I do hope you are well and managing to stay warm in this bitter cold?
Well, Christmas is a distant memory now and as I often say on air these winter months are not my favourite! I find my mood can often get very low in January, so with that in mind in this blog I wanted to bring some smiles and remind myself of all the good that life brings despite being in the darker months.
We have our make-up done at QVC now and one of my favourite artists is Rachael, she always cheers me up and we have such a giggle. She gave me a facemask to try out this week and this photo makes me laugh.
Talking of smiles I have also had some lovely quality time with friends so far this month. I had a belated Christmas pub lunch with my friend and shopping telly soprano, Justine Balmer.
And also celebrated my Hemi’s birthday, he was drinking vanilla milkshake and it went down the wrong way which he then proceeded to cough milkshake all over the place, it was so funny and this photo captured the fun so well:
As you may remember I have pledged to stay away from alcohol and sugar this month, its not easy but at almost halfway through the month I have not weakened yet. I am finding it difficult at times but also proud that I am sticking to it.
One thing I did do this week was make these vegan, sugar free brownies – they have really helped when I was craving my usual chocolate fix – Julia Roberts tried one yesterday and actually asked me for the recipe, always a good sign!
Now for the solutions and specially winter solutions; in this cold weather if you drive you may want to consider buying the Telescopic ice & snow scraper. I have found it so useful since new year, look at the windscreen of my little smart car – it was a solid sheet of ice which I removed in next to no time and without the mess of a de-icer.
Or you might prefer to do no scraping or clearing at all and use the Delk Frostguard cover that you can see here on my boss Mike’s car, you will notice how all the frost is on the cover so once removed it leaves a frost, snow and condensation free windscreen so that you can safely drive off immediately!
And finally, if like me you find these darker months hard be sure to have little bits around the home that keep your spirits up; even simple things like these gorgeous Alison Cork candle holders with a couple of Yankee Candle Olive & Thyme votives in clear holders have put a smile on my face when I have been at home.
Before I go, did you know this weekend is QVC Beauty weekend? I recorded some preview shows that are going out on the QVC Beauty Channel this week. One thing I was super excited about and so will you if you are a fan of Australian Bodycare is a new formulation of their much loved tea tree skin wash – this one contains lavender too! I have been using it as shower gel, in the bath and as a hand wash and it is beautiful, I find lavender so refreshing and calming so for me this formulation is such a great idea. I am hoping Annette may extend this formula to their body line too!
And if you would like to watch the preview shows, here are the times they are on this week. Enjoy!
17th January: 12 noon, 11pm
18th January: 10am, 10pm
19th January: 12 noon, 10pm
20th January: 10am, 6pm
So, that’s it from me this week, do please feel free to leave a comment below and let me know what your January survival strategies are!
Big big hugs
