Smooth operator

Well, I did it! Week one of Christianne Wolff’s The Body Rescue Plan detox was completed on Tuesday, and I must say week two is much easier, as you are allowed a few extras in small amounts such as oil to cook with carbs and bananas. I have been very pleased with my Nutri Ninja purchase which has enabled me to make some delicious breakfast smoothies, with one or two notable exceptions!

My favourite so far was fresh mango, strawberry and pineapple with plenty of hidden greens. This morning we had strawberry and pineapple with fresh baby spinach, frozen banana and frozen berries… verdict?… Pretty good.

You might be wondering why I didn’t call the blog ‘smoothie’ operator, which would have been just as appropriate. The reason is that, since purchasing the Lulu Guinness Today’s Special Value before Christmas, we have the radio on over breakfast every morning and listen to Smooth radio.

It’s really great to hear some of the old songs that bring back so many memories. Some remind me of when I was a club DJ in the West End of London, about forty years ago, and others of the fitness classes I used to teach throughout most of the 1980s. They do play modern songs too, but only the melodic ones.

Back to the detox, and is it working?

Well, some of the benefits are meant to be improvements to your skin and hair but, as I already have a pretty decent diet (apart from a few naughty treats), I probably won’t notice much difference. Just as an aside, do remember it is the Elemis Today’s Special Value this Sunday (which unfortunately I will be missing as I am off after today until 2nd March, except from popping in on Tuesday to record some pieces for QVC’s other channels with Simon Wilson).

I am also missing the Butler & Wilson shows this weekend which is a shame, I could have done with a bit of sparkle. I particularly like the look of this owl brooch and these star earrings.

Anyway, back to the detox again. My main reason for doing it was to kick-start a bit of weight loss and, although I’m not one to hop on the scales every two minutes, I can report I dropped three pounds in the first week and my stomach feels flatter and less bloated, so I’m pleased with that. I’m only aiming to lose just over a stone as, at my age – and to quote French ladies: ‘You have to concentrate on your face or your behind’, and I think my face is definitely more important in the business I’m in.

Well, it’s Valentine’s Day on Tuesday and, apart from my TV date with Simon Wilson, it will be pretty low-key as Chris is working. It will also be the last day of our detox, so no heart-shaped chocolate cake for us this year!

I keep saying ‘we’ regarding the detox. Although Chris has stuck to the food plan with me (which has been a huge support) and has also kept off the red wine (purgatory for him) he did confess to making himself a cup of coffee after I leave for work each day!

No chocolates for us then, but you still have a chance to win a box of luxury chocolates if you sign up to the newsletter on my website before midnight on Sunday – somebody has to win them and they will be posted out Monday so should hopefully arrive in time to enjoy as a Valentine’s treat.nToday, as well as Fashion on Friday at 5pm with Yong Kim followed by Aurora at 6pm with Dominic (aka he of the rich voice), I shall be presenting at 7pm to cover for sickness – get well soon Chloe.

I don’t mind a bit as it’s Becca, the brand of the Today’s Special Value today – although, judging by the amount of stock that has already gone as I write this, I’m not sure if it will be in my hour. If you haven’t tried Becca yet, it is my favoured range for illuminating the skin.

I hope you all have a good weekend and keep warm if the promised sub-zero temperatures hit us,
Much love,

Well done Julia with the detox, can’t wait to see how you continue to do. Incidentally was watching qvc when my son was home from uni. He said he thought you was about 45 and refused to believe you are 60. God knows how young you will look after the dtox but get me that book! You look great and I am also tempted by the Philip Kingsley elastiiser you recommend as my dry frizzy curly menopausal hair is driving me crazy! Well done once again.

      Hi Tanya,
I must admit I’m not really enjoying the detox but only one more day to go and my stomach is definitely flatter. Still not that much weight loss but then slow & steady is supposed to be better.
Do try the Elasticizer – hand on heart I couldn’t be without it and the litre size lasts AGES.
Please thank your son from me – what a massive compliment

Hi Julia, well done! On your detox, I was watching you both talking about the book. I’m thinking of joining too! Is the first two weeks detox just a liquid diet? Because I’m not sure about that! But if you’re seeing and feeling good maybe I shall just order the book! I have ordered the body blade and am looking forward to it’s arrival. Hope you have a well deserved break and keep going! Hi Julia
Well done you and your first week of the Body Rescue Plan, must say that I saw a big difference with your face and jawline and you look a lot brighter in yourself. Good Luck to all that is doing the Plan also and hope everyone gets great results.

Unfortunately my diet has taken a turn, lost another 2lbs, not because of that but I have just had braces fitted so eating is a real challenge, porridge, soups etc. I really appreciated your Chris being grumpy, I’m not allowed coffee or tea and the first day without was horrendous the worst thumping headache ever and a very sore mouth to boot, not a happy bunny, needs must I suppose.

You’ve also done well with your words considering everything else you’re doing.

    Hi Julia,
I must apologise about messing up my comments on your previous blog. I don’t know if you saw it? (I had a car crash a couple of weeks ago). Anyway I’m glad to say there have been no further mishaps and everything has been sorted.
We were down by Liberty Stadium this week and wondered if you’d been visiting Swansea lately? It has been quite chilly but they have said it is going to be milder this week, usually meaning rain!
I received my Pia Rossina Fedora hat a few days ago. I must say l am really pleased with it and can’t wait to wear it.
We’re out for lunch tomorrow. It’s our usual day for it so it’s not that we’re being romantic cause it’s Valentine’s Day. We still give card’s even though I say. I’m not going to bother anymore and I always buy a little something for hubby!
Well hope you are doing something nice tomorrow. There’s no rugby this weekend so I’m going to pay a visit to my friend who lives close by.
All the best, Tina S x
