Summer Beauty Saviours, Week 1: Hair

Keep your hair gorgeous this summer.During the summer months and holiday time, increased sun exposure, heat, humidity and so on can cause different beauty concerns.

Let's start with the hair, which can become greasier due to the sun’s oil gland stimulation. If you have this concern then switch to a more cleansing shampoo that keeps hair cleaner for longer, such as Percy & Reed Volumising Shampoo, and make sure you carry dry shampoo – try Percy & Reed Dry Shampoo or Philip Kingsley's ‘One More Day’.

Don’t forget the ends though – they may need more moisture, so apply intensive treatment masks such as Taya Buriti Nut or Philip Kingsley Elasticizer, just to the ends, to stop them drying out.

Drier hair types will become frazzled, with colour lifting on ends, ends splitting and fuzzy bits around the parting. An easy trick is to step up within your brand to a richer shampoo and conditioner if available.

For example, I have just washed with Lulu’s Lock Star shampoo and conditioner - which is technically for coarser, more wiry hair – and this has one the trick and given me the smoothing that I need during this hot period. Bear in mind this hair type will need pre-treatments and intensive treatments almost on a daily basis, and will definitely need hair serums like Percy & Reed's No Oil Oil, Liz Earle's Hair Oil or HER Haircare’s Nourishing Oil, applied to blow dried hair and then on a daily basis to keep moisture in.

Hairfix Recovery RegimeEssential hair survival for everyone, no matter what your hair type, texture or ethnicity, is to use the Hairfix system once a week (or every 3-4 washes) to reduce and remove sweat, residue, and oil and product build-up.

If sunbathing, try to apply your hair treatment on damp hair before you go out. Your hair treatment can then be re-applied after each time you go in the water, and then washed away when you go indoors. It will feel fantastic. Don’t forget the Turbi Twist Hat could also offer great protection by keeping the hair covered and the head comfortable.

If you would prefer to style it out around the pool with great looking hair, then spray on Ultrasun’s Hair Protector. For those of you using swimming pools with chlorine, a trick is to cleanse afterwards with Philip Kingsley’s Moisture Extreme Shampoo, or make sure you do this when you do your Hairfix treatment.

Handbag essentials for hair would be to carry your hair serum from now on and if you feel ends drying out, smooth some on – even to dry hair.

Of course, a hat is fantastic protection but make sure it is loose fitting so that it doesn’t rub the hair shaft and cause breakage. And if you wear hairbands, go for the more padded, less-elasticated ones for the same reasons.

If you like to keep your hair natural through the summer or on holiday then the perfect solution for a more rejuvenated look to your hair is the WEN Cleansing Conditioning System especially if you like to leave your hair to dry naturally on holiday. Remember to apply one or two pumps after the second treatment when your hair is still damp, as a leave in conditioner.

Last but by no means last, don't forget to take your root cover if you colour your hair, as hair – like nails – will grow quicker in the sun. Color Wow and Mimic root covers are minimal in packing weight but can solve a big problem whilst you are away.
