Hello everyone and happy August!
I hope you’re all enjoying summer or, if you are like me and it isn’t your best season, then I hope you are managing to stay cool! I was quite pleased to spend a large portion of the day in an air-conditioned car when we had that record breaking heat the other week. Lawrence and I headed up to Yorkshire with two of our best friends who I met when I studied at drama school with them. We couldn’t believe it getting out of the car after three hours – it was like we had driven to Spain!
We’d gone up north to celebrate Jo’s birthday for a long weekend and we had a fab time. We made last minute plans to go to an evening meeting at York Racecourse and we had really good fun. It started out being rainy so we had our picnic in the car with Jo and I sat in the boot and George and Lawrence hiding under brollies, but we still enjoyed it. It then cleared up in time for the racing and we even all won a bit of cash too which was amazing! (I did lose on every single race except the last one but it made up for it!)
We also visited Whitby to see the ruined abbey and, of course, York itself. I’d love to go back and actually stay in the city for a couple of days as it is absolutely beautiful. We had a wander round the minster of course, which was simply stunning.
Something not so fun at the moment is my skin: it has been really tricky and I keep having bad breakouts, which is very annoying. I thought I’d share a couple of things that have really helped balance it back out a bit because I am getting there now! I have to credit Ali Young for helping me out – she is so full of wonderful advice when it comes to skincare and have given me some really useful tips. I wanted to share in case any of your, or your family, have the same issue or you are looking for some kind, sensitive skin-friendly skincare that still really works.
Now I know I’ll be preaching to the converted for a lot of you here, but Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish has been a real saviour for me. It is getting all of my make-up off, even after a long day at QVC and the cloth helps my skin look more glowing. I’ve actually had a few compliments saying I look more glowing so that’s nice! I then follow it with their skin tonic too to help keep things balanced. If I have a lot of eye make-up on I tend to start with a bit of Floracil from Gatineau to remove it before my Cleanse and Polish. The latter would get it off, but I like the cooling nature of Floracil after a long day in make-up!
The next step has also been a revelation to me. I’m a bit scared of moisturiser – strange, I know, but whenever I’ve tried anything in the past I tend to get spotty. I had a good discussion with Ali Young about this before and started using a Hyaluronic Serum from Tarte as a light moisturiser as she explained that using a cream straight away would probably be too much because my skin isn’t used to it. After having a chat with her about my current bout of bad skin, she recommended Prolagene Gel from Decleor because it will moisturise my skin and but also help with the redness I was getting around my spots – they were really sore and angry, you see! Well, I can tell you that this would probably be my desert island beauty product now – I LOVE it! And it did exactly what Ali said it would (of course) and has really calmed down the red appearance of my spots. Also I keep getting heat rash on my chest from all these warm nights and it is helping that too.
This actually leads me on nicely to a quick look at a Decleor Today’s Special Value for this Sunday, 11th August. That’s because it includes a supersize of this exact Prolagene Gel I’ve been using. You also get a Lavender Fine Light Day Cream, Lavender Fine Plum Eye Cream, award-winning Lavender Fine Night Balm and a brand new Lavender Fine Bath & Shower Gel. If you can, head to Will Gowing’s Instagram, as he has recorded a fab IGTV with Fiona Brackenby from Decleor where she talks through each of the products and will give you more ideas on how to use the Prolagene if you have different skin to me.
Something else exciting that is coming up beauty-wise is from SBC. They have a Today’s Special Value coming up too on Saturday 17th August. It is supersize heave too. The are bringing us a four-piece Collagen Skincare Collection. The collagen range is one of their most popular so I know a lot of you will have been waiting for this one. I LOVE SBC and the minute I got this home, the Bath and Shower Crème was straight in my bathroom! The smell is DIVINE and it really looks after your skin. You will also be getting a supersize of the skincare gel which is lovely for this time of year as it is a moisturiser that can be used over your entire body, meaning you can still be beautifully moisturised without using heavier creams which, when its hot, you might not feel like doing and we all know that we can do with more moisture when the hot weather strikes! You also get the Collagen Hydra-Gel Serum and a new Hydra-Collagen Intensive Moisturiser. This will be the perfect set if your skin is in need of some real hydration.
So, a pretty great couple of weeks for skincare overall but, if fashion is more your thing, then make sure you are checking out the new autumn fashion ranges that are appearing online and on-screen from now on. Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Big Deals, which are from Radley, Bareminerals, Peony and Footlogix – some really great products with even better prices!
Thanks for reading and let me know your skincare favourites. Obviously the beauty awards voting is open right now, so perhaps your faves will win an award. Make sure you vote for them if their nominated.
As always, you can get in touch with my on Facebook, Twitter (@kathryngoldsmit) or Instagram (@Kathryn_Goldsmith) – I’d love to hear from you.
Have a great week,
