Smile… it’s a long weekend

It’s August Bank Holiday weekend and I’m smiling because I’m not working, although it does mean I am missing some fantastic bargains on QVC – more of that later.

Firstly, I want to reflect on the fabulous 22nd anniversary shows for Butler & Wilson last weekend. I think Simon really excelled himself with the beautiful set dressing and wonderful outfits for our models.

He was on great form too – it made me realise just how much I had missed working with him. I wonder if you treated yourself to any sparkles?

Once his anniversary shows were over, he was able to relax and enjoy his birthday on Wednesday. I won’t mention his age, but he is looking amazing for it! As is ‘im indoors! It is Chris’s 63rd birthday next Wednesday and – although I don’t often put pictures of him on my blog at his request – I particularly like this one taken on holiday.

I think staying active helps to keep you looking and Chris has certainly been that of late. The building work in the loft is still ongoing, but I’m delighted that the new ‘little’ loo is now plumbed in and ready to go (excuse the pun!). I’ll put some pictures on here once it’s all finished. This week I have ordered the carpet in a lovely shale grey colour, which I think will complement the pale grey walls beautifully.

We have had to move most things out of the loft so that we could decorate and most of it is in the spare bedroom.

This presents a slight problem as Chris’s sister, Linda, is over from Australia at the moment and staying with us for a couple of days from Sunday, before flying home on Tuesday. I’m not quite sure where we are going to put her!

So, unfortunately, my tummy is still not quite right. I went to the doctors on Monday, but he just said I was doing all the right things and it would ‘run’ its course. The BRAT (banana, plain boiled rice, toast) diet has helped a bit and of course loads of water. There aren’t many nutrients there, which is why I’ve been feeling a bit lethargic. So, I took a couple of days off work to rest, but came back yesterday as a lot of presenters are currently on holiday and I feel guilty that the others were having to cover extra hours.

I’m anxiously awaiting Jilly Halliday’s return from holiday. She took ‘Alice in Theatreland’ and, as she was also a former professional dancer, I’m keen to hear her opinion. Caroline, from Liz Earle, is also reading ‘Alice’ on her hols, as did my niece Becky – I wonder if the San Miguel improved her enjoyment.

I follow quite a few writers on Twitter (@JuliaRobertsTV) and Instagram (@juliagroberts). Heidi Swain is one of them, and prompted me to go in search of kitten pictures of Wilfie, as she had posted some of her black cat, Storm.

It’s amazing to think this little bundle of fluff could become such a majestic adult. Eilidh Nairn, who presents on our additional QVC channels, is totally besotted with him.

So I’m off this weekend, but QVC has an amazing line-up of goodies not to be missed. As well as the brilliant offers on-air, there are some web-only deals which are all available in interest-free Easy Payment.

In terms of the Bank Holiday Today’s Special Values, we’ve got a seven-piece Mally collection on Saturday, a living wall screen from Garden Reflections on Sunday (the ivy ones were amazing earlier in the year, I bought five!), and a Luxform security light on Monday.

Fashion on Friday today is H by Halston and, for a further fashion fix, check out next week’s Look of the Week below:

Have a fabulous long weekend (the weathermen are promising sunshine) and do remember to vote in the QVC Beauty Excellence Awards – voting ends tonight at midnight.
Much love,
Julia xx

    Hi Julia
I hope you’re feeling better soon. Missed you on air recently, but love your interesting blogs. The B&W shows were so entertaining, had to order a couple of gifts to self… hehe.
How cute does Wilfie look as a kitten? Amazing how his eyes have changed to that stunning green. I got my cat Ruby as a rescue cat when she was 4, so unfortunately didn’t have that kitten time.
Chris doesnt look anything like his age! I’m just finishing reading a big bag of Maeve Binchy books I was given, then I intend to start on yours, can’t wait!
    Love Linda x

      Hi Lindy Lou
Just laughing at you feeling compelled to treat yourself to some Butler & Wilson ?
Wilfie was totally adorable – he was only five weeks when we got him (he was a rescue kitten) and sooooo tiny!
Let me know what you think of my books once you start reading
      Julia x
