Sunshine makes your heart sing…well it did mine!

Tom feeling poorlyOk so I admit it wasn’t sunny ALL the time – and we even had the sick bug do the rounds! Would you believe it on holiday? How dare those germs! Luckily it was a horrid but short-lived bug, so although Tom looks quite pitiful in the picture, he was back to fighting fit the next evening as indeed each of us were. How rare to all return home from a holiday a smidge lighter as we all missed a meal or two (better for the pocket at least)! All that aside, to actually feel the sun’s warmth on our skin, to see freckles and a healthy looking glow …the pallor of January erased, momentarily at least! Was quite simply a wonderful treat.

A quiet and relaxed momentWe stayed in a super place that we have been to before, which is vast, even though the hotel was pretty booked up you didn’t really see many people, although we bumped into Alix Poletski, the hotel inspector, was she checking out the hotel? I think not – like us, she was just enjoying a break with her family.

I had to stop Dan from sending Maddie over to ask a lady poolside if she were a famous actress! he was convinced and was googling her, poor lady, she did look really like her, but I think he was just wishing it was her!

Maddie in the poolI am so acutely aware of how much my three have grown when I look back at pictures from previous years…poor Dan is still managing to heave them out of the water…just!

For the children, an instant connection at the airport was made with them sleepily eyeing up two other children. They all obviously liked the look of each other and by the time we had our cases (I’m always fearful that the carousel will fail to show mine!), they were thrilled to realise we were heading to the same place.

I’m always aware that holidays are family time but that said, we seemed to easily segway into Tom delightedly greeting them each morning and plonking himself down on their set of sun beds! We were useless at saving the sun loungers and invariably were struggling to get a spot, so to “lose ” a child -so to speak – to another family worked quite well and as the children seemed to live in the pool we only had to ensure the dry towels were plentiful!

Tom in the pool

Joe in the pool

Maddie with UltraSunGoing constantly in and out of the pool meant I was even more grateful to be slathering a good layer of Ultrasun Family Protection on. As the sun was a tad sporadic, the once a day application which makes Ultrasun so genius was perfect – no red bits, no rashes and, for me, the glitter formula to sparkle up the bod!

Maddie is so adept at ensuring she is safe in the sun and ends up taking the serious role of head Ultra sun applier to her brothers too! Perfect, as I can relax safe in the knowledge they are all covered.

Tom in the pool Maddie at aerobics

We named Tom our social ambassador as he was known to everyone and joined in with lots, in fact a table tennis table (is it weird writing that, or is it just me?) may now have to be located for home as he was sooo good. The daily request to do Water Aerobics was taken up by all and Maddie helped with the class one time making everyone laugh, they had a lot of takers that session!

The whole family plus sunset! The Canary Islands can be chilly at night and I found myself dressing for dinner by adding scarves and whatever else I could possibly find to layer up in the evenings, matching or otherwise! Hence the hoodie, which was a necessity.

As we were a tad poorly, my pictures are sadly somewhat lacking and although Dan was attached to his iPhone fielding work phone calls, when the photo opportunity arose the storage was full or the battery went down, which often happens to us and is so annoying. I was so pleased to at least see ONE picture of the five of us that a kind lady took, as I do like to store the memories.

The yellow OPI nail colourSince I’ve returned I’ve gone yellow-nailed with OPI’s new Brazilian colour, just to hang on to that sunshine feeling. I found Lulu ‘s Sunshine in a Bottle is all I’ve needed to enhance my skin – after GlamGlo that is – and am loving Mally’s brighter pops of colour on the lips…feels good to embrace the newness spring will offer!

I shall be very much enjoying ALL March has to offer (rain aside Mr. Weather, you have been warned) – it’s my birthday month, Mother’s Day and World Downs Syndrome Day on the 21st and of course “Jewellery Month” on QVC!

Diamonique Veronese ring, pendant and braceletI shall be presenting Skagen on the 4th at 10 a.m. and the gorgeous Diamonique Veronese collection at 1 p.m. on the 10th. You may have spotted me wearing these gorgeous pieces!

Every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in particular you can enjoy a fabulous Jewellery show and if you’d like to capture Charlie Brooks heart, you can do it – Charlie has the launch of the month’s Jewellery icon piece! Item nr 616232, his own design, which you adored, is now even more special with choices of rose (I loved that), yellow gold and the original silver. It now has an extender to lengthen it for you. He is justifiably proud of it and so he should be, it is beautiful and we were chatting about the price which is brilliant too, under £90. Failing that you can capture his heart with ….food! He needs food…lots of it and regularly!

Oh and you were asking about the Storm watch I wore last week.. Black, sleek and oversized, it was meant for Craig‘s wrist, but I just thought it looked fabulous with my leather dress…so I  “borrowed” it!

Here’s where we can catch up on QVC –

Monday 3rd: Morning show at 9 a.m,  Benefit at 10 a.m. and Yong Kim at 11 a.m.
Tuesday 4th: Skagen at 10 a.m. and Butler and Wilson accessories at 1 p.m.
Wednesday 5th: at 12 p.m, 2 p.m and 3 p.m we go  “shopping for shoes”!
Monday 10th: Morning show at 9 a.m, Cashmasoft  at 10 a.m. and Diamonique Veronese at 1 p.m.
Tuesday 11th: a special Mother & Daughter/Son Morning show at 9 a.m. and OPI at 11 a.m.
Saturday 15th: with Richard Jackson at 9 and 10 a.m. and Thorntons at 12 p.m.
and Sunday 16th: GTech Air Ram at 11 a.m. and Artscapes  at 1 p.m.

Lucy, you’re a doll for chatting back, and what’s nice is I know it’s you! After you tweeted! I hope you and your sister have lovely birthdays. I’m trying to be organised and sort out something for some of my lovely girls. I shall be at QVC on the day – unless Dan has sorted to whisk me away…! He did on my 40th, rang my boss and asked for those days off. I was soooo shocked and delighted. Won’t expect that till the next big one though!!

Hi Claire, what a lovely happy tale of a great family holiday. Your love for your family shines through and your pride leaps of the page too. You have such a sunny happy personality it is always a pleasure to watch you present all of your shows. Just your smile makes me smile!! Love all the photos too, and can appreciate how tp you like to have records of your children growing up. Believe me looking back on ny own children , who are now 33,29 and me it has flown by. The added bonus of them being that age is we are blessed with 4 beautiful grandchildren. But time is whizzing by with them too!
You certainly looked as if you had had a great hol as your skin was glowing. You did a great show with quacker factory.
Nice to have the times of your up and coming shows too. Will be watching on Monday as it’s our 35th wedding anniversary, so may find a nice piece of jewelry to treat myself to.
Meanwhile take care and lots of love diane xxx

    Hello Gorgeous Girl,
Lovely to have you back and to catch up with your holiday news,
so sorry to hear you were all a little poorly, but you pics look as though you were all having a good time.As I write this the sun is streaming through my window here in sunny Brighton, what a difference it makes, I think maybe it is time to go for a bracing walk along the sea front, which will be the first this year, lets hope it is the start of good things to come.
Take care, and lots of love to you and the family.

    Hi Claire
Lovely pictures. Can empathise with Tom. We(daughter, son in law, children and me) have all had the “bug” and then it came back for a return visit. Any way, today is another day. The sun is out, the daffs are all bobbing about, gardens look a little bit like summer has arrived (or at least on its way) and hopefully this will give some respite for all the people that have a really bad time of it this winter. Living by the sea, we have had a taste of the storms and winds but thankfully not too much damage. Made me realise how very lucky we were. The sea is lovely but you cannot control it. I came out of work today at 1.00 and it looked like half of London and surrounding areas had descended on Brighton. It was lovely to see all the families actually enjoying the fresh air and dare I say sun shine. (Said quietly in case it bites me on the bottom although we have been promised more of the same for the next couple of days). Have a lovely birthday and let yourself be spoilt. You deserve it and looking at your “babies” they look like they love to do the spoiling. Best wishes

Hi Claire, a fellow March baby, mines the 26th and I share it with my identical twin; hope you are spoilt rotten.
Sorry to hear the holiday bug struck however kids are resilient especially when the pool looks as lovely as yours did and bugs soon go away. A lovely photo of you all. I keep special family photos in a big lock and lock box. I keep meaning to create scrap books for them all but have only managed two so far, one each for my kids Jack and Chloe from the ages birth to one year old. But I think there is something special about sitting down with a cup of tea and flicking through the box of photos..normally for me anyway, ending in tears. How can time pass so quickly. My first born Jack, a tiny 6lb baby and very poorly at birth with Streptococcal B virus is now taller than me ( not really hard, I am only 5ft 3.5) and having driving lessons for his 17th birthday in September. Impossible!! At least he can then take himself off to golf and cricket..but not in my car!!
My 14 year old flame haired beauty (remember The Ginja Ninja) continues to grow taller ( yes taller than me..just) and to her fathers horror has boobs and hips and knows it..she’s hilarious, she walks up and down the kitchen doing her QVC model walk in my high heels..giggles every time!! I now notice subtle makeup for school and extra perfume…and a lick of lip gloss and macsara before cricket matches!!
Sun shining in West gate on sea..even this early..going to be a lovely day. Unfortunately Chloe has Kent cricket training indoors for three hours in Folkestone this morning so no outside time but will have the windows open in the car to compensate!! Have a great week. Mary xxx

Mary, I hope those windows allowed that sun to fill the car? You see a talented child means…training sessions…I love the thought of the extra lippie and squish before cricket. Maddie whipped the loudest reddy-pink colour from my kit yesterday…did she think I wouldn’t notice! It was removed before the party I hasten to add, though she did show daddy! Horrified!
Must be scary doing the driving lessons. I’m bad enough thinking about them popping to the local shop! Got it all to come.
Are you proper identical identical twins?? I shall think of you 2 , after I’ve racked up the birthday age…let’s hope we all have a lovely time..hint hint if Dan is reading!
    Speak soon, Love, Claire x

Rosie, I used to be a Brighton Descender too. I lived in Pease Pottage, so off I zipped, I loved a mooch in the Lanes and I used to take Dan down when we first met…aaaah memories.
It’s glorious to have this weather after such a relentless spell, isn’t it, and yes let’s hope the bottom isn’t bitten ( so to speak) and we can revel in it!
Off to glam up for the Veronese anniversary show…I may be some time!
    Much love, Claire xx

    Good morning Gorgeous Gwen,
How was the bracing walk? We tootled round our park with Gus yesterday…happy time, the only thing when sun streams through these windows is that I need to clean…excessively! So I steamed a lot, and washed and hung it all out…that made me happy, smells so nice off the line.
Today was a bird-tweeting morning, and I am so appreciative that it’s no longer pitch black at 5 am…. it helps!
Hope you’ve another sunny day down there,
    Lots of love, C xx

    Well 35th Wedding Anniversary…that deserves a treat I say!
I’m just about to find lovely Ginetta and have a chat and get all spruced up, so hope I’ll see you there (figuratively speaking)!
4 lovely grandchildren to keep you out of mischief…or in mischief possibly! How lovely. Maddie and I walked past a wedding dress shop on Saturday, she said she wants me to choose with her, when the time comes…think I may have a little wait! 9…bless her!
Sending you my love from a quiet canteen at QVC, I sneaked in for lunch early, or else I miss the eating bit, which is so not healthy…
    Xxxx C

Hi Claire. Yes, we are proper proper identical twins although now I’ve grown my hair I think we look different. That said, if you saw us apart separately you’d think it was the same person but there are differences when you see us together. Oh and we definitely dont go out wearing identical outfits but have been known to buy the same cards and pressies for people..even bought ourselves the same xmas pressie one year. We both showed our mum separately what we had bought for eachother and she didn’t bat an eyelid! When we were babies mum put name tags on us as my dad couldn’t tell the difference!! Maryxxx

Oh Mary ! That is funny…the labels on you. Identical twins are such a fascination to those of us who are just, well just us, I guess! Writing this from my poorly bed – a cracker of a migraine walloped me today…day? What day! So vile and out of the blue. Still I’ve surfaced and am alive and kicking, well twitching!
    Lots of love x

    Hi Claire!
Wow, that sounds like you had an amazing holiday (but for the illness). If the rest of the family are anything like you, I’m sure they would all spring back and make the most of the time away! I’m so jealous of your holiday in the sun.
That’s hilarious that Tom was the social ambassador and table tennis champion! Yes, I think it is just you! 😉 I used to enjoy a game or 3 of table tennis when I was a kid.
I’m sorry, but not yellow! I can deal with most colours, but really no. 😉
Wow, when is your birthday? It is bad form to ask a lady her age, so I’ll assume that you are 26 this year.
As much as I’m pleased you enjoyed your holiday, I’m even more delighted that you are back. It’s not the same without your cheery smile and amusing tweets (and pictures!).
    Keep living the dream!!
    Love, K.

Hoping it goes by the weekend. I hate takng myself off to bed especially with the kids but a dark cool room is my solace on such occasions. Massive get well soon. Mary xx

K…not sure you’ll appreciate my mermaid’s tears choice today (Thursday), still, all change keeps the interest up! Re the children, they take it all in their stride. “Do you know that lady/ person” is the question…I hope they are proud of me! And quite bask in it when their friends find out! They’ve been in to mummy’s work and love it!!
Hope you’re good, it’s nearly the weekend!!! And still a car to clean!
