Sonic cleaning – amazement!

I have often championed the Shark range of cleaning products because I like the build quality and their reliability so when Tracy, my coordinating producer, asked me if I’d like to try out their new Sonic Duo cleaner, I jumped at the chance. However, when I found that it was a hard floor and a carpet cleaner I was skeptical. This surely is asking the impossible; carpet cleaners are one thing, hard floor cleaners- a completely separate thing altogether.

IMG_0161Ok, I thought, be open and check it out. In the box you get absolutely everything you need including all the different floor cleaning solutions and the pre-treatment solution. How you use the Sonic Duo is sooo straightforward as everything is colour coded (e.g. carpets it’s purple, hard floors it’s green etc.).

I thought I’d start with the most likely area of experience for the Duo…. Hard floors. We have a porcelain tiled floor in our kitchen/diner and although the grout was treated a few years ago so it wouldn’t stain……. It looked stained and pretty grubby at best. I was not hopeful that anything would change using the Duo, as I thought it would be impossible to make any difference without a considerable amount of elbow grease and a severe risk of housemaid’s knee. However, I was amazed that I could see the grout changing after a few minutes of sonic action. I had to go over the same bits for quite a while, but the floor gradually changed and became much cleaner. A few stubborn bits did need some action from the It Works blocks, but after an hour or so the kitchen floor was as good as I have seen it in several years.PicMonkey Collage

So far so good, but how would it fare with the carpets? We did shampoo our carpets in the autumn last year so although they see a fair bit of action, I wasn’t sure if we would see much change with the Sonic Duo. It uses a low moisture cleaning system and although I understand how the scrubbing sonic action can loosen the dirt, I couldn’t really see how it would remove it. I thought it would simply spread it around a bit. When the solution is dry, you vacuum the carpet again and it removes the dry residue and the dirt with it.

IMG_0135Oh my god – the difference was amazing! I did half the carpet and put down a bit of tape so I could see exactly where it had done and I am glad I did as you can really see the change in colour after cleaning.

I had no expectation that it would clean the carpet at all, but it cleaned it so well, I now have the problem of a very distinct stripe down the middle of the room (I’m not sure the photo really shows it but when you looking at it you can really see the difference). I suppose it’s a high-class problem to have!

The other great thing about the Sonic Duo is that it uses a low-moisture cleaning system. This means you don’t have to wait hours before people can use the floor again. I did my test at about 10am and by midday the floor was bone dry and ready for use.PicMonkey Collage2

The Sonic Duo also applies polish to hard floors and our porch floor really needs that. However, we are currently midway through renewing the porch and it’s more like a building site so I will wait until the work is done and then use sonic cleaning and polishing to renovate the floor for our new porch.

The Sonic Duo is our Today’s Special Value offer on Tuesday 26th April. I think it’s brilliant and it will be used very, very regularly in the Biagi household for years to come. Thank you Shark!
