Summer At Last!

Well it’s been a long time coming but at last we’ve had some lovely sunshine. We’ve taken full advantage of it by dining al fresco every night this week, admiring my plants that are laden with flowers thanks to Richard Jackson’s Flower Power and sipping wine with the fragrance of my Yankee verbena candle scenting the air – that’s more like it!

We also took full advantage of the sunshine by having the roof off the car when we drove up to Nottingham on Monday to visit my mum – Ultrasun factor 30 for me and a baseball cap for Chris before any of you go telling Alison Young! Mum hadn’t sent my birthday present as it was breakable – I was intrigued. She had bought me a ceramic kettle and two china mugs to have in my writing room/ office when it finally gets finished.

We have been a little side-tracked getting the spare bedroom finished so that she can come and stay with us later in the summer. Considering she will be ninety in three weeks time she looks AMAZING! We spent a lot of the afternoon encouraging her to finish some of the short stories she enjoys writing as I would like to publish them for her as one of her birthday presents – now you know where I get my love of writing from.

book signingjulia and friendThanks to everyone who came along to my book signing in Windsor last Saturday. It was lovely to meet QVC viewers but also visitors from overseas who were in Windsor hoping to catch sight of ‘her majesty’.

How appropriate was this white feather cloud sitting over Waterstones – if  you’ve read my books, you will know the significance.

book and drink

My books are currently en route to Belgium and Hong Kong and one has spent the week on holiday in Florida with Fiona Brackenberry who tweeted me these lovely pictures. She has finished the trilogy now and, like Sam Doubledee from Northern Nights who I caught up with at work yesterday, says she loved it. Getting such positive feedback about something you have spent months of your life creating is very gratifying, so again I thank those of you who have left me reviews on a well-known website that sounds like a south American river!!!

book review

As I’m sure most of you know, Fiona and Keeley from Elemis are really good friends and I’m looking forward to spending time with Keeley this weekend as it is the Elemis TSV on Sunday. Our show is at 11am and, as well as the TSV, which includes Sweet Orchid Body Oil (currently exclusive to QVC) and is fabulous value, there is another kit of Sweet Orchid body cream and Sweet Orchid hand and nail cream, plus a men’s kit AND something to keep your feet happy in this heat!

Elemis Panel 2a copy

Lola Rose necklace159800Spotlight on Jewellery returns tonight at 6pm after the finale of Diamonique Week which has moved Fashion on Friday an hour earlier today at 4pm and is Attitudes by Renee featuring the WWC jeans TSV – if there is any left.

The necklace I’m wearing in this picture is not on tonight’s Spotlight on Jewellery, it is the Lola Rose TSV and I had to laugh when I realised I posed for the photo wearing an ex Antthony TSV top and last weeks H by Halston jacket – I’m soooo QVC!

If you are too then here are some of my recommendations on this week’s Focus on Fashion:

There are two hours of Susan Graver fashion at 3pm and 9pm on Sunday. I’ve selected this peplum back top, which is available in black, sea breeze, deep orchid and a pink (currently nameless on our website) because it is at a feature price under £30 – unusual for this range. Then, fast forward to Wednesday for the Nina Leonard TSV. To compliment the bow-back long-line cardigan, available in five colours: black, camel, hawaiian ocean, navy and vibrant violet, there is a tulip hem printed tunic. We’ve done a similar style before in block colours and sleeveless, but this has a cap sleeve and I think may be even more popular, and it comes in a purple multi!. To finish off the outfit for under £100 there are these narrow straight leg trousers in black, navy or camel, which are in a choice of regular or petite length.

Well, I’m not going to put my hours on here this week as there have been lots of changes lately due to presenter sporting injuries… I think I’m safer sitting writing!

Hope the weather lasts and that you have a fabulous weekend

Julia xx

    Hi Julia
Really enjoyed reading your books, real page turners could not put them down, well done you.
I think you have earned a wee rest sitting outside in the nice weather we have been getting recently, having said that though here in Scotland it has been really muggy, and trying to sleep at night has been murder, still should not complain as summer has been a while coming.
    Take care Julia.
    Much love
    Elizabeth X

      Hi Elizabeth
I’m so pleased you have enjoyed my trilogy. If you would like to leave a review on Amazon it would be much appreciated.
I know what you mean about the warm nights – we’ve had the fan on in the bedroom for the last week or so but not complaining if it means we get a summer at last.

    Hi Julia,
Congratulations on your latest book signing. Yes at last summer is here! Well it was here but today is back to normal as it’s raining. I have to say I really struggled this week with the hot weather. We went to Porthcawl but it was so hot we went home early.
We’re not getting much luck with selling the house still. Had another roofer here last week as we’ve still got problems! It’s really getting me down now.
I had a temporary crown fitted on Thursday which was very poorly fitted so I had to go back to my dentist on Friday. Things have got to start getting better surely. Anyway, enough of my moaning. Hope you are keeping well. You certainly look well and sporting your healthy look.
All the best, Tina S x

      Hello Tina
Sorry to hear about your problems with your crown – one of mine came off recently so had to be stuck back on. Crossing my fingers that it stays stuck or I may have to have the tooth out.
Hoping your luck will change soon regarding your house I can’t believe you still have problems with the roof – seems to have been going on for years!
I’m just waiting on my latest results from the hospital but my consultant seemed to think they would be good, so fingers crossed.
      Speak soon

    Hi Julia
Call me a summer grinch but I’ve had enough of all this hot dry weather now! Spending too much time watering the garden of an evening leaving precious little time for anything else, including watching the Q!! Still, in the repeated words of John Snow, (Game of Thrones Julia), Winter is coming!! I know you’re not a fan, but check out the clip on YouTube if you get chance, ‘John Snow, dinner party, it’s well funny.
Busy day in the garden yesterday but I watched a bit of you and Keeley at 11am. Great TSV and you both looked lovely. The lemon top really suited you.
I’m glad the book signing went well.
We’re just on our way to Grassington with Mum. It’s my brother’s 65th birthday this week and they have hired a cottage for the week. He doesn’t know we’re coming so it will be a nice surprise for him and a lovely day off work for us!
    Sorry but I hope it’s raining next time I ‘speak’to you :-)))))!!
    Love ‘the summer party pooper’!

      Hello to the ‘summer grinch’
Oh Marian, I can’t believe you’re not enjoying a bit of sunshine – I quite like watering the garden, I find it cathartic. You’ve obviously done a rain dance as we had some rain overnight last night.
Hope you enjoyed your brother’s 65th birthday.
Me & Game of Thrones …. not going to happen I’m afraid.

    Hi Julia
this is the first time I have actually left a reply and I have been a QVC member for a very long time. Anyway as I always read your blogs and i see that you are a fan of Elemis as well, i bought to of the TSVs on Sunday, is there a possibility that you could relay to the lovely Keeley if she could ask Elemis if they could look at doing a shower, body cream and oil in the fragrance they use for the Bi Tec facial wash as i think it has the most lovely smell and think it would be a perfect new fragrance that i also think lots of customers would like

thank you and ps your books are great
    take care

Hi Julia have just finished your 3rd book in the trilogy. I was on holiday in Cyprus and was a great holiday read. It was a real page turner. I look forward to another book from you. Always enjoy your shows on QVC. Best wishes Pat x
