I spent Saturday having a fantastic time supporting Lulu at the Strictly Come Dancing show. We were at the BBC studios – the Bruce Broadcasting Corporation as Bruce Forsyth was calling it! Bruce was amazing as always, brilliant and highly entertaining – he manages to hold an audience so well. Bruce and Lulu were definitely the stars of the show.
I took along my best friend Frankie who is also my hairdresser. We had our first job together 25 years ago, and have been friends since then. She works hard so hard in her job and raising her three kids that I wanted to give her a treat.
Before we went I prepared with Lulu's Operation Glam of course – the volumizing Larger than Life shampoo and conditioner which I love and use on a regular basis. I then blow-dried with Hairfix Keratin Spray, which really makes the ends thicker when you’re overdue for a haircut!
I knew that I needed some extra thickness as we would be in there for hours so I used some dry shampoo into the base and roots. I followed this with Lulu Hairspray after I’d put my heated rollers in for some added texture.
In terms of make-up, I decided I needed a bit of Mally to look good all evening, so I used the Flawless Face Collection. The foundation gives the most amazing finish, and obviously the primer is fab.
On my eyes I used Smashbox and on my lips I used Bare Escentual’s Buxom lipgloss – my can’t live without product. I sneaked some Laura Geller foundation in with me just in case the lights came near me, and I also brought a Bobbi Brown eye liner as I knew that would never melt under the lights, plus a Mally blush and a Laura Geller highlighter.
I've discovered a new make-up trick!
A new trick I have discovered, that I tried on Saturday and have done every day since, is to use Lulu's Youth Explosion Day serum as a mask. You use six pumps and leave it on the skin, it sinks into the skin in about five minutes leaving no residue or oil.
It is fantastic at plumping out lines, and there are just no lines on my forehead at the moment! Of course I have also been testing out the Gatineau Age Benefit Moisturiser, which has a great texture and definitely suits my skin.
Stictly star spotting
We arrived at the studio at 4pm, and were taken to VIP guest lounge in the BBC building overlooking London with a bar and restaurant with a large terrace with gardens. It was great for celeb spotting – I saw Princess Beatrice, Brian May, the boys from McFly and some ‘I’m a Celebrity’ guests. I had a very big B Makowsky handbag with me which I filled with goodies as I knew we would get hungry and tired with all the excitement.
The show itself was brilliant, very vibrant and exciting. The studio is much smaller than you’d expect, and the white smoke they use actually smells of smoke – I got a bit panicky at one point, and began looking around for a fire exit!
Anton came and spoke to us (what a darling) and of course Lulu came over to sit with us for a bit. We also chatted to Tess Daly, who is so beautiful in the flesh, really super model gorgeous.
She had an amazing sheen on her legs – I reckon you could get that look from Laura Geller body frosting. All the dancers had such a lot of body make-up and fake tan on, I don’t think even Leighton Denny could get that dark! I would certainly take a few coats of fake tan.
I'm a convert now
Anyway, I’m such a Strictly Come Dancing convert now! I will definitely be watching every week. At the end of the show there was a reception at the bar with everyone mingling.
Soon though, the heated seats of my car beckoned, because we had been sitting for four hours and had numb bums! On Sunday, I felt absolutely exhausted like I was jetlagged and we had been doing was sitting all day, so I can’t imagine how those dancers must have felt – especially Lulu and everyone that was just learning.
It was such an amazing experience, if anyone ever gets a chance they should definitely go.
Watch it next week and vote for Lulu!
