June has been quite a month, I have to say.
One minute melting from the record-breaking heat, wrapping up in winter jackets and waterproofs the next. But such is life, and indeed the British summertime. Constant change is all around us and we have to learn to just go with it, I suppose. No sooner had I gotten my shorts and summer shoes out, then the rain arrived. It’s been like four seasons in one day.
It has been a fun month though. I celebrated my birthday last week and spent the day – and indeed my whole birthday weekend – at work, but it’s never really work when you are having fun, is it?
That said, I did get to go out for a special birthday lunch earlier in the week when the weather was boiling hot. I made sure we stayed cool with a few glasses of something very cold and very fizzy – well, it was my birthday after all!
It was funny because every table in the restaurant, it transpired, were parties of people celebrating birthdays! What a coincidence.
The largest group were celebrating a lady’s 90th. They were a really fun group who started by singing happy birthday and then got everyone else to sing ‘happy birthday’ to all of the people celebrating, me included. I did blush. It was quite a posh restaurant too, so I have no idea what they made of it all, but to be honest none of us cared! Good memories.
Earlier in the month I got to co-host a two-hour beauty show with Chloe. I was backstage in our dressing room, the Salon, with all the guests and I had the best time.
I told you, it really isn’t like work when you are enjoying yourself.
All of the usual suspects were there: Fiona from Decleor, Adele from SBC and Abi Cleeve from Ultrasun – also there with her own skincare brand, Skinsense by Abi Cleeve. If you haven’t heard about it yet, please do check it out as it is already garnering great reviews!
One person I did meet up with during that show is actually a hero of mine, though I didn’t know it at the time. I shall explain.
For those of you who have seen me on-air with any regularity, you will know that one of the things I am crazy about is fragrance. With that in mind, I got chatting to Dom DeVetta – creator of Shay & Blue fragrances here at QVC.
As we chatted about fragrance, I happened to mention I was wearing one of my favourite fragrances. I mentioned the name and Dom then told me that he had actually created that very fragrance when he worked for the brand that makes it! I was gobsmacked.
Honestly, I am fortunate enough over the years to have met and interviewed many famous people and I rarely, if ever, get starstruck. However when Dom told me he was the creator of the fragrance I was wearing, I can only say my reaction was something akin to how I imagine other people react to meeting a famous celebrity!
I actually asked him if I could hug him! I kid you not.
A little on the embarrassing side but hey, that’s how much I love fragrance!
By the way, on those hot summer days and evenings a touch of Shay & Blue Blood Orange is a real treat, and I have been treating myself a lot lately!
I think the summer has gone to some of my colleagues’ heads as well, as I spotted a few of them having piggy-back races around the grounds outside the building. This is not a joke! Craig was carrying Catherine and Dale was racing with Ali Keenan. I won’t say who won, but I will say the sight was hilarious!
My month was rounded off very nicely with an event of the year last night. I went to see the incomparable Adele in her Finale concert at Wembley Stadium. It was the biggest crowd the venue has ever held – 98,000 people and all of us singing at the top of our lungs for two full hours whilst Adele swore and charmed her way into all of our hearts.
Myself and Lee Hohbein went and it was a truly fun and memorable night, never to be forgotten.
Once again, I have to say I am blessed and thankful.
If my summer continues like this, I am not sure what can top it. I have to say, I can’t wait to find out!
Until next time,
