Spa treats on hot days and a packed bank holiday ahead!

I was reading this week about de-stressing, there seems to have been a fair old bit going on in my life this year, even though on paper there shouldn’t be. And as a timely coincidence, I was off to a couple of spa treats, with sis and mum first, in Brooklands Spa near Woking, and then to use up a two night voucher at my most-frequented destination, Champneys, where I go when I want to unwind. And what amazing weather we had!

On Tuesday, a one-day Groupon-type voucher took me and family along to a place I’ve passed several times yet didn’t manage to visit until this week. As a treat from brother, along we went, to one of those afternoon tea type spa days, including an amazing massage and mini facial. It was so good, with a girl called Sammy, I booked another at the end of the day! The most impressive thing (apart from the cakes, altho’ they looked a bit sickly!) was the third floor open deck hot tub.

It had  views over far-reaching hills and the Mercedes testing track or whatever it is (if you know, let me know – Mercedes World or something?) It was that first hot day this week and the breeze was warm! Then I went in the meditation room and the next thing I knew it was home time! Highly recommended! Easy on the patisserie, but the sarnies were … unusual but tasty! #smokedhaddockandbeetrootpate’!

Champneys Treat

OK so it was a treat to myself but why not?! The nicest thing about their returners vouchers is that you get two nights for the price of one. The worst thing is the use-by date. So back I went before they run out. I was due to go with Carla Laszlo but our diaries clashed. And it’s all been redone – new areas outside and inside and lovely, lovely food. Alison my sister-in-law and I had a super time, including lots of swimming – and a TiFFT for me – indoor and outdoor pools in one day! I’ve never been in the outdoor pool but it was super – really ‘not-cold’ water and a hot tub in the corner too. A sudden downpour had most of the sun lovers running indoors but Alison and I braved it out under the brollies and went in again!

The funniest thing was the ducks! We were sat having tea and one of them decided to come peck at me to tell me it wanted some crumbs! Suddenly there were eight of them – visions of Tippi Hedren came to mind, at floor level, and we left them to it – accompanied every so often by a little shriek from someone else who had been gently but surprisingly nibbled by a duck bill!

I do love going but there is so much to do, I had to tear myself away to go write. Will definitely be going back again tho!

Medical Detection Dogs on This Morning Again! And more shaggy dog stories – amazing ones – including a dog helping alert a little girl’s parents to her illness. So many stories like this out there – must start compiling a list! Anyway Dr Claire Guest, founder of my fave charity Medical Detection Dogs, was at hand to once more lend credibility to the way these clever canines do it. Nice clip – watch here!

And for an even more amazing tale, or ‘tail’ – in full length book format, get Daisy’s Gift , about the dog that sniffed out 550 cancers, and she was 12 last week bless her! More about what’s in it is here.

Potatoes for Christmas! Look at these already, in my super cottage garden in Dorking. How lucky am I?! Going to have some lovely spuds for Christmas, apparently… (assuming I’m still there and I haven’t gone somewhere with better broadband, away from main road and with sun all day long! This weather makes me yearn, knowing what the last winter in the little dip was like!

Facebook Funny – not just funny, absolutely hilarious!! As the Rio Games ended, here’s one of our top Facebooker’s version of dressage – a la Bodyblade! So funny! Well done Tracie Wright!

Blooper – Simon Brown and Ali Keenan having a giggle over a slip of Ali’s tongue!

Book of the Week – it’s an amazing suspense crime thriller this week – ‘bout time I included something a bit more gritty! ‘I Let You Go’ from the talented bestselling author and writing tutor, Clare Macintosh, an ex-copper and can’t you tell! – the dialogue is so real! More about it here on my blog RiWiSi

Patchy Update Well it seems the old girl has got some fluid on her tum but thankfully nothing more sinister than that inside there, apparently, according to the scans she had last week – she was perkier this week so fingers crossed the remaining tests on what the fluid was, will mean it’s all just down to old age. Have had her years, but longevity runs in the family, we only lost her mum Holly at the same age two years ago.

Newsletter Roundup – my latest last Friday included a summary of the Decleor deal ‘early bird order link’ and the Dyson one too, so it’s well worth visiting my website and Facebook page, where I can post up to date links to new deals as I get them (this blog is only posted each Friday.) Or maybe by subscribing here, to be kept up to date by email!

Also a huge thank you everyone for taking my Twitter followers to over 17,000 – I’m well chuffed especially as there’s a lot of churn and half as many leave each week. I try to keep it varied on Twitter here, @Debbieflint , including lots of pics and unique video blogs or ‘vlogs’ – like this one here of a very special warm walk in the wonderful woods.(can you embed this?) Finally on this week’s website newsletter, an exclusive video or two from the pool during the Champneys visit, go here to my latest website blog update!

Lying? On  a similar vein, have you ever thought about why we often go hide and eat in private, telling ourselves it’s the last time and we’ll never do it again? There was an interesting post this week which I’m discussing on my new health blog on my website, here. What do you think, once you’ve read it? Feel free to let me know.

PS – HERE’S Terry’s latest post on the Till the Fat Lady Slims support group –

“Well ladies and gents I am very pleased to have reached my final target today. Which also means I have lost 20lbs this year feeling very proud. ..

I would say that my 20lbs is due to freedom eating and my Fitbit tracking my steps and other activities. As I try not to use scales at home I still go to slimming world once a week to keep me on track, but do not really follow the program.

..Thanks to this amazing group xxx xx”

Fabulous news isn’t it, from yet more ladies finding the support from TTFLS and Freedom Eating is really helping on their weight loss journey. I say to anyone who wants to give it a try, to read up on ‘Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 – the ‘When’ Diet’ book which is like the one which sold out in signed hardback on QVC last year. Plus book 3.0 with more tips and tales to inspire. The whole story and links are here on my webpage.

Hi, Debs. Its Mercedes-Benz World & you were looking at the handling track, wet circle- only one in the country open to the public, wet & dry dynamic straight etc. It is an amazing driving experience & will teach you lots of new things even if you have been driving for years!
