness for Whatsapp groups is all I can say or I would forget most things that are happening.
This last week we had two school information evenings in one evening! So I was rushing from one school to another to find out about the new classes, teachers and school info that we needed to know for when Tilda moves schools and Ivy starts for the first time. I’m feeling really positive about Tilda’s new school and think it may even end up being the better school for her. I think I had put the shutters down on it while we were appealing and I was ignoring all the amazing things it had to offer.
We found out Ivy’s class and teachers too and I’m really pleased to say one of her teachers is male which I was hoping for. She really responds well to the men in her world and I think it will be really good for her. He’s also left-handed as is Ivy which is a small thing but it means I know there is someone who will help her to grasp writing as she tends to shy away from it so far. Parenthood eh? So much to consider! This Friday we also have Tilda and Ivy’s settling in days, known as Transfer Day. I get to go to Ivy’s on this first session which will be really fun to see her in her new environment and see the friends she will make!
It’s not all been school stuff though, I was off at the weekend so we packed it with fun. On Saturday evening we had a friends 50th Birthday to go to. Well technically it was dubbed a 136th Birthday party as it was a 70th, 50th and 16th all rolled into one. Three generations of one family! It was superhero themed and so Fred and I dug out Batman and Batgirl costumes from a party nearly 10 years ago!!
They were just about useable from being in the loft for that time and I have to admit to adding leggings this time around, I just can’t get away with something that short post children haha!! It was great fun and so good to get out and let our hair down a bit with friends. We danced, laughed and were generally a bit silly as you always end up being when you are in fancy dress. My friend Becki was also in her same outfit from 10 years ago too, not bad for all of us managing to get into them eh?!
On Sunday we brushed off any hangovers with a long walk at Moors Valley with the kids. It’s a vast place and every time we go we find a new area that we didn’t know about. There are so many trails to follow and each time you discover another play area and climbing frame. The picture of me and the girls is actually a tree-top walkway which is a great way to see more of the forest.
We were also collecting fir cones and broken twigs for Tilda’s school project. They are making a bug hotel at school! If you are wondering what on earth a bug hotel is it’s basically a manmade habitat to encourage the insects to thrive, like them or loath them we need them. I’m hoping she doesn’t bring it home though!!
What I’m using in Beauty – Philip Kingsley Elasticizer
Beauty Month may be over but there are still great offers to be found. The Beauty Pick of the Month is from Philip Kingsley and it’s a whopping 1Litre bottle of the brand new aromatic Rose & Lychee Elasticizer. It’s as much about the beautiful aromatherapy while using it as it is about the treatment for your hair as it’s soothing and calming. I often mention this product and with good reason, it sorts out my hair when it’s dull, tired, dry and in need of TLC.
Colour treated hair as we know can get dry and I also live down by the sea and I’m out in the salty air with the sun and sand all adding to the damage. I really must decant some into a smaller bottle and take it with me on these days and put it on at the beach. It loves the warm to help activate it so it’s perfect for poolside on holidays, just make sure to wash it out before you go in the pool!
For those who don’t know, it’s an intensive pre-wash conditioner. You wet your hair and then coat it with the product. Wrap your hair in a Turby Twist or towel and let it soak up all the gorgeous conditioner. Leave for 20 minutes, hours or even overnight depending on the time you have and the help your hair needs! I have done a video of it for you on my Instagram IGTV that you can watch by clicking here so you can see how I use it. Excuse my grubby post workout hair, but I wanted you to see it put to hard work!
What’s new to QVC – Annie Haak
I am very excited to tell you that beautiful jeweller Annie Haak has joined the QVC family! Her premier show will be this Saturday on Jewellery Day with me at 2pm. Annie’s story is inspiring as the range was born from a number of very sad events. Annie lost her parents within months of each other and not long after, she was called to say that her husband had been involved in a motorbike accident in Bali. She flew to be with him and was by his side while he recovered but it was touch and go.
While she was in Bali she was inspired to start something new and while chatting to her lovely taxi driver Gusti who told her about a local silversmith the seed for the jewellery range was sewn. The collections are all inspired by symbolism and pieces that represent love, guardian angels, travel and nature. I have been wearing a number of the pieces on air recently and have already had lots of messages asking me about them.
You can see some of the pieces on our website but there will be even more joining us soon. I love the long Gold Tipped Feather particularly and the guardian angel earrings. The stackable bracelets are gorgeous and are the sort of collection someone will want to collect and add to over the years. You will find prices ranging from £29 to over £200 so I hope we will be able to bring you something affordable for everyone. I hope you will join us on Jewellery Day to see the full show.
What I’ve been buying – BundleBerry Woven Baskets
I can’t get enough storage baskets in my life! There is always something that needs a home, particularly toys in our house! I hate seeing all the plastic lying around and so I like to be able to hide it away. So I bought these gorgeous purple storage baskets for the girls’ bedroom, although I may pinch one for myself to put hair things in.
I love the pop of colour and the chunky woven design is really fun. They nest inside each other too if you want to store them away but they are so lovely to have out on show. As they are open topped they are also really easy for the kids to help tidy up as they can simply throw their cuddly toys and dolls in without too much bother. Ivy, as you can see has different ideas and has decided the big one is actually a boat. I won’t argue with her!
What’s coming to QVC – Nails Inc offer
Hurray it’s time to mix up your nail colours with our latest Today’s Special Value from Nails Inc. It’s the Saved by the Beach Collection and it’s packed with 6 gorgeous colours for summer and beyond, plus their world renowned top coat. I’ve been wearing some of these colours on air and I still have more to try.
Favourites so far however are Poolside Paradise which is that gorgeous Coral. Then Got the Rose Factor, which is that fabulous fuchsia. I had a number of people ask what my nail colour was when I wore the coral particularly. There are some beautiful metallics in this collection too! Each polish gives full coverage and glossy results. It’s also available from tomorrow on pre-sell!!
What I’ve been cooking – Vegetable Orzo
This was a bit of a thrown together meal. I wanted to have a meat free Monday and make sure we were getting plenty of different colour vegetables into the mix.
I used –
1 pack of vine tomatoes
1 large sweet potato, peeled
1 red onion
3 cloves garlic – peeled and chopped into halves
Dry Sage (or use whatever dry herbs that you fancy)
I chopped them all into chunks and added to a big ovenproof dish then salted them with flaky sea salt then sprinkled with dry Sage and dry Basil. I drizzled on rapeseed oil (olive would be fine too) and popped it in the oven for 30 mins.
Meanwhile I boiled Orzo Pasta in a pan of vegetable stock until soft. Once the vegetables where cooked I added the Orzo and some of the stock to the dish and mixed it in. Really, really simple, tasty and meat-free. Also Vegan friendly too. It was a nice change for us but this dish would also be a good side dish for a BBQ too.
The winner of my competition
Congratulations to Tanya Spencer-Ashby who won the Evolve Organic Beauty Competition over on my Instagram. We shall post out your prize this week. Thank you to Claire Sutton for randomly selecting the winner for me.
So there you go, another week that has flown by. As always let me know in the comments what you’ve been enjoying and buying from QVC and make sure to keep up with me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
Lots of Love Katy xx
