Scruffy dogs and delicious crumbles

Well, if you know me you’ll know just how much I love wildlife, animals, pets and especially my Cairn Terriers!

They’re adorable, mischievous, stubborn and totally out of this world! We love them!

However, now and then they do get into scrapes by rolling in something they shouldn’t when out for a walk (I’ll say no more!) or diving head first into a bush to discover a big muddy puddle to greet them when they exit!

Being small dogs their little legs don’t elevate them too well above the dirt so they collect quite a bit in their travels.

Their coats ‘self clean’ very well but occasionally they do end up needing a quick shower – especially after a rolling incident (like I said – I’ll say no more!)

This was one such occasion and I couldn’t resist sharing some of the photos with you. We even managed to catch a video clip too. Excuse the noisy hair dryer! That was Bramble being dried outside the bathroom on the landing!

If you have any pet-photos do share them if you get the chance. I’d love to see them. I’m on twitter @mecharliebrook.

My Dad has been receiving lots of well-earned TLC recently. He has undergone the first of a much-needed double hip operation. It went really well and recovery is steady. The second is a few months away.

It does mean he’s spending less time in the kitchen though. You may have heard me mention on-air, during a food show, his truly legendary crumbles. Dad is fortunate to have a lot of home grown produce from apples to rhubarb so his crumbles taste out of this world. So tasty. Dad is struggling a little to get about so I’ve just ordered the 8 piece summer crumble selection for him from the Real Pie Company. Utterly delicious and highly recommended. They’ve had fabulous reviews too. I love them all but the Apple and Blueberry is one of my favourites!

Real Pie crumbles

I’m now thinking perhaps I should order some for me too!

Take care and see you soon,

Hi Charlie – good to hear from you. The photos and video of your lovely cairns made me laugh out loud! I miss not having a dog – maybe again when I retire – busy with family and especially new granddaughter at the moment! My best wishes to your dad, he will be a new man with new hips. Hope to see you back soon on QVC. Take care to all.

Love your dogs, they are adorable, it is the dog and not the breed, at one stage I had 4 shelties, they came in after a long walk like the three bears, and the fourth Merlin you had a job to see what colour he actually was, the funniest I ever saw with them was when he ran through a puddle and it was one of those you disappear in, I still miss them but I have a heart full of beautiful memories. Hope your dad gets well soon, I am much younger than your dad, I think, I broke my hip last February and had to have a new one like you do, and one year on I am as mobile as I was before my fall. He will get back to where he was and better and the best bit no more pain, wishing you all well, thanks for the vt of your dogs brought back happy memories.

I have four dogs one is a little terrier cross and like yours his little legs don’t get him over the mud and puddles. I could highly recommend Dog Robes which are a towelling dog coat and are brilliant for drying and cleaning mucky dogs. They are an Aberdeenshire company and they have been a lifesaver in the recent wet muddy weather. I recently bought a new car so I needed something that would work to prevent it turning into a mud bath. Give them a look it might a reduction in doggy baths!!!

    Hi Bev!

Congratulations on your grand daughter! It sounds like you’re in the midst of very busy times. Having two dogs is a bit like having two toddlers – permanently!

    All the best

    Hello Sue.

Thank you for you very kind words which I will certainly pass on to dad. He certainly is feeling less pain which is a very positive sign.

Thank you for sharing your memories too which really made me smile.

Hi Fiona, thanks for your message.

A towelling dog coat counts brilliant! I’ll mention it to our buyers here too.

    I’ll get looking.

    Many thanks
