Wow what a crazy week eh? Did you get snowed in or were you unscathed? It’s amazing how this country almost shuts down with snow, we just aren’t built for it are we?! To be fair though it was the most snow I’ve seen since I was a much younger girl. It was lovely to see Chiswick Park all covered in snow too and I popped out to get a few pictures.
A lake surrounded by snow is a pretty sight to see. I can’t pretend that the studios weren’t absolutely freezing though, extra layers all round. Our studio team however were very good at getting extra heaters out for us and bringing us warm drinks during our shows. I think only a few presenters got snowed in and couldn’t get to work but everyone mucked in to cover the days, even Eilidh Nairn came over from QVC Style to cover some shows on the main channel and she did a great job. Thankfully I wasn’t due in on the snow days as I wouldn’t have made it. I wasn’t going anywhere!
Outside of QVC
At home, as many of you will know it was World Book Day. Even though the snow had started, school still went ahead and the kids were so pleased as they were very excited to wear their costumes. We had a last minute change that morning as Tilda decided she didn’t want to go as a mermaid any more from the book The Singing Mermaid. As you can imagine that meant a frantic 20 minutes for me pulling together something else from the fancy dress box. Thanks to a red princess dress, a white faux fur cape and my trusty Laura Geller Red Lipliner she was able to go as The Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. Phew! She looked soooo lovely.
The snow really got wild that afternoon and the kids were sent home early from school. I could already see that my Birthday plans for the next day were well and truly up in the air! Fred got sent home from work early but it took him 2 hrs and he ended up having to abandon his van about half a mile away from home because he couldn’t get up some of the steep hills near us. We still managed to get to the park though and enjoy the snow! What amazing memories for the girls, they will talk about that for years to come I’m sure. The park was packed with families hitting the slopes on trays and sledges.
The next morning Fred and the girls made me a Birthday breakfast and I had my presents. I got some lovely gifts and the best handmade cards from Tilda and Ivy. The calls then came in cancelling my Birthday manicure and pedicure as obviously no staff could get in to work so I took the opportunity to have a little pamper session at home. More of that in beauty in a bit.
We called around our local restaurants and found one of our favourites was open! My lovely friends all said that by hook or by crook, and with heavy boots and coats, that they would make it and walk the distance to meet us. Aren’t they lovely? So what looked to be a bit of a wash out of a day turned out to be a lot of fun and a truly memorable birthday.
What I’m using in beauty
So as I said above I had a bit of a birthday pamper session at home, and I was very excited to crack open my brand new Elemis Rose Pro Collegen Cleansing Balm. What a treat that was to start the day! You can’t get it anywhere else until July so this is a really special Beauty Pick of the Month. I was bowled over by the incredible rose fragrance, it is completely divine and more importantly it’s a really wonderful cleanser taking away dirt, excess oil and impurities without leaving your skin feeling dry and taught.
After that I got to try This Works Detox Clay Mask, technically it’s meant for the evening but this was my moment so I went with it! This is a powerful detoxifying mask which helps to replenish the skin and the green clay helps to give you back that glow to your skin. I sat in a nice hot bath with this on my face and it was the perfect treatment. It wipes off nice and easily with a warm flannel and my skin did indeed look so refreshed. Not a bad start to the day I have to say.
What I’m wearing
Paul Costelloe is having a moment at QVC, we are all getting very excited about the range. I have already bought one of his chunky knit cardigans but this weekend I also got to try the up-coming Today’s Special Value Edge to Edge Coatigan. It couldn’t be more perfect for the cold weather right now but it will also be a great alternative to a coat come the spring. I think it’s pretty stylish for a chunky knit, what do you think? It will be coming in a number of different colours including a soft pastel blue and pink. You can see the incredible price on Friday when it will be the star of the day.
What I’m cooking – Creamy Paprika Chicken
I’m feeling a little guilty because this is the second creamy recipe I’ve brought you but it’s just soooo good that I had to do it.
What you will need for 2 people –
– 2 chicken breasts cut into strips
– 140ml double cream
– half white onion, diced small
– chicken stock cube
– white wine (about a glass worth)
– 1 tsp paprika
– 1 clove garlic, chopped small
– half a lemon, squeezed
Fry the onion and garlic in a pan on a medium heat, then add the chicken. When it’s seared on all sides add the wine and stock, followed by the cream, paprika and lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper. Leave to simmer on a medium heat until the chicken is properly cooked through.
I served mine with new potatoes and green beans. I put the new potatoes in a roasting tin with olive oil, rock salt and a sprinkle of turmeric to add extra flavour and colour. Pop in oven for about 30 mins. When everything was nearly ready I steamed the green beans. This dish is naughty but it’s incredibly tasty.
Now here’s the bit you’ve all been waiting for. The Lulu Guinness competition!! Ahead of next weeks Today’s Special Value I am so happy to be giving away this beautiful Cesca Large Tote Bag, worth approximately £368, which is one of the fabulous designs available on Tuesday 13th.
There will be five gorgeous choices including Kooky Cat which is the one you could win. The other choices will be Navy, Peony Pink, Porcelain and Cameo Girl. It’s crafted from full grain leather and features a detachable strap, an internal zip pocket, and a mobile phone holder and it’s currently only available here at QVC.
To be in with a chance of winning all you have to do is answer this question in the comments:
What character did Tilda go to World Book Day as?
The competition will close on Sunday 11th March at 11:59pm and a winner will be randomly selected on Monday 12th. Check out the Terms & Conditions online.
Good luck everyone!
