Inside of QVC
Well the sun finally showed its face again!! Well it did where I am anyway, I hope you got some of the sun too? Typically though I was working for most of the Bank Holiday Weekend but don’t worry I still squeezed in some fun in the sun!
I was able to let outside of QVC collide with inside this week though as Fred and the girls came up to my parents for the weekend so we could be together, which meant they could drive me into work and come in and see the studios. Tilda and Ivy have seen me on the TV but I know they don’t really understand what it is that I do, Ivy in particular.
Apparently a few weeks ago she was watching me on the TV and started shouting at me to ‘get out of the box mummy’! She even looked at the set behind me and shouted ‘jump out of the window’ referring to the set windows behind me. So it was brilliant to get them to see the cameras and the sets and also the make-up room. They thought it was so exciting and Tilda was so thrilled by the make-up rooms and mirrors with lights all around them! I didn’t let them stay to long though as I could imagine Ivy would have jumped on in front of the camera if she was given the chance. It was also nice for Fred to see where I go to so when I’m telling him about my day he can picture it better.
Outside of QVC
Saturday was our day to get out and about, and with the sun shining there was only one place to go, the beach hut! I really love our beach days, the kids play all day outside with no desire for TV and we get to enjoy a lot of family time together. We have a set of boules down there which we play for hours and the girls just run in and out of the water without a care in the world. All you need is a bucket and spade and that’s entertainment. Sometimes I think it’s crazy to live so far from work but when we have this on our doorstep then it all makes sense. Having the beach hut is our one indulgence as a family, we don’t have a big house so this is our way to really enjoy being outdoors throughout the year and it means that we stay out for longer than we might have done without it, we get fish and chips and sit and watch the world go by and I know it will fill the girls with memories for life.
Other than that, some of you will already know I have had some serious car trouble lately. I broke down twice in the last month and this week it meant I didn’t make it to work on the day in question which I was disappointed about. It does mean I am looking for a new car though which I am trying to look at as exciting rather than costly! I am really torn on what to get – do I need another big ‘mum car’ or something nippy for all my motorway driving? At the moment I have a Fiat 500 on hire to get me to work, it’s mint green and I’m loving it. The girls and I took it for a drive when it arrived with the Spice Girls blaring and it was so much fun. It’s really appropriate for my work journey though so it’s definitely not the right car for me but it’s fun for this week!
What I’m wearing
This week it’s all about summer and I’ve done a big order with my holiday in mind – beachwear! I have also been choosing some great accessories to take with me, as many of you know it’s accessories month here at QVC so there is a lot of choice. So far I have gone for the Pretty You London Matching Patent Slide Sandal and Clutch Set. I have been a bit naughty and got this set in two colours because I loved them so much. I went for the White Multi which has palm trees on them and the Flamingo print. These are perfect for holiday because they will do for day and night, and then you have a really stylish bag which is splash proof so perfect for poolside to keep money and phone dry or even a small camera and again this will do as an evening clutch. I teamed them with a rather gorgeous white dress from Pia Rossini called Casablanca which will be a poolside cover up and perfect for going to the beach bars for lunch. It’s light and airy so I will be floating around in this on any given hot summer day! My new sunglasses are by Ruby Rocks and my Pia Rossini Tabago hat is perfect for keeping the sun off my face. I also love my new 50s-inspired Joe Browns swimming costume. I will let you know what else I have ordered for my holiday next week.
I am also tempted to buy this rather gorgeous bracelet from the Kelly Hoppen range which will be on air on Tuesday 8th May, which is from her Hero Chain collection. Some of you might have the necklace already. It’s gold vermeil on sterling silver, it’s also available in the plain silver option but I just love gold at the moment. What do you think? I would wear the bracelet every day, it’s not too much to just simply wear with a T-shirt but will of course be perfect with dresses and blouses too. It’s a real winner!
What I’m using – beauty
I’ve been trying out the new Bareminerals Vio-Lit Glow Primer which is currently only available at QVC. This is a game changer for anyone with redness in their skin tone because it’s a violet hue which helps balance your complexion. It’s a blend of mineral pigments as you would expect and it feels really beautiful on the skin. I found that its illumination really helps your skin to glow with a healthy appearance underneath your make-up and helps to keep your overall look lasting longer.
What I’m cooking
This week it’s my take on a classic Italian dish baked melanzane.
What you will need:
- 2 small/medium Aubergines
- Tomato passata
- Pine nuts
Slice the aubergines in to disks. I lay them out on a board and then sprinkle with salt first because this draws out some of the bitterness and water. You will see moisture collect all over them which you pat dry with a kitchen towel. I then griddle mine with olive oil and garlic to get some great flavour coming out of them. I then set these aside.
Next slice up your mozzarella and open your passata. This next bit is so simple, lay a layer of aubergine on the bottom of an oven-proof dish, follow with mozzarella, then a pouring of passata. Sprinkle in some oregano and then repeat until you have used everything. I then take some breadcrumbs, which you can buy ready-made which I did, or you can blitz a slice or two of bread (I often use the heel) in a blender. Sprinkle those over and then grate parmesan or shake ready grated parmesan over the top. I added a few pine nuts too just because I love them but you can leave them out if you want or don’t have any. Then pop in the oven on 180 degrees for about 30 minutes or until golden brown and bubbling a little. It’s really yummy and a great way to enjoy a meat-free meal if you are cutting back on the meat or if you are vegetarian.
Let me know if you try it!
Lots of Love
