Sparkles to make us smile

After the week I’ve had, I definitely need something to make me smile! I haven’t been feeling well for the past 10 days.

I’ve had a nasty tummy bug which has had me feeling achy and lethargic and – despite having had my usual fortnightly five day break – I’m still not over it. I was so poorly last Sunday that I was unable to go up to Nottingham to see my mum for her 91st birthday lunch. Thanks so much to those of you who wished her a happy birthday.

Apparently she had an enjoyable day with my brother and his family. I was so disappointed not to go, I had baked her a chocolate birthday cake on Saturday evening, which stayed in its foil wrapping until I felt well enough to ice it on Tuesday – my family have been enjoying it on Mum’s behalf!

So, I do need a bit of cheering up. Some Butler & Wilson sparkle, in celebration of his 22nd anniversary with us here at QVC, should do the trick. I’m with Simon tomorrow and Sunday at midday for two hour shows, but he also has a show tonight at 8pm and 6pm shows on Saturday and Sunday.

I was hunting for some old pictures of us on-air together – you’d think there would be a few over 22 years, but I could only find this one taken with gorgeous model, Ali, which happens to be one of my favourite pictures of all time.

It was taken outside his shop in South Molton Street which, for those of you who don’t know, closed at the end of June. He still has his fabulous Fulham Road flagship store though, well worth a visit if you’re ever in the area.

As promised on last week’s blog, I’ve had a look through someof the pieces that are going to be in the anniversary shows. Of course there is lots of new (as there always is with someone as prolific as Simon) but also watch out for a reduced price on the iconic Dancing Couple brooch. It’s currently at £67.92 instead of £81 and available in 3 Easy Pay instalments.

There are also some fabulous animal pieces. The bees are back and we have plenty of butterflies, but I particularly like this pig brooch, available in three colours – of which the Gold is my favourite. I also love the fish with the bubbles brooch in Red or Gold.

There are new cat earrings in Purple… I wonder who Simon may have had in mind when he designed those! I like to think it was me.

It hardly seems possible that we have known each other in excess of 22 years, and he has been such a good friend to me. I was particularly touched when he threw me a launch party for my first book, ‘One Hundred Lengths of the Pool’, which we sold on QVC, and when he came to the launch party of my first novel, ‘Life’s a Beach and Then…’ a couple of years later.

It put me in mind of a new picture I acquired from Gill Gauntlett, a QVC guest, when she was having a clear out of her on-air props cupboard.

It says: ‘True Friends are like Diamonds… Precious and Rare!’

I’m sure I bought Simon a birthday card with that saying on it a couple of years ago.

So, do watch out for my anniversary shows with Simon over the weekend and also my Join Clothes show at 3pm tomorrow and Yankee Candle at 3pm on Sunday. I’ve also got fashion from MarlaWynne on Monday, and if you’re a QVC fashion fan check out our Look of the Week below:

The less said about our first game in the new premiership season the better – well done Huddersfield should suffice.

Have a great weekend,

    Hi Julia
So sorry to hear you were unwell, glad you’re better now (lurgies suck bigtime!) and sorry you missed your mum’s birthday!! Luckily your hard baked cake was enjoyed!
Love the purple cat earrings and it’s my fave colour as are cats. They would be a great pressie for a friend, someone coming up to a milestone in their lives!
Also loving the pic with you all and yes Ali is gorgeous, had pleasure of meeting her at one of QVC’s fashions shows when they used to do those in the past, back in 2012! Miss those great shows and events where we had a chance to gab it up with the presenters and other viewers too!
    Take care!! x

      Hi Mila
Did you get the cat earrings? I hope you enjoyed the B & W shows? I think we all miss the fab events we used to do but obviously we presenters have no control over those kinds of decisions ?
I’m feeling much better than I was but still a little bit under the weather.

Sorry to hear you are unwell Julia Think when you are on a lot of medication for nasty health problems it takes longer to clear up. I have been feeling under the weather. I have had a nasty abscess in,my mouth. On antibios so hope it clears soon.. see my heamotologist on Monday so hoping my platkets havnt gone berserk and I have to increase my chem tabkets. I have had a lousy time. My 95 yr old husband collapsed due to wrong medication and in hospital for four days and my beautiful sister aged 82 had a massive stroke 29th May and is still in hospital totally bed ridden. Still we must keep smiling and have positive thoughts. Blessings and love. Pauline

      Hi Pauline
Oh dear, you really have been in the wars – so sorry to hear your bad news about your sister and your husband too.
You’re probably right that it may have something to do with my long-term health problem.
We have to keep positive though

Dear Julia, so sorry to hear that you have been unwell & missed going to see your lovely mum —- I know how that feels. As I suffer from chronic pain 24\7 & have spent a bit of time in hospital, so because of my health I miss out on quite a few family occasions ( but you just have to keep positive).
Loved all your shows with Simon — love the banter between you both.
I see you have been unwell again ( Monday) so hope you soon feel much better.
    Take Carex

      Hi Jacqui
I’m glad you enjoyed the Butler & Wilson shows – he was on great form and it was such a pleasure to be working with him.
You are right about feeling positive otherwise we would all just crawl in to a corner and cry!
Almost better after this bout of illness and hoping that’s it for a while

Dear Julia, so sorry you have been unwell – hope you get well v.soon. I am in Tenerife reading your fab book murder in theatre land and I love it. Your past dancing life shines through. I would have liked to leave it for others to read but its on my fire 7 (another qvc buy!). Get well soon and thanks for the great read. Tanya

      Hi Tanya
So pleased you are enjoying Alice in Theatreland (your alternative title made me smile). They do say you should write what you know and I lived through the seventies as a professional dancer, so not too much research required.
Are you on holiday in Tenerife or do you live there?
Feeling a lot better – almost there, I think.
